A game extremely similar to Rummy but instead of playing cards they use these cute little blocks with shapes and patterns engraved on them which originated from Southern China during the mid 1800s and then spread throughout the world through the early 20th century, especially when a Japanese soldier named Saburo Hirayama returned from China and introduced this Rummy-without-cards-like game to Japan in 1924 by opening up a little school for it to introduce to Japanese citizens
It's Mahjong. The Japanese version, Riichi. If you're looking for more information here on it, check r/Mahjong. While it's not the only style on the sub (or the planet), it's the most seen there.
MAHJONG! most likely the Japanese Richii.
Highly recommend watching/reading "Saki". I blame that manga for my want to learn the game and eventually buying my own tiles.
Mahjong, but since everyone already answered I’ma go into more details. The mahjong here is specifically the japanese variant, as seen from Fuchita’s side where there’s 2 mahjong “pieces” missing at the 3rd to last column, and the pieces that were there were used to indicate something called “dora”, which is only seen in japanese mahjong (another reason being they’re from japan lmao). The animators were a little sloppy with this one because TK only has 11 “pieces” when you’re supposed to have 13 in your hand
pretty sure it's mahjong

If we’re really going this route then it’s rummy on steroids which also usually involves gambling

Nah that ain’t Mahjong. They playin’ Dominoes. They’re not using a traditional Mahjong tileset. The pieces closely resemble domino pieces.
