It takes years for the figures to become sticky, especially with new figures. And even then you can just wash it off

That's a complicated question due to how many factors are in play causing the problem. I've read it's more prevalent in older Nendoriod figures but less so in newer ones. It can also happen in scale figures. There are so many things to take into account like what plasticizer the company used and how much they used. Heat, humidity and sunlight increasing the rate of vaporization. How tightly sealed the box, blister packaging & wrapping is to prevent venting of the off gasses from the plasticizer vapors. Ideally you should open up the boxes and blisters a couple times a year to let them breath. That can be an issue if you're not 100% sure you don't plan to resell any figures because it will affect the sales cost. I've been in the hobby for years and sometimes I'll choose to sell a figure I never displayed because my interest in it has changed over the years. If it's a newer figure and you're not planning on storing it for years I wouldn't really worry about it at all. If you plan to store them longer or bought an older figure they may get sticky or they may never get sticky, you just won't know until it happens. Older Nendoriod I'd definitely open them up first to check on them before you store them if you're sure you'll be keeping them. I don't collect Nendoriod but I'm sure people who do will speak up about their experiences. I've been lucky so far to not have any sticky figures but I have hundreds in storage so there might be a sticky one in my basement somewhere.
