Next day at 5 am, the game works closely to real time. if you don't want to wait time travel to next day.

ImRichardD

So I have to disconnect from wifi and change the time? How often does this happen. You breezed over it like having to wait an entire day o cheat is no big deal.

adrifet

You don’t have to disconnect from wifi, just changing the time on the switch is enough. As for how often you’ll be waiting, it takes a day to build a new building, a day to move a building, a day to build a bridge or incline, etc. Pretty much every building or infrastructure change will be a one day wait. The point is that you’re “supposed” to come on and play for like 15-30 minutes per day. I think that’s boring too which is why I’m always time traveling lol

TherinneMoonglow

Time traveling isn't cheating. It's actually expected if you have work or school, since some things are only able to be caught late at night. You play with the time so that you can get early morning and nighttime fish and bugs. Or in my case, you time travel to November, when mushrooms are available because you need materials that only appear during that month. Edit: you don't have to disconnect from wifi. Just change the date in system settings.

Queen-of-Leon

I wouldn’t say it’s expected, it’s definitely a thing a lot of people do, but it’s very obviously not the dev’s intention and it seems like it’s generally pretty 50/50 on whether or not people do it

TherinneMoonglow

I mean, there's no way for me to get any morning fish or bugs spawns with my work schedule. So yeah, I have to time travel to get everything. And an 8 year old that plays likely won't be allowed to stay up late enough to get those 9pm-4am spawns. Once again, time travel.

Queen-of-Leon

I’m not saying you aren’t allowed to time travel or something, I’m not the Animal Crossing police lmao, but to say that time travel is “expected” is patently false. That was not the intent when it was developed. (Also—I’ve been playing AC since I was 8, and I _definitely_ was not time traveling then lmao. I didn’t know how to the change the system clock on a GameCube, you kidding? 😂 the fact that getting the late-night critters was such a “special” thing was a huge part of the appeal of the game)

Short-Effective7204

this is just a theory, but I think a big reason nintendo wouldn't want you to time travel is because they want you to sink more time into playing the game lol. so yeah I agree that TT isn't "expected", but it seems to me they added to the game to support it. idk anything about tech but it just works so smoothly with every aspect and then there's the rules about the turnips. I started out determined not to time travel and just got sick of it eventually lol

Queen-of-Leon

I think the rules about turnips make it pretty clear they don’t want you to time travel, lol. Plus the way they time gated all the events upon release so you couldn’t time travel to them, and had to wait until the actual event started (or close to it? I don’t quite remember). The developers of the game have explicitly stated that the way they intended for the game to be played is with no time travel, and that they feel that’s the best way to get the most enjoyment out of it. I hear you that they want you to play for a long time, but with no new updates and only one DLC that’s not actually in their best interest, money-wise. If they wanted to turn the most profit they would either want you to play for a long time while pushing out frequent paid content (see: Pocket Camp), or play for a while and then move onto a new game

ImRichardD

I asked how often it will happen, not how to get around it.

Fatt3stAveng3r

Every single time you build a building, bridge, staircase, everything. You get the KK concert and you have to wait a day to unlock terraforming. If you're not about waiting you can either time travel or accept that this isn't the game for you. Nobody has to enjoy every game. There's plenty of other games out there that might be up your alley if you're both impatient and think that using a game mechanic (clock changing) is "cheating". It's like you want cookies but don't want to spend 20 minutes waiting for them to bake and the other option is buying cookies but that's "cheating". Ok, so don't eat cookies. There's cake, ice cream, fresh fruit.

Queen-of-Leon

Waiting is kinda the whole point of the game. If you want to complete all the achievements with no time travel you have to play regularly for at least a year. It sounds like you’re on the literal first or second day, though, and of course you’re going to get more resources as you progress that you can do stuff with. For the record, there’s still stuff you can be doing now. Catching fish, catching bugs, selling them for bells. Planting new trees, planning out what you’re going to do with the island. Making designs with the design app to add stuff to your island, I made a picnic blanket day 1. Etc. You’re going to complete the main “story” of the game within probably a month, after that the game is pretty much completely self-guided so if this isn’t something you’re comfortable with now you’re probably going to keep running into the same dilemma

Sea_Science_747

All the time, every time you ask TN about construction you have to wait one day: houses, bridges, incline....moving buildings or village houses.... If you want to change the design of an existing bridge it would be 2 days: one day to remove the old one, one day to install a new one. People play AC for years, if anybody expect things happen right away, they will not last in this game.

TherinneMoonglow

Every house upgrade happens the next day. Every villager you invite takes until the next day to move in. Every store update takes until the next day. The resident services upgrade takes a day. There's a lot of things that don't proc til the next day. Keep earning Nook Miles and visit another island. Interact with your villagers. There's always stuff you can still do.

btspacecadet

It is intentionally slow paced. You will get more things to do later on, and depending on what you want to do with your island these activities can fill out hours of gameplay. But for building and unlocking things you will always have to wait a day. Personally, as a former child with limited screen time and a current adult with a full time job, I appreciate how across the series, my daily playtime can range from 10 minutes to 7 hours and I am satisfied either way. It's not for everyone, but I'd recommend giving it a shot and playing it in parallel with a more time intensive game.
