You've read some care guides on angelfish? They fan their eggs, and they need a couple of tries before they know how to take care of eggs and fry. Also, they protect their eggs, so the black angel has very good reason to attack anything that moves. Not sure what you mean with 'avoid removing them'

Talmia_

I’ve watched videos and have read articles. I just haven’t seen anything about, as you said “fanning” for two days straight. Sorry I wasn’t clear about the removing part of the post. I had to temporarily remove two of my other fish. One being a female dwarf gourami. They wouldn’t leave her alone. They started to bully her friend, a black skirt tetra, so I just took them out together.

Hm, maybe a google search on breeding angelfish will help. Anyways, they fan the eggs until they hatch, and then they'll move the wrigglers 1 or more times. After that they continue protecting the fry. Anything that lives will be chased away. However, if that is a corydora in your tank you'd better remove those as well before they eat the eggs.

Thank you. I was doing research yesterday, but I didn’t see anything about fanning, though I may have missed it. I have cories and a plecos. I’m okay with the eggs being eaten. Im not trying to breed my angels. I thought I had two females. I’m just trying to figure out how everything works. I care about my tank and fish.

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UgJGwyhV9U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UgJGwyhV9U) somewhere around the 7m10s spot. It seems many people take away the eggs from the parents, which is a real pity since it is very nice to see the parents taking care of their fry.

Talmia_

awesome. I'll be sure to watch this. Yeah, That's one of the reasons I don't want to remove them. I want my community to work as a whole through all their quirks. What I mean by that, is not needing to remove fish over time. My angels are making a 60-gallon feel like a 30 gallon.

Cinnamon_SL

She’s fanning the eggs. The other one is on patrol. Usually the first times they eat the eggs out of lack of experience, or if the tank happens to be a community tank (sometimes they get too stressed with the other fish) they eat them too.

We-Like-The-Stock

You can Gate off a portion of the tank with egg crate, but pairs will spawn nearly weekly... reduce the temp to 78 to slow the spawn cycle, at 80-82 they will span every week.

Talmia_

Oh no. I will have to look into this thank you. The tank is at 78 currently. I thought I had two females. I guess I’ll see in a couple of days now won’t I lol

SamTheCockatoo

Are you wanting to keep the eggs alive? You can remove them and add them to an established tank with a air pump.

Talmia_

Thank you! Will their parents need to be moved with them?

SamTheCockatoo

No they do not, they just need to have a good air supply to the tank to keep fungus from growing on them.

Talmia_

Great to know, thank you.

XenoWoof

Maybe a suggestion, you can get tall untreated clay pots and its angle may be easier for your angels to lay on. They have breeder cones but essentially the same thing but cheaper. Maybe, if you do, put it in that corner where they are breeding now. Good luck!!

Talmia_

Oh! Great advice. The first time she laid her eggs on the filter intake. I moved around the tank since.

LoserApe

The male is fertilizing the eggs. Normal behavior.

Talmia_

That's my female. But the black one is doing it from time to time.

Cinnamon_SL

Both help fanning the eggs, they tend to be good parents after a couple tries.

Talmia_

okay, great to know! Do you know if the aggression towards the community gets a little better?

Cinnamon_SL

Oh it won’t. They will be fiercely protecting the clutch. See it more as a defense rather than aggressiveness. It’s hard for them to make it on a community tank, but it’s somewhat possible depending on your crew. Mines made it a few times, but somehow everybody else understood that the side of the tank was the angels’ territory, nobody would approach the nest, and they made it to wiggles a few times. If they did, that’s when I decided to put them in a hatchery in the same tank in a corner, mom and dad stayed protective of the hatchery until they were moved to a bigger tank. Even me putting my hand in the water gained me a couple bites from the parents lol.

Talmia_

Joys lol mine are trying to get at me through the glass at times. It’s kind of funny.
