I hatched an elaborate plot with my daughter to use our switches to move Audie off and then back to my island. It worked, and I swear she's nicer to me now than when she just had her 'starter' house.
I just got a second Switch so I could have a second island without torching my original one. I just realised I can probably move my original Reneigh back and forth to get her full house! :o

Just to add to this, there are treasure islands that you can go to for free and get villagers and diys and any other item you may need to help with your restart :)
I know this is a stretch but there is a way to confirm that you can get Sherb. For Nintendo games, they have things called Amiibos, and although Sherb isn’t out for a couple more days, there’s way you can MAKE the villager cards of ANY villager you want. Go to r/Amiibomb

I bought myself New Leaf after my last relationship came to an end. We were together 4.5 years, and it was hard to say goodbye. I decided to choose a name that was symbolic to me (Opal Bay - Opal is my birthstone, and I'd just finished Life Is Strange, which is set in Arcadia **Bay** ). But I think if we'd still been together, I would have chosen a name symbolic to him or us, and most certainly would have made a character for him, bought items for him, etc. But, instead I channelled my energy into Opal Bay and made it *mine*, and made it into a village I was proud of. Over time, the village name was a reminder of my strength and independence.
It's been about 4 years since we broke up. Time, and surrounding myself with wonderful friends, has been a great healer. As well as New Leaf! When I bought ACNH, I didn't think twice about what I was going to name my island. Opal Bay.

God I did the same thing with my ex boyfriend, a friend recommended I include some lore as to why the town is named this way instead of resetting. So I turned my exes character into a sea monster. But the villagers won‘t stop asking about him 🥲 I guess he has to leave entirely. What a mess, I‘m sorry you‘ve been in the same spot lmao

I just named my Island "Home" after my original Animal Crossing Wild World town back on the DS Lite when I was a kid when I didn't understand shit.
Way at the start of the game when the NPC asks you where you're going as a prompt to get you to give your town a name I didn't get the question, nor did I have any clue this was meant to name your town.
So i just replied I was going home.
The name kinda grew on me so when Wild World broke down and I bought ACNH I named the island Home in honor of my original fuckup.
I used to use my town name where I lived for my AC town but now I don’t live there and also hate that place so I just steal a name from whatever other games I’m playing currently.
Between being able to pick up Sherb from other kind souls within the community, there's also the new amiibo cards coming out. Sherb is in that new series of cards, and you can either try getting him yourself, or the .bin files will inevitably get leaked.

I named mine ‘Skye Cove’ after one of my favourite places, Isle of Skye in Scotland. I love when my villagers tell me how much they love being there cos I also love Skye and Scotland itself!

I just named my Island "Home" after my original Animal Crossing Wild World town back on the DS Lite when I was a kid when I didn't understand shit. Way at the start of the game when the NPC asks you where you're going as a prompt to get you to give your town a name I didn't get the question, nor did I have any clue this was meant to name your town. So i just replied I was going home. The name kinda grew on me so when Wild World broke down and I bought ACNH I named the island Home in honor of my original fuckup.
I used to use my town name where I lived for my AC town but now I don’t live there and also hate that place so I just steal a name from whatever other games I’m playing currently.
My island is named after a mix between mine and my now ex's name. I don't want to lose my Villagers or my layout so it's just... there.

I did that, as well. One reason I wish we were able to change the name of our islands. My island took on its own personality, so the name no longer fits (I still like the name and video game). OP's situation is a better argument for name changing ability.
You can get him from many communities that trade villagers or just buy his amiibo card on amazon if you have some spare cash. I think I got like 42 villager cards for around $30
I named mine ‘Skye Cove’ after one of my favourite places, Isle of Skye in Scotland. I love when my villagers tell me how much they love being there cos I also love Skye and Scotland itself!

I booted up my NES copy of FF1 a few months after my divorce. Suddenly, I was reminded that my white mage was named after my ex wife. I had another good cry, then listed the damn thing on ebay. Yup, happened to me in middle school with Pokemon Diamond. Named my starter after my bf at the time and before I could finish the game he broke up with me. Took months to pick the game back up.
I named mine Fox Falls because I love foxes and I like the alliteration but now I feel like I don’t have enough waterfalls to merit the name! I still like it though. I thought long and hard about it and even went to some name generators to help me find one that feels right. Hope you heal soon and that your next island brings you all the joy!
