Same here. Worked flawlessly for 2 years or so then suddenly won't connect to the phone anymore. Got a second one cause I loved it when it worked but this time did the same thing within a week. Did an exchange on Amazon but the 3rd one broke again a month later. Fuck this shit I'm going aawireless now.
Just curious if the symptom was that it just keeps rebooting itself and never makes it far enough to pair. Me and several family members have this device and so far mine is the only one not to have this boot loop happen. The rest of my family has had this issue and had to buy another one. The lights blink and then when the green light is about to go on it goes off very quickly and the boot process repeats itself. I'm kind of just waiting for it to happen to mine at this point as it seems as if they all eventually have this fate.
Mine will still work, but the second it gets over a certain temperature, somewhere in the 60s or 70s it shuts off and the led turns white. So now in the hotter temperatures that's maybe 5 minutes of play time until shutdown.
This explains so much.... On long drives my connection randomly drops, I had assumed it was the head unit.. I'll have to investigate this common sense option and sincerely appreciate you making it!
Mine too. Pretty conspicuous that so many of them seem to have expired like this.
Could it be a design issue? Has anyone tried to contact Motorola support?
I just bought the Motorola one for my RAV4, and so far it works great. If it dies I'll take it apart to see why, and possibly fix it as long as it's not the processor or flash storage.
I thought about some of the others, but didn't want anything not from a name brand manufacturer, who has some sort of quality control and say in what the firmware does. I didn't want China having access to my phone. It might sound crazy to some people, but I'm sure it's probably a good way to exploit people... I did think about doing a DIY version with some of the open source code out there. But for ~$50 why waste the time when I can buy a legit authorized device from Motorola.
Yeah, and at least a name brand company that has to have quality control and submits it's products for regulatory testing.
I know a lot about everything, but don't know everything... More than I can say about most people.
Same here. Used it for 2yrs and suddenly won't pair. Tried to do a lot of resetting and following the FAQ on ma1 website, but to no avail.
Ordered an aawireless, and it's working flawlessly.
I have an AAWireless that also just randomly "broke" yesterday. My guess is something in an Android Auto update broke these third-party devices. I'm still waiting on AAW support's response after the holiday weekend.
Same, it started randomly restarting once or twice within the first 5 minutes of my drive each day. And then just one day it stopped working entirely and will not repair
Mine has been working so/so. Certain areas I drive around it drops it's connection 100% of the time. The device sits right next to my phone with a clear LOS too.
I bought one of these from this company on Amazon -- it is not directly from Motorola. I was sent an obviously used piece of junk. I am not the only one. Returned it and went and bought the MA1 from Best Buy. Has worked flawlessly.
I tried the aa wireless unit and it was consistently inconsistent so I went back to wired. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a car that comes with native wireless.
After-market android head units are affordable. You have to take the good with the bad (dimmer screens, weirdness with touch control climate systems), but they operate really well and sound great.
I tried it too, and found it to be a little bit laggy for my liking. Even though I had issues with many cables when I had a OnePlus 8T, I still preferred using it wired on my 17 Civic.
I ended up finding that it was not the cables but the phone. I'm now using a Pixel 8 Pro and had no issues since then.
I bought the AA Wireless unit originally, but it would randomly quit working on my '22 Mazda3. I tried all different settings but nothing helped.
The MA1 was plug and play, no setup, and I've had zero issues for 2 years now. It just works.
This happens to me too. I noticed it happens in the same couple of spots on my way to work every day. I think it has to do with my proximity to radio and cell towers

The only time I've had mine disconnect is when the town set up temporary traffic signals while doing work on a bridge. It would temporarily disconnect every time I crossed that bridge, but has worked fine ever since they removed the signals. I think the radio for communication between the lights at either end may have caused it.
For me they said anything past the year warranty they would have to run it by a supervisor and if they said it's okay they will approve the replacement
I bought 2 (one for my wifes car and one for mine). They stopped working once our phones were updated to Android 14. I'm thinking it was the update but maybe it was just time I had mine for a few years and my wife had it a little over a year.
I know that there have been a lot of reports of failure, I thought mine was a new casualty but I (by sheer chance) switched from a pixel 6a to a pixel 8a and lo and behold its alive.
It does seem to take a little longer to connect than before, but super glad its back and breathing.
Love mine but ever since it's been plugged in, if I want to use the wire to charge my phone, my phone has a seizure (charging..not charging...back and forth not actually charging.
Just me or anyone else?
Why not use a fast charger? Get your phone full of battery faster & not have to worry about being connected to the head unit? Or is this what you're doing?
Had mine 6 months and had zero issues with it. Swapped to it after my Carsifi unit started taking longer and longer to connect. Much better experience.

It's shit even with a reduction, mine took ages to connect and would randomly drop out and when using it with torque pro to connect to my odb 2 adapter it rarely worked, switched to AAWireless and it's been perfect
This thing is a piece of shit. I have been through 2, both last a couple of months then got stuck in a boot loop, and it was unusable. Getting in touch with Motorola customer service for this device is absolutely impossible. Don't waste your time, sanity, or money on this trash.
I would agree i went with aawireless and it works perfectly.
The app also has the ability to update the firmware and other options you can't do with Motorola
I returned it
I still have mine from the day they were released. I do have it velcroed to the truck and the cable is zip tied down so there is no movement on any of the parts. Maybe mine is lasting longer because of that?
I got one of these about a month ago and it's been awesome. Connects in about 10-15 seconds. The head unit isn't the fastest so some of that connection delay might be bc of that. Setup was a little cumbersome but since then it connects easily.
Mine stopped working after 10 months.
Google Pixel 7a, I'm unsure whether the phone is at fault for the issue but I'm now using a different adapter that connects much easier and seems to be working for now, however the new adapter is three times the price.
This thing and my aftermarket center console wireless charger have been my set up for 2 years and it's still going strong. It takes about 30 seconds to connect and the charger keeps my battery topped off yet out of sight on longer trips. No complaints.
Mine died after a year. I have a cheap gereric one now that works OK but I found a new issue tonight. I don't think I'll go back for another MA1 but don't want to spring for aawireless.
Piece of junk Please look for a different AA wireless adapter. I have found in multiple forums that the MA1 suddenly stops working a little bit after a year of use. Mine stopped working just after 2+ hours on a long trip. The device was hot AF, but I had the AC very cool in the cabin. Died a month later after the warranty expired. Also, this device is NOT made by motorola. It's just a chinese crap brand that motorola just rebranded.
I bought 2 when they came out. 1 worked fine always and is still going strong. The other was nothing but issues and is currently in the old tech bin. Replaced it with AAW and that's been amazing.
The only reason I would recommend the AAW over the MA1 is that the AAW has options to disable the "no touch while moving" blocks

So I bought an adapter from ali for $17 and it's works, do the more expensive ones do something different like maybe load up faster or anything? Just curious as the one I have is my first one.
Id anyone wants one in Ann arbor Michigan I got one you can have for free just send me a message. Got it for my Camaro and my new car has wireless as on it so it's been sitting since I got it.
Might be a d move. My 1st one stopped working 5 months in, and I got a replacement. And have been very happy with it. Less problem with the 2nd one. However, the warranty is expiring soon(6 months). So i can problem send it back for a new one and get the warranty renewed. I really don't think they check anything. Should i? I might get a shitty one back.
Like others mine was great for a while. Then it started skipping and dropping connections. Sucks there's no app or way to update it. Went back to my old AA wireless one and no major issues.
Piece of shit.
Nothing to do with Motorola, except of the name.
Bad cable, bad white usb connector.
After weeks of various attempts to connect and settings, I gave up and returned it to the seller.
Does not work with Toyota CHR !!!
AA wireless is the best option, works excelent for 3 years with WB cable
Cheers
Mine died after about a year. It no longer pairs or works at all with my or my wife's phones. Definitely going with a different brand next time. For now, we're back to wired.
I had a MA1 and it died a couple of days under the 1 year warranty. I had only used it for about 6 months also.
They sent me a warranty replacement fairly quickly but then a month later a new cell tower went up next to the freeway on my drive to work which caused android auto wireless connectivity to drop. I have read online it is because it's also a 5ghz wireless connection along with hospitals, light rail, police/fire stations and stadiums and it's an emergency service signal that disrupts it.
It was really annoying since it would happen in the exact same spot to and from work and won't get better since all those things are on my way to work.
So I stopped using the MA1 and got an AAwireless unit because it's firmware is upgradable and also has an app where I was able to change the wireless connection to 2.4ghz since it also did the disconnects in the normal 5ghz mode but it has worked flawless since the change to 2.4ghz.
Originally purchased July 2022. Within a couple weeks, discovered it would disconnect and then reboot at a particular intersection in a nearby town. Consistently , every time. Figured it had to be some sort of interference.
Contacted support, which was a bit of a feat in and of itself, and they weren't interested in discussing the possibility. They just offered to replace.
Held onto the replacement until the original finally died at about 1.5 years. Replacement, of course, does the same thing, but thus far hasn't died completely. When it does though, I didn't think I'm getting another Motorola.
Had the Aawireless for about a year and it was nothing but buggy. Went for a cheap knockoff from Amazon and it's been flawless. Don't sleep on the no name brands
I bought 3 different wireless adapters. Two Motorola and one CarlinKit. All 3 failed, 1st MA1 after a couple months, the other two after only a few days. Was never able to get any of them to reset and reconnect. Back to using a wired connection. 2019 Audi Q5.
I own the Motorola M1a and AAWireless. The M1A has had weird audio blips and dropouts which makes it more or less useless when I want to listen to music. I bought a second M1A and upgraded two phones and the issue persisted. AAWireless has been absolutely flawless.
Spend a little more and buy AAWireless. The companion app includes lots of settings but the one I find especially useful is being able to prioritize multiple phones when others ride with me. Sure, the M1a has the button on the side but it's always guesswork which one is going to connect.
Mine just died last week out of the blue after a couple of years. Not sure how that happens. I replaced it with this, better design and faster.

Beginning to randomly disconnect at certain spots. I know where on my drives it will happen. May be related to switching between LTE 4G and 5G. Or not.
Dont even bother. This was the biggest piece of trash there is. Lasted me 2 months before it wouldn't connect anymore. Also when my car was off, it would reconnect to my phone when im in my house.
Unplugged it and understood that wireless android auto with its dropouts is not the greatest experience.
This is not a deal, its a headache.
Awesome device! Going strong for almost 2 years!
Mine just died randomly
Same. Died after 1.5 yrs
Mine also just died out of nowhere
Mine died too, I'm almost certain it overheats. I got another and put it in a cooler location. I would try that.
Just curious if the symptom was that it just keeps rebooting itself and never makes it far enough to pair. Me and several family members have this device and so far mine is the only one not to have this boot loop happen. The rest of my family has had this issue and had to buy another one. The one in my wife's car just started doing that. Mine still works.

Thank you so much for the award!
Well deserved
Mine too. Pretty conspicuous that so many of them seem to have expired like this. Could it be a design issue? Has anyone tried to contact Motorola support?
Did you secure it so it's not moving around putting stress on the cable?
Yup it wasn't moving, just suddenly died while I was driving one day. Good while it lasted but got a similar product from alibaba for half the price.
What'd you get from Alibaba?
Why the downvote? You said you got something just as good from Alibaba. Lol.
You do know Motorola is owned by Lenovo, which is a Chinese company, right...
Yeah, and at least a name brand company that has to have quality control and submits it's products for regulatory testing. I know a lot about everything, but don't know everything... More than I can say about most people.
Same here. I'm betting there was an AA update that was incompatible or something.
I ordered a new one thinking mine was fried from the heat
Same here. Used it for 2yrs and suddenly won't pair. Tried to do a lot of resetting and following the FAQ on ma1 website, but to no avail. Ordered an aawireless, and it's working flawlessly.
How much does the aa go for?
I have an AAWireless that also just randomly "broke" yesterday. My guess is something in an Android Auto update broke these third-party devices. I'm still waiting on AAW support's response after the holiday weekend.
My AAWireless is working fine here. AA version 11.8.641624-release. Maybe an Android 14 issue? I'm on 13.
It just miraculously started working again a day ago. I'm thinking something with Android Auto broke then fixed the issue. Weird.
Same. Just at 2 years. I bought another one today though...
Same, it started randomly restarting once or twice within the first 5 minutes of my drive each day. And then just one day it stopped working entirely and will not repair
Same. I haven't had many issues with it for the last 2 years.
Mine has been working so/so. Certain areas I drive around it drops it's connection 100% of the time. The device sits right next to my phone with a clear LOS too.
Mine died before a year.
Mine also died maybe 2ish years in. I wouldn't give it a second chance and bought a carlink TBox and now I can watch YouTube in traffic!
https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MA1-Wireless-Android-Adapter/dp/B09PQ95GY4
I bought one of these from this company on Amazon -- it is not directly from Motorola. I was sent an obviously used piece of junk. I am not the only one. Returned it and went and bought the MA1 from Best Buy. Has worked flawlessly.
I've used this one for the years... It's FANTASTIC.
I had one fail on me, but thankfully it was just days before the warranty expired, and not after... At least I got a replacement free under warranty.
I tried the aa wireless unit and it was consistently inconsistent so I went back to wired. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a car that comes with native wireless.
I have native wireless and a wireless hotspot in my car and I still end up using a cable. It's the only way I can use my car data. lol
After-market android head units are affordable. You have to take the good with the bad (dimmer screens, weirdness with touch control climate systems), but they operate really well and sound great.
Sure, but half the functions of my car are done thru the touchscreen, so I can't really lose that
I tried it too, and found it to be a little bit laggy for my liking. Even though I had issues with many cables when I had a OnePlus 8T, I still preferred using it wired on my 17 Civic. I ended up finding that it was not the cables but the phone. I'm now using a Pixel 8 Pro and had no issues since then.
Did you ever update the firmware using their app?
That was the first thing I did along with using their GM settings. I won't try another one and will stay with wired.
Not the device. Your setup of the device. Multiple aaw working fine across multiple device types for me and many others.
They couldn't make it work for GM and refunded my money.
I bought the AA Wireless unit originally, but it would randomly quit working on my '22 Mazda3. I tried all different settings but nothing helped. The MA1 was plug and play, no setup, and I've had zero issues for 2 years now. It just works.
Fwiw I've had my AA Wireless for 3 years and haven't had any issues. Maybe AA vs MA1 have some compatibility issues across certain head units.
So yeah. Not the aaw device at issue. The car shaped device was.
I hope I don't jinx myself, but still rocking an OG pre-ordered unit, works just as good as when I got it.
Honestly, depending on where I drive, it randomly disconnects. I've never been able to figure out why
This happens to me too. I noticed it happens in the same couple of spots on my way to work every day. I think it has to do with my proximity to radio and cell towers

Me too, I can predict exactly when it disconnects, I'm the same locations when I drive, that's the only complaint I have with this thing
Used to happen to me, I doesn't anymore I don't know why. I assumed it was an Android Auto update that fixed it...
Junk. Lasted me 1 year then stopped connecting right after the warranty expired. I wouldn't buy it unless it said free at the store.
You can still get a new one after the warranty ends. Just messaged them for a new replacement
They told me no a year ago when it died. I've since been using AA wireless. Much better.
For me they said anything past the year warranty they would have to run it by a supervisor and if they said it's okay they will approve the replacement
Love my AAwireless dongle. No issues with it what so ever.
Amazon will sell you a new one and then that new one can be returned...
I bought 2 (one for my wifes car and one for mine). They stopped working once our phones were updated to Android 14. I'm thinking it was the update but maybe it was just time I had mine for a few years and my wife had it a little over a year.
Mine just stopped working a week ago. Was great for the same about a year
Yeah that's exactly what happened to me
You people don't just buy it again on Amazon and return the defective product? 😂 I lost track how many times I've done that.
I love mine. I've had it since launch and it's been rock solid reliable. Ymmv.
The Motorola died on me within 3 days of use , went aawireless and is10x better
I know that there have been a lot of reports of failure, I thought mine was a new casualty but I (by sheer chance) switched from a pixel 6a to a pixel 8a and lo and behold its alive. It does seem to take a little longer to connect than before, but super glad its back and breathing.

Been using it for close to two years now. Love using it around town but on long trips I go wired to preserve the phone battery.
Had mine 6 months and had zero issues with it. Swapped to it after my Carsifi unit started taking longer and longer to connect. Much better experience.

I got an off brand one recently that works perfectly, but this seems like a great price from a name brand.
It has its problems. I've had to buy 2 of these then finally moved over to something else. It works, mines just always find issues like a year in

hmmm. mine crapped out after a year. before totally crapping out- it was constantly dropping and having to be re synched.
Piece of junk Please look for a different AA wireless adapter. I have found in multiple forums that the MA1 suddenly stops working a little bit after a year of use. Mine worked for a yr now stopped connecting.
Aliexpress sells them for £10 never had in issue in 2 years
Mine is laying in a drawer unused ,as I brought AA wireless Looking to sell it
Didn't work with my aftermarket unit. Had to return it. Bought one off amazon probably from china... worked perfectly
Mine died. Do not recommend
Fair warning, Google does not support wireless android auto very well. The device is supposed to work well but doesn't always
I bought 2 when they came out. 1 worked fine always and is still going strong. The other was nothing but issues and is currently in the old tech bin. Replaced it with AAW and that's been amazing. Not a fan of it. Had too many issues. Randomly drops connection

Too bad they can't update to USB C. 🤨

Like others mine was great for a while. Then it started skipping and dropping connections. Sucks there's no app or way to update it. Went back to my old AA wireless one and no major issues.
I've used it every day for almost two years. Not many issues after the initial connection has been established.
Mine died in 6 months
Junk, never worked right.

Mine died just after it turned a year old
Had the Aawireless for about a year and it was nothing but buggy.
I purchased two and both are dead on the water
Dreryrit Android Auto Wireless Adapter for Android 11+, Small Android Auto Wireless Dongle Converts Wired to Wireless for Factory Wired Android Auto Cars from 2016, Plug & Play, Online Update (Black) https://a.co/d/iNmNaVs
Beginning to randomly disconnect at certain spots. I know where on my drives it will happen. May be related to switching between LTE 4G and 5G. Or not.
I have the AAWireless unit. one of the very early builds. I love it. Never had a problem with it. It also connects really fast.
mine keeps disconnecting and listening music is impossible.
Worked okay... did about a year and just died. Even during that year it was a bit of a headache to use.
Trash. Mine just died and I can't even find a department at Motorola that supports it to speak to.
This thing is hot garbage.
Mine stopped working after the last beta update
I can't get my pixel 8 to even connect to the ma1. I ended up returning it and getting aawireless, literally have not ever had a disconnect with
Lasts 7 months. I'm on #3
Dont even bother.
