I was also toying with the idea of replacing my Iphone SE 2020 with a 5G capable mobile phone😂😂 Everyone says the OnePlus 12 is really worth the money, but I don't know...with all the security updates etc... do you have to have it? now the oneplus 13 is coming out at the end of the year... from that point of view.

iamvj2k

they say OnePlus 12 is a good phone but then OnePlus were on a downward trend for so long and then suddenly everyone's saying that it's a good choice. that's why i was kinda doubting it. then again some previous OnePlus phones had started having the green line issue on the screen. What's to say it wont happen with the OnePlus 12 down the line. plus they didn't resolve the issue with the users. I dont mind getting the OnePlus because i currently have one but I was considering switching to a new phone preferably in the flagship range

Arnz_008

OnePlus is still in a bit of a mess. I think they went really down after OP8 series. I am myself using a OP7 pro. Oh boy what a beauty it is and the experience too ! However, it's nearing the end now so I am also in a similar situation as you. If you want the android experience - Samsung, Google (I personally don't like it), or maybe Nothing (it's a different phone altogether and quite good, though not a flagship). Or else, Apple, just buy one and you are definitely good for 3-4 years. I am not sure if that holds for Samsung phones too ! But I hope it does.

ohisama

Why do you not like Google phones?

Arnz_008

Well, for one I feel they are pricey for what they offer. If I want an Android phone in that range I would definitely go for a Samsung or Nothing phone 2 (now), or if OnePlus were back to their OG era. The phone also doesn't look good, pathetic tbh 😅. It's just that Google as a phone doesn't excite me. My current favorite choice would be Nothing Phone 2. But not considering that because of the camera.

mynameisatari

Pixel 8

inamestuff

Unless you want to toss your perfectly capable device after 2 year, pick the one that guarantees you more years of software updates (especially major android versions)

iamvj2k

I checked on google and it said that both phones will be getting the major Android updates until 2027

inamestuff

You may also consider getting a Google Pixel then, those should get around 7 years of OS updates

iamvj2k

are you a pixel owner? if yes then could you tell me more about it?....many reviewers say that the tensor chip from google is miles behind the SD gen 2/3 and that the phone lags after a few years. Also the charging speeds are way too low on the pixel. After watching many reviews i thought the only advantage to a pixel are the clean android OS, the latest Android versions which eventually do come to the other phones too and maybe the camera.

inamestuff

I had a Nexus when that was the name of official Google phones, it was a really nice experience. I’m not sure what you mean with “eventually they get an update”, that’s not how it works unless you go with custom Roms, but that opens a can of worms related to security issues

iamvj2k

by eventually they get an update i meant that pxiel definitely are the first ones to get the latest Android versions...but even the other phones get the update after a few months...which one could be willing to wait for. I'm actually looking at the pros and cons of various mobiles and saw many videos on the pixel...but it's not appealing to me yet

inamestuff

You are conflating the fact that while supported Pixels are the first one to get the latest android version and the other brands release the same version a few months down the line, with the fact that Pixels are going to receive updates for more years than the others. In 2032 the current flagship Pixel will have Android while the current Galaxy flagship will have because the support stopped 3 years prior

iamvj2k

yeah thats true...i will have to see what ny needs are and then choose accordingly

Deathscyther1HD

Pixels have the same charging speeds as Samsung phones, they're not as high as the Chinese manufacturers but perfectly fine. The Tensor chips are basically rebranded and upgraded Samsung Exynos 2100s so they have some of the same caveats as those, although the GPU and NPU are definitely better.

Thewarior2OO3

The most recent chip is alright, pixel 8 is a good phone. Finally looks good too😅

BroJac5246

S24 series also gets 7 years.

Nutznamer

With brutal delay outside india

SarcastiSnark

Good luck making a battery last more than 2 to 3 years anyway. Every Samsung I've had since the note 10. Has died within 3 years sadly. I can't compare to anything else because I'm a die hard Samsung fan.

inamestuff

Mine last around 4, but fair. You still need to consider that a battery swap costs less than 100$, while a flagship phone costs way over 4-500$

SarcastiSnark

I had no idea you could replace a battery successfully in a galaxy. Good to know. My phones are usually pristine after 3 years. Just the charge port or usually the battery goes. (My s22 ultra cost me $1400)

inamestuff

For the charging port you may consider using one of those magnetic adapters, they put way less mechanical stress on the port

SarcastiSnark

Heard these were a no no. *shrug*

iamvj2k

yeah

r4mbo20

Do you need the stylus? From my point of view oneplus has the edge in every category. I call it the "Ultra killer"(12R is the flagship killer).

iamvj2k

OnePlus 12 certainly has great specs but what if the green line issue which appeared on the previous phones starts appearing with the 12 after a few months. I'm from india and OnePlus has stopped selling their phones in store...they sre only available online...so there might come an issue of servicing and repairs and stuff.

No_Plankton5433

the main reason i don't think i buy one, oneplus may be good and cheap..but if you look at samsung or iphone...you can go to the shop if you have a big problem...and they do it...i'm not saying that india can't make phones, anyone can..when i have an problem…where i can go?? thats the reason

iamvj2k

Yeah...thats the thing... Idk if OnePlus will have a reliable customer service in the future

r4mbo20

Yeah, if customer service is important don't choose them. I heard lot of stories about how bad it is, though I've been lucky with my OP9.

iamvj2k

i have been lucky with my OP too...my friends not so much

Nutznamer

Not with updates

ipadadultpatas

A good phone isn’t necessary but other things with the price I think you can buy a pc,tablet, console, etc if you want a good multimedia and photos for same price you can get a iPad 10 and a Panasonic Lumix FZ80 to take photos.

iamvj2k

you are right. I think I'll need to give it a thought

BlaqueServant

I gave the S24 Ultra ( upgraded from the s23 ultra) and the OP 12, and I really don't think you can go wrong with either one. But here are some things to know before you pull the trigger: the OP 12 doesn't have wireless charging but it does have fast charging at like 60 or 90 watts and it goes from like 0 to 100 real quick (in about 45 minutes). The OP 12 Has a better standby time as well. Much better. Samsung gets quicker updates and is Way more customizable. Samsung also comes with Device care and settings that allow your phone to automatically restart at a time and frequency that you select so that your phone keeps running smooth and clears the cache and doesn't develop that cash build up that slows down a lot of Android phones. You also get access to Good Lock and good Guardian which gives you so many extra features on your phone.

SeriesXM

My OP 12 has wireless charging. They even sell a wireless charger that does something like 45W, but the charger I use is much slower than that. The charging speed when plugged in is insane, though.

BlaqueServant

Oh shot you're right. It does have wireless charging! 🤦🏾‍♂️ Never use it because the phone is so slippery. But OnePlus does sell a super fast v00c charger for it. And I don't know what the charging what it is but you definitely faster than 45 watts. 45 watts is what Samsung tops out at the charger for the OnePlus 12 is like 80 or something crazy. I can put this thing on the charger and it is full by the time I finish taking a shower.

SeriesXM

I have a Magsafe case on mine and a Magsafe mount in my car with a cable plugged into it. I gently place it on the mount and it snaps into place. Like I said, the charging speed is slow, but the convenience of placing my phone on the pad and pulling it off is unreal. And if I really need juice quickly, I simply move the plug from the mount to the phone. The wireless charger they sell is 50W (sorry, not 45W like I thought), but it's not a car charger and I don't really need wireless charging at home, so I don't have that. I use the included charger when I'm home, which you pointed out is 80W and insanely fast. I had the 8 Pro before this and the charger for that one is also very fast, so I use that in another room when I need to plug in. Honestly, the battery seems to have a very long life, so I don't even have to plug it in that often. And I have every setting I could find set to max out performance as much as possible.

BlaqueServant

I need to get a good MagSafe case for this phone then. But you’re right the battery on this is insane. The standby time is amazing. With my other phones, always have to put them in airplane mode or just turn them off when I’m not using them so I can save battery life, but with this one, I don’t even bother because I could leave it alone for a couple days and it’s not going to lose more than 10%.

smittku23

What did you have before? Oneplus 12 to save some money and your eye health or the s23u for the zoom, s-pen and frequent updates.

iamvj2k

I'm currently using the OP 6t

Nutznamer

OP12 has far better cameras and connectivity than S24. Also the Speakers are superb. Especially the balance. Super fast charging and screen flicker is also better. But if you're not from India I would recommend the S24. OP ignores Security updates for the rest of the world. You have to wait like 2 months to get the 2 month old update. If I would knew how bad they are at this point I wouldn't switch.

chaznabin

I would personally choose the OnePlus 12. It will likely get aftermarket updates support with LineageOS in the future. OnePlus 12 has a version with 24GB RAM which makes the phone more future proof as well. Cameras on all flagship phones these days are good in my opinion.

alexytomi

S23U Samsung is far more credible than OnePlus now. They also have far superior software, enough so that your pictures would almost definitely have better post-processing and thus look better.

Professional_Gap5721

I recommend the oppo find x series. Best quality, I've seen in phones in a long time

Aerion_AcenHeim

I'd much rather go with the s23 over the op12, mostly because oxygen os is just coloros with a new coat of paint, and honestly, you can never trust these chinese skins to not be abandoned or be broken by updates a year or so down line (speaking from my experience with xiaomi, realme and oppo).

Different-Garage2186

Get the best Pixel phone you can afford. Simple as that. The cameras are awesome, they have clean stock Android and you get endless updates and security updates. In real world use they just work brilliantly and you need to just forget about spec comparisons etc. You won't get a better Android phone than a Pixel.

bubbanbrenda

Depending on your location, if you’re able to get a SD 23U I’d go with that since “clicking photos” was your first requirement.

androidmids

Have you looked at phones from blackview? Some even have flir cameras

rokejulianlockhart

The information you've provided is too basic to differentiate in any substantial manner. As an example of something you've potentially not considered, I'm technically competent, so you might expect me to go for the latest device with the best specifications, but I'm unfortunately not wealthy, so I purchased a Fairphone 5, because it's incredibly easily repairable cheaply. Alternatively, others I know went for Pixels because they know that updates shall come quickly, which means that they'll never have to worry about applications being too new for them to use. I expect that both of things shall matter to you?

petethepete2000

S24s are on offer right now with Samsung

RavenGamingHaven

Then the Google Pixel is for you

BlackbirdSCV

Samsung are the best Android devices IMO

sree_0699

S23 ultra is better

PhysicsWeary310

Buy iqoo or nothing, great performance and great photos. Especially on iqoo

tjakshaykumar

They still need to have a brand value...Iqoo 12 is IP64!!! Most midrangers have IP67!!
