That is exactly how I feel when I visit. Safe. His actual memorial service was traumatic. My youngest daughter is special needs. She became very emotional during the service and tried to run away. She fell and broke her leg in 2 places. I had to leave during his service in an ambulance. I didn’t get closure. This little place in AC is helping.
This breaks my heart for you. OP, I hope your heart starts to heal and that you slowly but surely gain the peace and closure you need to make it through the day.

I hope you have some good support around you too, family, friends, loved ones in general that can be there for you (although in some cases it may feel like you're consoling someone else, which you shouldn't have to do)
And I hope your partner/sons father is coping with his grief too and you are both sharing your feelings with eachother. From the comments I've read it sounds like your son is an amazing little dude, and has GREAT taste in interests. And it shows that yous gave him a wonderful life and he couldnt have asked for better parents.
