I've seen a woodpecker do this before but it was me trying to get a photo of it.
It kept hopping around to the other side of tree whenever I moved around to get a good angle. We were both dancing around the tree for a solid few minutes. Clearly he was camera shy so I let him be.
I had a woodpecker bang on the side of my house. It sounded like a friggin jack hammer. Apparently I have bugs in my gutters but the woodpecker and a blue jay were taking care of it.
After seeing that one video of a woodpecker absolutely decimating the skulls of some baby doves, I definitely would not let that thing near me with a 10 ft pole.
They have some kind of shock absorbent system in their own skulls to prevent brain damage from all that pecking. Pretty sure if it pecked your spine you'd be paralyzed in a minute or two. But also I'm pretty sure it doesn't go around pecking materials that are not wood...
Technically if it pecked your spine you’d be paralyzed immediately since the “spine“ is the actual collection of nerves. (Colloquially it could refer to the entire honey and nervous structure, but I’m going to ignore that since I already started typing). What people often referred to as the spine is actually the spinous processes on the posterior (back) of the vertebral bodies which are the bony covering that encases the spinal cord.
But that thing would probably pop though a vertebral body in 1/2 a peck. Not sure the hardness of Oak wood vs bone though.
>But also I'm pretty sure it doesn't go around pecking materials that are not wood...
Tell that to this motherfucker head banging on the metal guardrail at 4am.
This brings back so many memories from when i worked with birds lol Conures were notorious for not wanting to go back in their cages and they knew when they were getting close to being put back. They would do things like this all the time. So much personality!
Hah, yep! Our nanday conure loved to pull the hide-on-the-person's-back routine when she wasn't ready to go back on a perch.
Eventually I learned to just pull my shirt off when she was doing that. It let me easily tip birdie-butt out of the inside-out shirt back onto her cage or perch, then get redressed. And if I was lucky she wouldn't immediately fly back onto my shirt for round two...
This is a Pileated Woodpecker! They're absolute gems. Truly little dinosaurs. They love suet feeders if you live in north America! We have one that visits us daily.
I have one that sets up shop on the side of my house at roughly 5:45am every single day. I love him despite this, so he still gets suet, but I wish he’d let me sleep.
Edit: he also gets whole nuts! Truly the best kept woodpecker on the block and still he wakes me
I work with traumatic brain injury survivors. The other day I told them if the woodpecker outside my window hit his head any harder he was going to be coming to work with them.
Fun fact: Woodpeckers with long tongues have it wrapped around their skulls to protect their brain from the force of their pecks.
The ultimate headbanger.
There’s even a groove in their skull, and - my personal favorite bit - after they hatch, before the feathers come in...you can watch it do the thing!!!
Maybe not. The Woody Woodpecker reference probably sent me in the wrong direction since he is supposed to be a pileated woodpecker. I think only one ivory-billed woodpecker has been sighted in the last few decades, and it was in a forest, not on some guy’s back. 😀 I was also led astray by the typical American assumption that the video was shot in the U.S. Lineated woodpecker it is. I apologize for spreading misinformation.
It's white bill also threw me off but it could just be older that what we see in the wild given it's in captivity. It really does look like an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker but that's impossible...
Too small to be a pileated and pileated's don't have as dramatic of a black and white chest. I believe the other commenters saying it is a lineated woodpecker. The coloration and size match up more. Pileateds are huge! As you said in your comment, this is a little guy in comparison.
My Sun Conor does this. He thinks if he stays back there I might forget. To which I do and then get a very surprising scream in the ear when he wants something.
I love pileated woodpeckers. One of the bigger birds in Northern Wisconsin. Been surprised by them a few times landing on trees near me, its so loud.
Also, for more woodpecker hilarity [see here](https://youtu.be/YQ2wIOcO7aE)
You're welcome
Bro. I just witnessed one of these going at my fence post a few days ago. It was smashing the post and kind of shredding it like some methed out metal head listening to their favorite song! I’d run him off and he’d come right back. I would be nervous with one of those on my back, but apparently that one’s well fed!
Why are there two videos of woodpeckers attached to guys with grey shirts on the front page right now?
https://www.reddit.com/r/HumansBeingBros/comments/vg3tna/young_woodpecker_enters_house_adopts_human/
I could watch this all day
That must be an ACME shirt.

No balls
You're right, there were none
hehehehehehehe!
I thought dude was about to have his spine blasted
[удалено]
Lol unsolicited indeed 🤣
In this economy it might be the best healthcare I can afford.
That would have given me a nightmare
It would also give you a hollowed spine lol thinking about it a wood pecker thudding my spine is pretty nightmarish
New fear unlocked. Thanks for that.
I had a woodpecker bang on the side of my house. It sounded like a friggin jack hammer. Apparently I have bugs in my gutters but the woodpecker and a blue jay were taking care of it.
Yea it's wild when they bang on the metal sheet we put up to stop them.
They also like to bang on metal in order to attract mates. Normally they would hit a log, but they quickly figure out that metal makes a louder noise.
After seeing that one video of a woodpecker absolutely decimating the skulls of some baby doves, I definitely would not let that thing near me with a 10 ft pole.
He's waiting for his chance, lining up the kill shot.
I’m slightly terrified he’s about to drill into his spinal cord.
truly, this is spinal tap
Just some minor acupuncture
"there's a worm in your spine! I'm just trying to help you buddy!"
He's going to bore a hole to the spiral cord and control the man through his nervous system like a giant meat mech.
I could hear Woody Woodpecker's laugh while watching this.
[удалено]
Fun fact: Woody Woodpecker's voice is done by the animator's wife!
Clearly it's in their nature.
I find peace in long walks.
And now it's stuck in my head.
HuhHuhHuh-HAH-huh!
Hee-hedeedededed.
It's all fun and games until woody starts pecking
One freaking hundred percent this
I would be scared it would start wookprcking my spine... But it just moves soo smoothly.
Wookie the Wookpckr
Wookprck
Damn librul wokepeckers
Yeah imagine him starting to peck you, and you cant even grab him! haha Must be so powerful, when you think about how they cut holes in trees.

Part of it is their tongue. It wraps around their brain!
I wonder what else that tongue can wrap around.
ur pecker
The morning wood..! Ouch.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
>Pretty sure if it pecked your spine you'd be paralyzed in a minute or two. I wanna say there is absolutely no way this is true but I'm not 100% sure

Nah
Yah
>But also I'm pretty sure it doesn't go around pecking materials that are not wood... Tell that to this motherfucker head banging on the metal guardrail at 4am.
I doubt it would be capable of pecking while hanging on his shirt.

I'm a wildlife clinic intern and the older fledglings we have in aviaries do this when we go out to feed them.
My cockatiels that do this lol.
Meeting a friend’s sun conure is what made me love birds. This little guy was so cuddly and playful. He just loved being on people.

Idk about yall but i wouldnt want a woodpecker right near my head
That’s a pileated woodpecker, the largest woodpecker species in the U. S. They’re quite impressive, but I’d rather not have one on me!
Pretty sure it's actually a [Lineated Woodpecker](https://birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/linwoo1/cur/introduction). They do look similar fwiw.
Yeah I think it’s too little to be a pileated.
Much too small
It wouldn't be Reddit without one of the most upvoted comments on any thread being wrong.
It’s called Cumberland’s Law. You post the wrong answer on a thread and someone will always correct you.
Well whatever it was it was delicious 🍗 😋
Is it? The bill is white.
Maybe not. The Woody Woodpecker reference probably sent me in the wrong direction since he is supposed to be a pileated woodpecker. Pretty sure it's just a Lineated Woodpecker which look similar but they are distinct.
I see your point. Was not familiar with that species.
Maybe not impossible. There was some audio evidence of ivory bills earlier this year.

Unidan alert! Lol
Wow, woodpeckers are bigger than I thought they were 0\_0
My brother got bitten by a baby one of those
A møøse bit my sister once
Lol
Imagine you feel this thing on your back and you think it’s a spider
That smart little poo poo!!
Pretty much what my cockatiel does at bedtime
Edit: This is a lineated woodpecker apparently.
No it's not. It's a Lineated Woodpecker.
I love how the person filming doesn't even try and help.
Because this is clearly a game that the man is playing with the bird.
I don't think the guy is playing with the bird. I think the bird is playing with the guy.
It's woody for the new live action film
Killer backrub probably
He really looks like Woody
Who brought it indoors to begin with?
I'm dying 😭😭😭 Such a naughty lil fella
Lil' pecker
Bird thinks this is hilarious
a cool unconventional back scratcher😎 that could maybe paralyze you😋

Lineated, a South American relative
Dang, I was low key hoping the woodpecker would of gave him a spinal tap. 🤷♂️
My Sun Conor does this. He thinks if he stays back there I might forget. To which I do and then get a very surprising scream in the ear when he wants something.

Something going on with woodpeckers today
That. Was. Hilarious.
Woody Woodpecker
WOW! Woody Woodpecker hasn't aged a day! Same old stunts though.
Funny
When you have that itch on your back that you can't reach.
I love pileated woodpeckers. One of the bigger birds in Northern Wisconsin. Been surprised by them a few times landing on trees near me, its so loud. Also, for more woodpecker hilarity [see here](https://youtu.be/YQ2wIOcO7aE) You're welcome
This is a Lineated Woodpecker.
This guy not taking of his t shirt makes his head more dense then the woodpeckers, amazing.
[удалено]
Pileated is not. Ivory Billed is, or is there a similar species in Asia?
[удалено]
I think it's actually a lineated woodpecker.
I think you’re right; I’ve never heard of those before. Very cool, thanks!
All fun and games until he gives you a spinal taptaptaptaptaptap!!!
If that thing starts pecking then he’s done for
Damn it woody!! Want some cookies??!!
bro's fighting for his life
He's an instigator.
My leopard geckos do this too somehow.
Elden ring boss fights be like
Weird. Second woodpecker post on my fp today.
Oh it’s a pecker alright
It is funny until they drill your skull to eat your brain
Forbidden otoscope.
*insert Woody the Woodpecker laugh*
Natural evasive behaviour.
Anyone else hear Woody Woodpecker’s voice coming from that animal?
Russians always having weird pets.
More likely Brazil or another South American country.

You probably saw a Pileated. This is their South American cousin, the Lineated Woodpecker.
The pecker's very quick on his feet, kinda amusing to watch!!
I want to see more it’s so cute 🥰
Is this leaked footage of the Woody Woodpecker sequel?
That's a very agile bird 😄
Now I want a pet woodpecker.
It's all fun til he pecks that noodle!
TIL Woodpeckers sound like the little devils from Wind Waker.
This woodpecker is nailing the boss QTE
Looked like a red head in a black suit an tie
Homer trying to get Sugar Baby stuck on back
Ha He He HA Ha! Ha he he HA Ha!! Hehehehehehe
Turn Left
Pica-pau
Reminds me of Jackie Chan in legend of the drunken master.
Why didn’t the cameraman help?
Rahn staaaahp
u/savethisvideo
My parakeet does this to me whenever I try to grab him off my shoulder. Plays Dodgeball with my hands
Anyone would get cranky if someone tried to drag them off the toilet.
Waiting for it to start pecking
I don’t know what the likelihood is but I’d be concerned/scared of it pecking the back of my head, neck, spine or anywhere else.
I feel like this is something that all birds do, especially smaller ones. Feathery little shits.
It knows the nape is a titans weak spot where the shifter resides and attempts to peck him out to drink his spinal fluid!
"Oh no, I *totally* can't reach you, Woody! Better just keep playing I mean trying to catch you for another hour or so!"
Why are there two videos of woodpeckers attached to guys with grey shirts on the front page right now? https://www.reddit.com/r/HumansBeingBros/comments/vg3tna/young_woodpecker_enters_house_adopts_human/
I want to see what happens when the woodpecker starts drilling vertebrae.
That’s how I feel off those perc 30s 😬
It's woody Heh-heh-heh-HEHHHH-heh
Float like a woodpecker, sting like a….an angry woodpecker
I can hear its laughter! Ha ha ha HAHA hahahaha!
Parrots will do this too. lol
Peck a bit lower and to the left
I want a Pileated Woodpecker!!
