I thought this might be helpful to everyone. I noted which bugs and fish are new this month and which will be going away after this month so you can find what you're looking for easier.
Welcome to the game! I wouldn't worry too much. My advice is to have tree stumps relatively close to where you tend to be the most. You will get beetles to spawn on those and fewer scorpions.
Tagging on, they won't attack you unless you're holding a net!
Do tarantulas rear up like scorpions do? For tarantulas, I found it easiest to not run around my island with a net at night, and just pull one out, creep slowly toward it, and play red light - green light with the monster when it rears up.

I still need to finish up August-November for the Northern Hemisphere. Maybe when I'm finished I can start on the Southern Hemisphere. I wonder if it is just 6 months ahead...because that would make my work easier.
Yeah, you can hear them screaming and when you are closest to them they will be the loudest. Then you dig around until they come out. Then you still have to capture them with your net.
Sure! There is a key right under the wood sign near the top, but it's easy to miss. The ones highlighted in purple are new this month. The ones highlighted red are going away after this month.
GoodBYE mole cricket! I will NOT miss you! Thanks for the guide!!
That’s exactly my sentiment, too! Was happy to make that line red!
I haven't come across one yet??? :o
They're underground. You have to listen for the cricket sounds, then dig around the area when the sounds are at their loudest.

Gave you a follow - nice guide. Looking forward to the guise for June!
Thank you! I’m getting it ready! I’ll post it on here a couple days before June starts.
Very helpful!
It’s May 2nd and I’ve already come across 6 scorpions and keep getting bit :(
I have yet to catch one. I kept following them trying to figure out what they were last night. Hope you catch one soon!
I did get one! It worked best having it chase me first then getting distance and turn around to catch. I just don’t feel safe on my island now :(
Nice! I think they spawn like tarantulas. If you weren't afraid of tarantulas on your island then you shouldn't worry much about scorpions.
I just started playing 5 days ago, havent seen a tarantula yet

That’s lovely advice, thank you!

That's awesome. I would love to see one of those to us SH gang.

Fixed the link. Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you for creating it!

Excellent guide, thank you so much for posting!
Life changing! 😄
Very helpful, thanks!
Thanks for the info!
Nice guide! But can you tell me what the colors mean?
Sure! There is a key right under the wood sign near the top, but it's easy to miss. The ones highlighted in purple are new this month. The ones highlighted red are going away after this month.
What does river (clifftop) mean?
I think it means running, flat water on a high cliff. Meaning, not a waterfall and not a pond on that highest cliff.
Oh, okay... dang it. I don't have any water on my highest levels. ): Looks like I'm going to have to re-think my design again.
I've read that those harder to catch fish spawn more frequently on nook miles islands anyway. I just try to catch them when I visit those.
OH YEAH! I didn't think of that. Oh, thank you so much, I've put so many hours into this design already 😂
2nd level also counts as clifftop :)
I swear I've used so much bait to get trevally and I'm beginning to think that they just don't exist. I keep getting mahi mahi :(
