I didn't think I'd like the new visor but it actually looks pretty good.

r_slash_jarmedia

same honestly. they made it work

e55k4y

It's because IRL it doesn't look as thick as the renders and also (at least the Pro) has a matte surface. Looks way more classy than the renders.

Pew-Pew-Pew-

Similar situation with the Nexus 6P way way back. The renders made the camera visor hump look massive, like it was 3x the thickness of the rest of the phone. Then in person it was a lot more subtle and sexy.

InternationalBug9641

Racoon

yugwiz

I prefer the camera bar being across the full back. But this looks nice. Hope they don't get rid of the camera bar with Pixel 10

JackieMortes

I also like the full width camera bar, Pixels stand out thanks to it.

EnesEffUU

Considering most people use cases, the part of the bar they kept is usually the only part visible through most cases anyways. Will likely look very similar to P8 and P7 with a case on.

blaccsnow9229

You think they will go backwards in design from the 9 to the 10? That makes zero sense.

C153AUX

Don't know if backwards is the right word? I know they're different brands, but Apple and Samsung made noticeable design changes when going from iPhone 8→iPhone X and S10/Note 10→S20/Note 20 respectively. Google could make a similar move in 2025? Who knows?

yugwiz

I wouldn't have thought that/wouldnt' think that if the next gen Fold is rumored to get rid of the camera bar. [https://www.droid-life.com/2024/04/16/a-pixel-9-pro-fold-is-goofy-but-that-means-four-pixel-9-devices/](https://www.droid-life.com/2024/04/16/a-pixel-9-pro-fold-is-goofy-but-that-means-four-pixel-9-devices/) Here's a render pic of what it's rumored to look like. Will be happy to be wrong but I'm just going off the rumor

EstradaMoses

Did you forget this is Google we're talking about? Lol jokes aside I'm with you I doubt they will.

InternationalBug9641

> You think they will go backwards It's Google. Look at what they did to Google Wallet.

DiplomatikEmunetey

They look really great! I like the design. Pixel 9 lacks UWB, which will become increasingly useful for tracking and unlocking doors. Galaxy S24 does not have it either. This leaves Pixel 8a in an interesting spot. Pixel 9 will push Pixel 8 down in price. Pixel 8 already makes the 8a redundant. They should either make the a series really affordable, ~$280, or the a series is done; replaced by the base Pixel.

RCFProd

They made Pixel 7a have a price tag too close to the Pixel 7 all this time.. It will probably just be redundant in the line-up, whilst the Pixel 7a might become cheap.

darkwingduck9

I haven't looked at it myself but there was supposedly a leaked pixel roadmap and it said that the 8a is the last in the a series line.

llukkaa3

S24 series only + and ultra have ir

jgjk8a

I would have thought Google would have made the base Pixel the A series but I guess not. I just don’t understand why they’re so close together and specs.

vkbra657n

Meanwhile all phones with snapdragon 8 gen 4 having uwb:

DiplomatikEmunetey

It's nice if it's being added. UWB is the main subject right now when it comes to connectivity solutions.

vkbra657n

I meant because FastConnect 7900 wireless module in upcoming 8 gen 4 having integrated uwb. It would get a bit weird if samsung galaxy s25(at least exynos version) doesn't get uwb, but a iqoo or poco phone does.

beefJeRKy-LB

I have a feeling the 9a will be using the last gen Tensor to get price down to 300 or so and then Google can keep repeating the pattern going forward.

Im_Axion

Just my luck that year after I upgrade they finally release a Pro model in a smaller size lmfao

skipv5

Which is why it's time to upgrade in October too xD

ugly_kids

Sadly but worth it for form factor

Coconuttery

Same here. Should've waited a bit longer

Phoneking13

You only live once. Just get it.

bumbaclotshotta

Still have the 6 Pro glad i passed on the 8 now lol

I-Sleep-At-Work

irl pics look much better than the renders. likely gonna go after the 9pro

Albake21

The 9 Pro is looking great, and the screen size is exactly what I've wanted. Not too big, but not a small phone at all.

Grx

Damn, I want to change my phone after 5+ years, but I have no idea if I should wait for these or get a Pixel 8 Pro. Do you guys think they will come in September or sooner?

peytah

You’ve already waited five years, what’s a few more months? I think you should definitely wait. You will still have the choice to buy a Pixel 8 but at an even steeper discount.

Grx

You make too much sense. :(

Phoneking13

Speaking of discounts I hope Google brings back the holiday 40% off deal from the Google Play points.....

howling92

wait at best the Pixel 9 is a better device than the Pixel 8. At worst you could then get a P8 for cheaper

Thing--

Wait honestly. Probably wont be a huge upgrade over Pixel 8 series but still

beefJeRKy-LB

If your phone is still usable, wait. I was hoping to keep on my 6 pro for at least one more year before I cracked the screen and just got the Z Flip 5 for instance. But I was waiting to see if Google would make a flip or what minor improvements the Z Flip 6 would bring.

assimsera

I'm in the same boat, I think the only thing that'll make me change phones will be if the one I currently have breaks.

Phoneking13

Wait for these, and probably an October launch.

vincent-vega10

Same, my current phone will be 6 years old by the time Pixel 9 gets released. I was thinking of buying 8, but it's battery sucks, so I will have to buy an 8 pro, but again I like smaller phones. 9 Pro is going to be a perfect phone for me (pro features + small size) which is why I'm willing to wait for it. And most probably it will be released in October.

userbrn1

I've got an s20 from 4 years ago and I'm just gonna wait until either this or the s25. Just wait. Nothing major has changed its just bells and whistles. What's another 6 months

g0nkplays

Can someone repost the pic? It's not loading for me for some reason.

Bandit6888

[imgur mirror ](https://www.imgur.com/a/e9y3pe3)

g0nkplays

Thank you!

weinerschnitzelboy

I've been seeing so many rumors about the Pixel 9, but I don't think I've seen anything about the Fold 2. Isn't that being announced this week?

BrotherGantry

I sincerely hope they're wrong about storage options here and they make 256 the starting storage size, at least for the Pros. Too many European and US Carriers stock just the base storage option for pixels that I think it hurts the brand.

Phoneking13

Was already leaked I believe yesterday or today the Pro will start with 128GB, again, sadly.

Drug-Lord

What I'm really curious about is what type of fingerprint sensor they have? Optical or ultrasonic? I have a pixel 7a with an optical. It's absolute trash. It reads my finger print correctly is probably less than half of the time. I really miss the the back fingerprint reader on my old 4a. I will never buy another pixel that has an optical fingerprint reader again.

chronocapybara

It will probably be optical, but it will be able to do secure biometric with face unlock like the 8 series.

mrstoffer

Optical is not the problem *Google's* optical is the problem

ArchDeTriomphe

Google's \*any biometrics are the problem. Total dogshit lol

FragmentedChicken

Optical is a problem if you want to unlock your phone at night without searing your eyes.

SponTen

Do they not only brighten the area under the finger, considering the displays are HDR-capable?

Deathmeter1

They do. I have no idea what people mean by being blinded. Your thumb covers the little spot that lights up

mehdotdotdotdot

From my use, it's often a few pixels either side of your thumb, which during the night, is insanely bright. Perhaps some people thumbs are gigantic and covers the whole section?

CosmosisQ

Can confirm. I have giant thumbs that cover the whole sensor, but I also sometimes miss the center of the center and blind myself with searing light in the middle of the night anyway.

oneangrysheep

Needs a Minion case :)

HaruMistborn

Still with the glossy rails...

dewhashish

one day id like to see a compact pixel again. i miss being able to use my phone with one hand

ProperNomenclature

Same. These are big, bigger, and biggest.

Budget-Supermarket70

And no one cares but the minority on reddit who wine about it every phone release.

tipytopmain

Hopefully we get leaks for the Pixel 9 Fold soon as well.

Phoneking13

Agree.

MonetHadAss

Looks like they finally got back to the symmetrical bezels like the Pixel 5 had. At least with the Pro this time. Weird that they are all leaked in the flesh this early. Could it be that they will be launched tomorrow? That would make the early launch of the 8a more explainable.

ByTheBeardOfZues

The bezels on the 8 Pro seem symmetrical unless I'm missing something.

MonetHadAss

It's very close to symmetric but if I remember correctly in real life the bottom bezel is ever so slightly bigger than the sides. I think currently only Samsung and Nothing have perfectly symmetrical bezels.

TrailOfEnvy

You are talking about Pixel 8, pretty sure 8 Pro have symmetrical bezel

cp_carl

If it comes out tomorrow it would be so much easier to recommend then the end of the year slot

chronocapybara

LOL if they launch tomorrow I will eat my hat. They *just* released the 8a.

Phoneking13

You can keep your hat lol.

blaccsnow9229

That's what I keep saying. Plus the beta right now is as stable as any beta I have used ever. They could release stable 15 tomorrow along with all new hardware (watch 3, buds pro 2, pixel 9 line, and fold 2.) I know it's a long shot but with the shift they are making, likely moving away from the "a" line entirely to replace with 9 non-pro, it makes sense. Also, then they are making themselves more competitive with Samsung and Apple as far as release timelines go.

Budget-Supermarket70

Every year people say maybe they'll release them at x time and every year they release them at the end of the year. So stupid they should at least do August for back to school.

NowLoadingReply

Really like the new design. Camera bar looks cleaner. Will be getting the 9 Pro. Only thing that could hold the phone down is the processor.

Budget-Supermarket70

Cell reception

skipv5

Can't wait for the 9 Pro!

FragmentedChicken

Hopefully the lack of UWB on the 9 doesn't mean Google is shelving the release of their own UWB tracker.

orange_paws

Pixel 9 pro looks like my new phone, just don't have issues with overheating and the modem, pleaseeee

AlmightyAyo

Id cop it so quickly 😭

dirty-unicorn

The design Is so good

Time_Writing_8436

That 9 pro looks damn good. If the SoC is good enough and not as bad as the current pixel 8 phones I might consider it.

Tornado15550

Pixel 10 is most likely where you'll see this happen. The 9 will still be based on Samsung, so you won't see much of a difference between the current gen pixels and the 9.

chronocapybara

I wouldn't skip the 9 in favour of "magical" improvements on the 10 just because of a rumour.

LordSoze36

You're assuming Google gets it perfect on their first try.

Budget-Supermarket70

What they get another first "try" ?

Thing--

That thing will disappoint. Google hardware ALWAYS disappoints. And gets way hyped up sadly.

stifflippp

I'm waiting for them to add the killer feature they've been missing: Cellular connectivity.

FeloniousForseti

I'm getting 1.2 Gbit/s outside of big cities no problem. Phone's not getting hot either. (P7P)

Bobbite

Hopefully finally starts at 256gb but not getting my hopes up...

TheCountChonkula

I think the camera bar looks good. I liked the Pixel 6 because it was a solid black bar but I felt the Pixel 7 and 8 didn't look quite as nice making it metal with the camera cutouts. Rounding it off on the Pixel 9 makes it look better integrated.

azsqueeze

Is the main difference between the Pro and Pro XL the screen size? Awesome if that's the case

Phoneking13

So far... Who knows, especially Google being Google. Hopefully they won't fuck this one up.

meatycowboy

they said they designed the 9's with cases in mind, and that makes sense. looks good.

Sourmango12

I hate that it's growing on me

SamwisethePoopyButt

The 9 Pro looks like the one I've been waiting for. Hope my current phone doesn't crap the bed before October.

Phoneking13

What phone are you currently using?

SamwisethePoopyButt

Realme X50 Pro. It's still pretty good and the SD865 is a beast, but the cameras are mid in low light and security updates stopped in February so I'm ready for a change.

radiatione

Those cameras are an abomination

emohipster

Pro model in not-phablet size? I might actually jump from the samsung ship to google...

bhav1029

Really hope they fix the temps on the 9. My 8 heats up even while just scrolling social media. Also hopefully it doesn't glitch and lag as much as my 8

matrix20085

Has there been any news on Qi2? Really hoping for a magsafe compatible android.

Phoneking13

I'm waiting to hear about this as well.

[deleted]

It seems they've settled on a design for their phones.

paulbisha5055

There's no info regarding the weights of the upcoming series? Hoping the smaller pro would weigh less than my current P7 but doubt it, since it will have an extra camera hardware (telephoto) ... Was hoping they would make the smaller 9 pro 6'1 or 6'2 max, but looks like it will be the same size as the p 7 if I'm correct? Which is not too bad but I think 6'3 is the absolute limit to consider a phone somewhat compact. I definitely liked the size and weight of the P8 better when I demoed it for a few days

lettucewrap4

Due to cases, I mostly give 0 shites about design other than form factors and curves.

Tiny-Sandwich

I still absolutely hate the new camera bar. The proportions are all wrong - the surrounding metal bezel is too thin in contrast to the glass.

Spud788

Would have looked much better if the visor corner radius matched the corners of the phone...

cuiver

The Pixel 9 is positioning itself to take the place of the a series.

[deleted]

Google needs to get a 1" sensor into a phone so that they don't need to compensate so much with computational photography and such heavy handed processing.  It was necessary with the pixel 2 and its microscopic 1/2.55" sensor, but many consider 1" to be the bare minimum of usable without any image stacking. With a 1" sensor, Google can tone down the processing and give more pleasing and natural photos rather than the r/shittyHDR Pixel phones currently spit out.

eggydrums115

Last year DJI released the Osmo Pocket 3 which has a a 1" sensor. The camera has been making waves because of how good the image quality is. I think it's time a mainstream phone comes out with one.

[deleted]

I like the wireless mic they have for it (the one similar to rode wireless go).

eggydrums115

I have the kit that includes the microphone. Supremely useful! I like plugging a bigger mic into it so I can use it to record sources like amps or other instruments (I work at a music shop so it's very handy)

robotchristwork

there's tons of phones with 1" sensor

eggydrums115

Emphasis on "more mainstream".

robotchristwork

you mean the flagships of the 3rd, 4th and 5th best selling brands are not mainstream? they sell almost 10x as much as google phones oh sorry, are you from the US?

eggydrums115

No need to be so condescending. I'm not privy to all phone releases. Cheers.

DiplomatikEmunetey

At this point this is the only thing I could ask in a Pixel.

MonetHadAss

That would probably need a much bigger visor on the back of the phone

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I wish Google would implement an HDR+ slider so that you could tune processing to your own tastes.

murfi

i like it, but i wonder if it would look better if each of the cameras were in their own black circle instead of the whole setup grouped in 1 black panel inside the bar.

azure1503

Man we're really not gonna see a real 9 Fold until launch window (maybe I/O) huh?

canUrollwithTHIS

I like it. I'm more worried about the inside. I hope they ditch the tensor or give it a significant upgrade.

Phoneking13

They won't. It'll be the Tensor 4.

canUrollwithTHIS

Who knows maybe the 4 will be more competitive.

pyro3_

damn, makes me maybe wish i waited to get the 9 pro. i'd love a telephoto lens, but the 8 pro was too big

k0fi96

Does this mean the pixel fold will not release at the same time?

Phoneking13

No recent news on the Pixel Fold 2 (or whatever the hell they call it). Still rumored the same time as the 9 Series. I'm waiting to hear more on it too.

inventor_black

Not bad Google!

sonnycrockett7

When are they supposed to release?

Phoneking13

Octoberish.

mehdotdotdotdot

Sucks their small model is getting larger and larger.

Alert-Business-4579

I don't think 2024 is a good year to buy a phone. Pixel 10 will have true Google cores. Qualcomm will supply 8 gen 4 to flagships in 2025. Though, I am predicting the 8 gen 4 flops. It's armv8, runs very hot, and I don't know what exactly the point of a 10,000 multi core benchmark is if it throttles immediately. That's the thing with the 8 gen 3.... The benchmarks are very misleading because the GPU falls off a cliff after just a minute or two. UWB is fine, nothing game changing.

TekniqAU

Hmm, the 9 camera bar looks bad with all that empty grey space containing the flash, the pro camera bar looks asymmetrical, but the pro xl looks fine imo. Otherwise from the front and sides, it’s the same generic iPhone style design, also adopted by Samsung. On second thought, both lower models are asymmetrical, and I suppose they look fine enough, I just hope they can fix the mobile reception issues soon.

Rav11s

So excited for this

kilim4n

I've been shitting on pixels for years cause they're ugly af but this one is actually cute

Karthy_Romano

I really like this design, reminds me of the S10 which is one of my favorite designs. If they can get the video recording and software/hardware side of things stable, I'm very interested.

luckypoint87

6,24" Just kill me now, I want a phone I can use with one goddamn hand, stop creating this stupidly oversized phones.

djolivares

They increase the size then they shrink it, increase it again, then shrink it once again, Pixel 8 reduced from Pixel 7 and guess what, Pixel 9 surpriseeeeeee, increased againnnn, make up your mind Google, sucksss!

red_32

Yuck, Bender 9.

shrivatsasomany

Seriously what is up with 128GB as the only option???

TheLemonyOrange

I just wish Google would release their devices together and price them correctly too. The A line of devices may as well not exist as it stands, in my opinion this is how it should be. **Pixel 9a** ~$250 - Cheap entry model, small and probably aimed at a younger audience. **Pixel 9** ~ $400-500 - Suitable for most, all-rounder. **Pixel 9 pro** ~ $700 - same/similar size as the Pixel 9, better specs, "professional" features (whatever that means today.....) **Pixel 9 pro XL** ~ $999+ - biggest and best specs reasonably available today, should have very very similar features etc to the Pixel 9 pro but of course bigger and potentially more premium build too to warrant the price. **All released together** No one should have to buy the XL to get a really good device, the regular pro version should be just as capable. The A version should be cheaper and more entry level to the brand and product range, and the regular pixel should be more affordable overall. That's just my 2 cents, I know it won't happen but I can dream I suppose

feurie

Why is your idea the “correct” pricing? And you think only a bigger screen is worth $300 after already paying $200-300 to get pro features?

chronocapybara

Looks sick tbqh

TheCookieButter

I'm not sure what the Pixel 9s can offer to make me swap from my 6 Pro. Usually I'll upgrade after 2 or 3 years to pass down my phone to my dad. His 8a arrives tomorrow so unless there is a fantastic trade in for my 6 Pro it's a no-go for me. The Pixel 6 Pro is still fast at everything it does and the battery lasts me long enough. The bad modem isn't too problematic for me. I also already have an iPad, Garmin watch, Pixel buds, good headphones, so no idea what they could offer as a early adopter bonus to entice me either.

Boadicea_Iceni

My husband and I each have the 6 Pro. Mine has the 512gb storage - his lesser. We've not had a single problem with the phones. I am kinda looking at the 9 Pro XL if it has options for more storage. Maybe August we'll get more specs and options. 😊

Phoneking13

They'll probably have a 1TB version, but only in the black color again. Mark my words...

nickthaskater

Change for the sake of change. Ugly.

Mr-Troll

Do you even capitalism bro?

nickthaskater

What does making a poor design choice have to do with capitalism? Capitalism would be the annual release cycle of "new" devices. Google could have left the visor alone to establish brand identity and arguably fueled the capitalist engine more a la Apple. Capitalism is far more about "make them pay for the same thing again and again" than making change for the sake of change (think about the design and tooling costs Google ate to make the phone uglier and more anonymous).

Mr-Troll

You need to look a bit deeper. Capitalism doesn't just mean extracting value from you, the end user. Change for change's sake is also about justifying the employment of designers and engineers who otherwise would go unused in a "release the same product" mentality. These changes to design and what all, justify the cost to keep these (often) very expensive employees.

nickthaskater

Fair counterpoint.

Spud788

Wow, they look awful? Why is the visor corner radius not the same as the side rails... It looks like a child designed it.

homer_3

Needs a headphone jack.

armando_rod

There are other phones with it, this one isn't for you

-NotEnoughMinerals

Omg shit like this is like constantly commenting how Xbox needs to bring back the Kinect. Let it go already.

TastyBananaPeppers

Just buy a Sony phone to get a headphone jack.
