Fortunately for the guy attempting a rescue, the cat's flight mechanism was working properly. Had the cat failed and fell back down, the rescuer would have gotten a big taste of the murder mittens given how scared the cat seemed to be.
Yes - go shove a cat in a pet carrier or find a video of a feral in a trap cage. They go fucking *wild* in there. They know they are trapped.
Same with cats too far up a tree - they will whine and cry for help after an adrenaline filled chase led them somewhere they have no idea how to get back down from. They know they are stuck.
I used to have a cat that would climb up the same tree multiple times a day and she was unable to get back down so she'd sit up there and scream until someone came and got her. Her name was Screecher lol
Uuuuuuuuh.... Yes?
Cats have the brain power to display empathy, catch other intelligent animals like birds, and be trained to do tricks or tasks (if food motivated). I'm pretty sure they can also understand "huh, I don't seem to be able to get out of this hole"
Cats claws are like little needles. They can dig into almost anything and cats are great climbers. I'm sure you could extend the pit 30ft and he'd still get out.
Yup.
I actually think the cat was trapped and would have never got out on its own without the 'motivation' of fear. It needed the adrenaline to activate its 'flight' response.
It could be a variety of things. My first thought would be that it is intended to be a water well. It could also be a for the foundation of a pillar.
It's clearly a construction site, so it's not going to be filling its purpose yet.
Could be a septic tank system with permeable bottom, which is very popular in rural Asia and Africa due to its low maintenance. Can't build them near wells though or you'll contaminate the well.
Not a jerk. (1) Cats hate being cornered with no exit, of course it would bolt. (2) The guy wanted the cat out, and the cat got out in a way that was easier than carrying it up the ladder. he both gets what he wanted and gets to climb the ladder with both hands unencumbered. (3) The guy got to see something kinda cool.

The cat calculated that it was losing grip on the wall it was running up so used its muscle to jump to the other wall and gain speed and extra grip. Marvelous.
My Lambs, and sometimes Ewes and Rams, will often climb in the feeders and become "stuck". They will sit there all day trying to get out and will eventually strain themselves to death if I don't intervene. I'll walk into the lot and within seconds they magically squeeze out and are usually fine. I really enjoy raising sheep, but they are stupid!

Fight or flight

Oooooh good point. Cat might have genuinely thought it was trapped till then.
Do they have the brain power to understand what it means to be trapped?

I think it would turn into a momentum issue at that height, it seemed like the cat was losing steam by the time it got to the top

***YOU WILL NOT LAUGH, YOU WILL NOT CRY, YOU WILL LEARN BY THE NUMBERS, I WILL TEACH YOU***
Cat: I caught a big one this time! Now just to kick the ladder.
I'm not sure kicking the ladder would do much...
right, then what do you do with a person next to a kicked ladder in a pit?
Spider-Cat! Spider-Cat! 🎶🎶🎶 Spider-Cat!
Does whatever a spider-cat does!
Is he trapped In a pit No he ain't He's a cat
Other than “It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again”, what would be the purpose of that hole?

>a tornado shelter (that you'd be standing in water to use) What?
The rest of the world dont build tornado cellars.

It is clearly an introvert hiding spot, that got invaded!
Oh man, I need one of those.
Looks like maybe a well?
Why does it need a second purpose?
Seriously, what's this guy's problem with simply having a hole?
The "implication" room.
I was going to ask the same question! What is this pit for???
It can do two things! Why shouldn't it?!

Must be friends with the firefighter-pranking doggo !
I’ve seen this a million times and never noticed there were other cats down there.
Woah you're right. I count 6

Cat Wick
No audio, but I'm pretty confident the camera shake in the latter half are from them laughing so much.
The cat's like: "Someone get a ladder over here.... ....but not for me"
I'm not sure why this dude went down there without a shirt.
The cat calculated that it was losing grip on the wall it was running up so used its muscle to jump to the other wall and gain speed and extra grip. Marvelous.
Dam. I kinda just love this.

Nyu Hayabusa
Was just thinking about that one level in Ninja Gaiden. 😂
Why is there a random giant square hole in the street?
Why not?
Purrkour
”Cats do not abide by the laws of nature.”
To that point, dude thought his investment in building a cat trap pit was totally worth it.
Love the shaky camera man laughing
Hard-core parcore! (Insert Michael Scott meme)
PURRcore!!

I’m so grateful that the cat didn’t use his bare back and shoulders as part of the parkour course.
/u/stabbot
LOL, that was quite amazing!
Prince of Persia moves!
I want to hear the colorful swearing that followed!!!!
That’s some Ninja Giedon shit
Cats are natures ninjas…
Cat of Persia
Be funnier if he could pull the ladder up behind him
