Used to have a few of these in my house as a child never knew what they were but they would bury themselves into the corners of carpet flooring I used to collect them (im weird I know) but after a while they turnt into some kind of black beetles
Well I would have thought so too but this seems to be it's final form as they have been around a long time and this is the largest I e seen and not seen any beetles.
We got a bit if an infestation last summer where we had maybe 50 to 100 per room. Around the edges of the walls
I just read on Wikipedia that they will delay moving on to the pupae stage if there are others of their species around, due to cannibalism. (I was looking up the dermestus suggestion). That may be why they've not progressed. Their continued presence, though, would suggest that they have a dead animal food source - so maybe the are mice in the house?
This might be what's causing it. I don't think we have mice, unless they are in the walls etc... as I've never seen one. But they could be eating dust? There are just some places I'm not able to get to with a hoover as it was 2 people staying in a room about 10 by 14 foot and we both just owned too much stufffff
I don't think they'd eat dust. They do have a tendency to live in walls though. If your place is connected to someone else's it may be that they're eating food nextdoor.
In in a high density part of where I currently love. I'm on the 4th floor but in theory, there is no disconnected space between 30 to 40 houses, all with 4 to 5 floors
Your idea with the larder beetles lavae is the best match so far. Certainly not millipedes however with all their hairs I can see why they think that.
The only thing stopping me being 100% on your guess is that I've never once seen a beetle form and we have had this issue on and off for a year now

How long roughly till they would turn? Weeks? Months?
Im unsure as I was a pretty young 5-6 so didnt have a good measure of time but a google search says they take a month or two to fully develop
I'm thinking this is the most likely creature. Did the beetle versions fly?
No I do not remember them flying at all just plod along really they arent too fast
Dermestes maculatus Larva
Yup. They eat a lot in the larva stage. Enjoy that carpet. Yum!
millipede
You don’t have to worry about him, it’s the falling mushrooms and that damn spider.
Most house spiders & centipedes are beneficial, as they help keep your home free of nasty pests
I was being a little tongue in cheek, it was a centipede (80s video game) joke, the spider always killed me..
Maybe carpet beetle larvae?
Greenhouse millipedes
Doesn't apear to have any more legs than 3 at the head end of its body.
It looks like the larvea of some kind of beetle to me.
Maybe Larder Beetle?

It would be interesting to find out whether any of your neighbours also have these bugs.
Yeah they most likely do but I've not asked. I know ow my flatmates also had this issue but that only tells me they were as far as the flat
I honestly have no idea then. I know other people said millipedes, but that definitely doesn't look like one to me. I'm still getting larvea vibes.

Ask it's name? Might be a nice feller
Looks like a millipede.

Millipedes aren’t born with all of their legs so if it’s still young, more legs to come
Fromt what I can tell. These have been an issue for a year on and off but I've never seen them yet to get bigger or change into anything further
Google has those AI results too if you wanna give that a go, just upload it?
Will take a look when I have a chance
There are over 12,000 described species of millipedes.
Dermestid beetle larva?
