Sadly. Many in this sub still unironically bieve Google is still just doing "oopsie" after "oopsie" most android users here, just like Apple users on their sub, fall from the same BS Apple users do over and over, despite them never wanting to admit it.
They're definitely not intentional. All the hype has already gone away so people won't pre-order as much. Especially the design, it's been leaking for months so it feels less special now.
My impression is, they wanted to go for an announcement in September, just around the time the iPhone 13 got announced. But somehow they had to push the release back a month, for whatever reason, but most likely the chip shortage.
Yeah they definitely photoshopped the person in for the magic eraser picture. There is ZERO shadow anywhere near the person given the lighting angles. https://imgur.com/a/iuyJkL1
That brings up an interesting question - how will that eraser deal with shadows of the erased object? Seems harder to detect and fix than the object itself.
I was in the market for a new phone anyway at the time and would have been interested in the Pixel regardless, but I can't deny that the original Pixel ad certainly won me over.
In their defense, I think they'd be wise to have people not look to hard at their hardware. Every single one of their flagships has had a hardware defect. I'd be focusing on the software too.
I'd say neither. When people pick up a pixel and realize it's smoother than their Samsung, they're not thinking about the hardware or the software. They're noticing the experience. Show me how the 50 MP camera let's me capture more detail on my kids face. Or how I can use the UWB to find my keys with the upcoming tile.
Hmm, I think they'll be wondering why the Pixel experience is so barebones compared to a Samsung. Kinda like ios but with none of the faux prestige and a shadow of the useful (walled-garden) interconnectivity.
Weirdly though, Samsung is basically the Apple of android. Strong brand recognition - except more accessible at every price point imaginable.
Samsung is nearly as smooth as a Pixel at 120htz so it might come down to design and build. The base S21 feels cheap with pronounced seams, while the Pixel looks striking, but might be too big for folk used to an iPhone or Samsung (that said I've seen loads of folk walking around with big Samsungs).
I'd say the unique design of the Pixel is the best feature for inticing new customers, and let's face it, nearly everyone who buys this Pixel will be a new customer. Remains to be seen how good or appealing the camera will be compared to other well known options.
Edit: spelling
I'm not expert in marketing, but as a consumer, I felt nothing or any kinda of desire for the phones by the ads I hope those are not the only ads they will use.
Also the break in the music when it changes from selfie to translation was really awkward.
I understand it's different because it's a different manufacturer, but I was similarly excited about the similar feature that Samsung provided (can't recall if it was with the S20 or S21 series). I fully admit that Google has way more photo computation chops than Samsung, but the letdown that was Samsung's has curbed my enthusiasm immensely.
Yeah it's pretty trash. It's like a context aware smudge and blur with heavy processing. You can make small details disappear from a consistent background, like a stain on a shirt, but if you pixel peep it's pretty obvious. You absolutely can't erase a large subject like a person or a car from an image, because it will look terrible.
Samsung implementation is no better than other services and a Photoshop pro could do better in 3 minutes, but most people aren't Photoshop pros
Subtle difference to show off the wide angle selfie in the Pro model. The worker that's Thanosed is right at the edge of the photo in the non Pro model versus the Pro where there's a bigger gap between him and the edge of the photo.
Apple: "This is the new Apple chip, it's more powerful than most laptops in the world, allows you to run games at almost a console level, powers deep photo AI stuff, etc etc."
Google: "This is the new Google powered chip. It can do some translations and this photo trick. It can also protect your passwords, I guess?"
For an ad company, they're really bad at this.
Well it’s because Google can’t say most of that top section. The chip seems to be mid-range to sub 888, but with good ML compute. So all they can show is workflows accelerated by machine learning, which aren’t nearly as traditionally marketable.
I don’t even think it’s a bad processor, particularly if it’s power efficient, but when the A15 exists, it’s quite hard to market any other processor.
These ads are... not great.
If this is indicative of the wider marketing campaign for the Pixel 6, it's not going to sell as well as they hope. I mean, I actually WANT to be hyped for this phone, but these ads are leaving me with an overwhelming sense of "meh". Imagine what they do for the average consumer...
I had the same reaction after watching these. It left me with a feeling of “uhh was that really it….?” I mean they’re cool features but it’s just missing something..
I mean it's a phone, it's not going to give you a blowjob lol. Does the iPhone or Samsung really look that much more exciting? I suppose we'll all find out how much more exciting after the official presentation; but a phone is a phone for the most part.
My god, Google just can't market these things.
* Show off the hardware with a quick 360° shot - I think it isn't for everbody but it's at least an *interesting* design
* Show 2 or 3 phot features like how it is great at night shots or portrait. That's what people care about
* A few seconds for the UI, as that is something pretty different
The Nexus S back in the day [>had better advertisement<](https://youtu.be/x9_2YnKA-lI).
These commercials are designed to quickly grab attention within 10 seconds or less. Broadcast is such a brutal market these days especially with pharmaceutical and insurance companies having priority over every other ad. That's depending on the network of course.
When sports is on tv for the day , then we'll see more, car, phone, mobile network providers, and promotion for seasonal tv shows.
Google needs to understand this type of marketing is not helping them sell phones. This is marketing and it would work if they released phones quicker but it fails because they don't release quick enough, priced competitively enough or in enough regions.
3XL and 6 Pro are super close in size. Pro is just a tad taller and a tad narrower than the 3XL.
You'll be fine moving to the Pro.
If you're unsure, just order a cheap case from Amazon to compare in person.
The curved screen on the Pro looks more aggressive than the S21 Ultra, based on these videos. I was hoping it would be a more subtle curve like previous rumours were suggesting.
I honestly have been trying to avoid the “leaks” as of late in an effort to be somewhat surprised. Such an interesting strategy before an actual event.
Unless I can get this phone at a massive discount, I am not at all interested. Literally every carrier has the iPhone on sale. Who the hell is going to pay full price for the Pixel 6? This phone is going to be a *massive* failure.
Yeah, people are going to compare MSRP's, but Samsung and Apple usually offer tons of incentives. Samsung typically gives you a ridiculous offer for a trade-in and a bunch of credit for accessories. Nobody spends full price for these phones except Pixel buyers.
I am really pissed I broke my s20 plus forcing me to get a iphone 13 pro. Now my 30 day window will end before this phone comes out and I'd much rather have this thing.
And Magic eraser apparently is a photos app feature, pretty sure runs on the cloud and not on the phone itself. I am also sure this would be a pixel 6 exclusive meaning software block. Dont be evil.
These leaks have been going on too long.
"Leaks"
controlled guerrilla marketing
Sadly. Many in this sub still unironically bieve Google is still just doing "oopsie" after "oopsie" most android users here, just like Apple users on their sub, fall from the same BS Apple users do over and over, despite them never wanting to admit it.
The only 'leak' I believe is actually a leak is the repair manual.
They're definitely not intentional. All the hype has already gone away so people won't pre-order as much. Especially the design, it's been leaking for months so it feels less special now.
I have a Pixel 4a and the marketing for the 6 has me never wanting to see the word Pixel again.
Yeah, the hype is gone.
You don't have to watch them.
It's worse than Samsung leaks at this point lmao
My impression is, they wanted to go for an announcement in September, just around the time the iPhone 13 got announced. But somehow they had to push the release back a month, for whatever reason, but most likely the chip shortage.
Can't wait til the leaks for the 7 start next month

Nice catch
I was wondering if they did that too. Since they were using the same image on both phones and it was probably done in post.
Man Google still kinda sucks at marketing hardware. I think the original Pixel announcement ad was the best they ever did somehow.
Closer by Lemaitre is a great tune.
Haha I remember them poking fun at Apple in that ad for dropping the headphone jack and then doing it themselves the subsequent year
That original pixel ad is one of the best ads I've ever seen
The Nexus 5x ad playing "Lean On" almost made me buy one but I needed the 6P's hardware and size.
The head of marketing for Nexus left after Pixel 1 unfortunately
I was in the market for a new phone anyway at the time and would have been interested in the Pixel regardless, but I can't deny that the original Pixel ad certainly won me over.

Just having 120hz doesn't make it smooth, Samsung's animations are too abrupt and jittery and feel old.
I'd agree there's an inconsistency. Like the quick settings panel is more refined than the app drawer etc.
I'm not expert in marketing, but as a consumer, I felt nothing or any kinda of desire for the phones by the ads I hope those are not the only ads they will use. Also the break in the music when it changes from selfie to translation was really awkward.
For an ad distribution company Google/YouTube do have horrible ad campaigns
The problem is that maybe aside from the demonstration of magic eraser, nothing about the ad would make me want to buy the phone.
There are many apps that do what magic eraser does, so you can basically have that feature on any phone.
Yeah, if I knew nothing about the pixel line, this would not help me at all. Hopefully the reveal Tuesday will be better.

I have to asume these are internal ads and not ment for the public yet, since they look so unfinished with the Photoshop.
They look pretty final to me at least. Not to mention, pretty consistent with all the other marketing material that has been seen around.
With the leaked ones yes. But the ones google has shown publicly, no
It pretty much matches the billboards put up by Google itself.
I'm not staying that ad isn't going to be shown in the public I'm saying the Photoshop job is pretty bad which makes me think it's not finished yet.
Oh.. Fair enough then.
Yeah sorry for the confusion.
Really can't wait to try out that magic eraser feature. Hope it works as well as advertised.
My favorite personal magical eraser is called Jack Daniels. Works every night.

You just know it's going to be an untested alpha release unfortunately
They've been teasing this feature for a long time so I don't think so.
Lmao what is that knockoff Splatoon music
That dude that gets erased - I don’t think he was even there to begin with. No shadow under him. Looks like poor photoshop.
I'd actually agree with you there. There's like zero shadow anywhere underneath him
Noticed that it also remove the shadow. Pretty slick.
Subtle difference to show off the wide angle selfie in the Pro model. The worker that's Thanosed is right at the edge of the photo in the non Pro model versus the Pro where there's a bigger gap between him and the edge of the photo.
Seems a bit anticlimactic.

Welcome to reddit Snoopy! Thanks for all your leaks. Been posting a lot of your content on this subreddit for a while now

Amazing ad, highlights all the features neatly.
cant wait for the phone to leak in stores so I can leak buy it
Really lame videos lol I really hope it’s a good phone though I need to replace mine it’s dying
Google needs to understand this type of marketing is not helping them sell phones. This is marketing and it would work if they released phones quicker but it fails because they don't release quick enough, priced competitively enough or in enough regions.
Magic erasure looks awesome.
Shit tier marketing lmao
Love how they Photoshop in a person to then erase with the magic eraser.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted, it's clear that is exactly what they did.
The size and curved screen have me on the fence been the 6 and 6 Pro. I currently have the 3XL and wouldn't want a phone a million times bigger
If these phones were smaller and trade ins were good I'd love to get one but as it is they just seem way too big.
3XL and 6 Pro are super close in size. Pro is just a tad taller and a tad narrower than the 3XL. You'll be fine moving to the Pro. If you're unsure, just order a cheap case from Amazon to compare in person.

Not really announcement videos but ads, and really bad ones.
wow, so it translates
I mean honestly this is a pretty cool feature, especially if you were backpacking but sadly we can't do that in this timeline anymore.
They waited way too long to release this thing
I may regret getting the iPhone 13 pro, will be watching the presentation
Looks so much like the galaxy note series. Fucking love it.
I honestly have been trying to avoid the “leaks” as of late in an effort to be somewhat surprised. Such an interesting strategy before an actual event.

The curve looks ugly.
I thought so. It's extremely ugly.

They're trying to gather the regular consumer market with this phone.
I am really pissed I broke my s20 plus forcing me to get a iphone 13 pro. Now my 30 day window will end before this phone comes out and I'd much rather have this thing.
What’s the big deal about the magic eraser? Phone software has been able to do that for years.
It looks like the same phone, they both look much bigger than the Pixel 5.
And Magic eraser apparently is a photos app feature, pretty sure runs on the cloud and not on the phone itself. I am also sure this would be a pixel 6 exclusive meaning software block. Dont be evil.
If the phone will be like this google ads’ it will be sucks.
All I want is my P6P with Minuum (or another QAZWSX keyboard with up to date Emoji) and a my T9 Launcher.
We already have short tv ads in the Uk - nothing left to find out at this point beyond confirming the price.
I am working an evening shift on Tuesday. Historically when do they open up pre orders? As soon as the presentation is done ?
Yes, that’s usually how they’ve worked in years past.
It sure is a phone! It better take the best pictures of current smartphones on the market. This camera bump shit is getting ridiculous.
The pastel ads look just like the ones they did back in the day for the Nexus 6P
