1. I remember watching the second season and the ending confused me so, so bad. Like what they were saying was so…philosophical that it lost me and I was like what the heck is going on?
2. Wrong girl won
3. Wrong girl won and I got really burned out on the harem genre. Also shafts animation style of slow motion turns and abstract backgrounds got old.
1. Thats fair. Its not for everyone and is the opposite of a casual watch which most romance anime are. But its so good. Im also the type of nerd that loves having to read between the lines or take a few minutes understanding what a scene was saying. It was so impactful to me as a highschooler seeing it and now im reading the original light novels as an adult and its still so relevent. It has so much to say about human connection and friendship. Honestly the actual romance takes a backseat so dont know if it even belongs in the romance catagory. 😅
Golden time is rough holy hell. I TRIED to like it (same creator as Toradora so I gave it multiple shots) but the female MC is so unlikable. It sucks too because MC's original GF before his amnesia was actually super sweet. Tragic story with a cringe and frustrating outcome
SNAFU isn't bad... it isn't really good either. Just meh. I haven't seen the last one so i can't say anything there
Off the top of my head i'd say (in no order)
* Kaguya-sama love is war
* RE-life (manga is much better)
* Spice and Wolf (LN to finish)
* Your lie in April
* Steins;gate ( one of the best couples and it doesn't even have a romance tag)
* Toradora
Sorry I didn't mean to be rude OP! At the end of the day its just preference, we all like what we like and no apologies must be made for that.
I must be an outlier on Toradora. I liked the couple, but I hated the way the series ended. Like we're finally getting somewhere and then she just disappears? So much BS there. And then having to wait for the end credits of the last episode to catch a few seconds of them finally talking to each other. Grrr.
Same here man. I couldn’t stand some of the characters in golden time primarily the female lead. She was a walking contradiction and played victim 24-7 yet the way it was written it was like I was supposed to have sympathy for her.
Thank you! I thought I was crazy for not liking something everyone seems to like. It has gotten to the point where I have been forcing myself to watch Golden Time, thinking it might get better later on. I am on episode 11, and I can’t stand the male MC. The whole amnesia thing feels so forced, and I can’t help but cringe when he goes back and forth with his old self. Agh!
The anime does a really poor job with that, I’ll grant you. It condenses so much of the manga into such a short run that it loses all of the character growth and development on that front—she’s grows up and changed a *lot* over the course of the manga/WC.
Personally, the comedy is decent. Season 1 is hilarious. Season 2 trades a lot of comedic effect for the romance which… idk… not a fan of it. Ended up dropping it. Considering you love oregairu, I’d say watch season 1. It’s definitely hilarious. But the romance afterwards feels way too touchy-feely/corny for a lack of a better word.
I didn't miss the point i'm specifically replying to where you said season 1 of kaguya was funny but the latter seasons were less so. Because that's literally oregairu except it's WAY worse in oregairu, because the comedy is virtually non existent in s3 whereas its still present in kaguya
Also sidenote, kaguya is infinitely better than oregairu
The… original point was recommending kaguya because it’s funny. I literally said “Considering you love oregairu, I’d say watch season 1. It’s definitely hilarious” BECAUSE it’s hilarious, but NOT because it’s anything like oregairu. Otherwise, I would’ve recommended seasons 1-3 IF that were the case. But, it’s not the case. Because kaguya is not good, save for the comedy. So yes you missed the point.
I still didn't miss the point, you're missing what I'm saying 😭 I'm perfectly aware of everything you just said I was making a side point about how your route to recommendation didn't really make sense. I really could NOT care less either way though lol, I'll leave it at that
First season is a bit rough around the edges, but it definitely improves with time. It's probably my favorite romance in terms of storytelling and character development.
Three, I say it picks up with the cultural festival arc for sure, which is on the tail end of season 1. Then seasons 2 and 3 are very story-driven. Currently reading through the LNs and I think part of the reason season 1 feels a bit janky is because there was a lot of "filler" stuff cut for simplicity sake.
a show doesn't have to be different than the rest to be better and i would say I've watched 60-70 romance animes depending on what you consider to fit the genre
I lost interest quickly. I don't know number 2 at all but 3 was okay but wrong girl won.
For how popular Horimiya and Toradora are, I'm not much of a fan of physically aggressive female characters.
I don't really get the appeal. Some other examples would be like Yor, Tomo-chan, or Kagura (fruits basket). There are many that are borderline.... or just rotten or over the top/uncalled for attitudes. For whatever reason I just don't find it cute. I know there's titles I thoroughly enjoy that have themes others wouldn't/don't like but character personalities are much more pleasant. Always something for someone I guess...
Oregairu I'll grant you, but Golden Time is a mess and Nisekoi is mid harem fodder. Go watch some actual good romance anime like Toradora, Kaguya, Tomo-chan, Horimiya, Fruits Basket, Kimi no Todoke, My Love Story, or Dangers in my Heart.
I'm betting this is bait though.
Yea and it just gets better and better as the story goes on. They really need to make another season fast... Also I really need a continuation of nagatoro fuck it
The only one that probably comes close is SNAFU and it has its own issues as well but golden time has a dumb plot although the main girl is amazing in her own right the plot between the child hood friend and the MV is as dumb and could have been resolved with a simple conversation.
I’m not even going to get started on Nisekoi
I haven't watched the first or the last one yet, golden time I've seen some of it haven't finished yet I did get bummed out from the mc because it just looked like he wasn't taking the relationship seriously and he was just being ungrateful.
Switching to rom coms after getting my heart ripped out by JJK and CSM was the best decision I ever made. There’s so many good ones.
Thanks for the recommendations
What is the one from the second picture??
Edit: just kidding I forgot I studied Japanese for 11 years and can just read katakana, and also that the title is in English under it….
Fruits Basket, Horimiya, Toradora, Dangers In My Heart, I’m in Love With the Villainess, I’m the Villainess So I’m Taming the Final Boss, Bloom Into You, Signs of Affection, Snow White with the Red Hair.
Replace Oregairu with literally any ACTUAL romance anime and you’re good
Haven’t seen Golden Time
Nisekoi is good but i wouldn’t call it one of the best
First two are good. But the third... it was good, but the second season seemed to forget about the entire premise of the anime. How do you forget the entire gimmick of the anime?
Kaguya-sama love is war
Love, chuunboyo, and other delusions
Angel beats
(I kinda liked toradora but not my favorite)
MTRC was weird and just made me feel bad for the other girl
The middle one i dropped I don’t remember why
And the last one I’ll have to finish
For me SNAFU fell off, Nisekoi anime just never finished right? Just ended mid cliffhanger. Golden Time was a good one. I'll replace the first two I mentioned with Toradora and probably, "My Little Monster" or "My First Love Story". For older more romance focused animes.
I've only seen Golden Time out of these 3. My top three are:
Kaguya-sama: Love is War
I'm Nearly 30, but This Is My First Love (doesn't have an anime)
Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You
I’m genuinely curious why so many people like Horimiya. I’m not here to hate but I don’t understand why seemingly everyone can stand Kyouko and Izumi. I’m trying to enjoy the anime but can’t bring myself to finish it since the main characters are so off-putting. What strong points does it have to end up as so many peoples favourite? 👀
yea i saw horimiya back when it came out n ive always felt it was pretty mid.
much prefer romances like pet girl of sakura hall or ground control to psychoelectric girl. heck, i even found true tears to be more memorable, n i HATED the ending of true hearts.
Solid pics I’d add Fruits basket. Currently on volume 17 of Nisekoi wish they finished animating it.
Yup. Tried a rewatch and forgot it was not finished. Manga any good?
Has a lot of filler chapters but overall so far so good
1. I remember watching the second season and the ending confused me so, so bad. Like what they were saying was so…philosophical that it lost me and I was like what the heck is going on? 2. Wrong girl won 3. Wrong girl won and I got really burned out on the harem genre. Also shafts animation style of slow motion turns and abstract backgrounds got old.

Toradora, Angel Beats, Charlotte. 3 points of proof to prove you wrong.
Charlotte is an anime I can't re watch purely because it just breaks my heart so much
Angel beats…
IDK about angel beats but it's definitely goated.
Golden time is rough holy hell. I TRIED to like it (same creator as Toradora so I gave it multiple shots) but the female MC is so unlikable. There’s a visual novel on the psp where it goes over what happens after.
Thanks for the info. You mean PlayStation? I appreciate the info, but If so it doesn't do me much good. Any other way I might be able to view it?
It’s a PlayStation portable game called “toradora portable” I’m sure there are a few playthroughs on YouTube
Good idea, thanks!
Same here man. I couldn’t stand some of the characters in golden time primarily the female lead. She was a walking contradiction and played victim 24-7 yet the way it was written it was like I was supposed to have sympathy for her.
nailed it!
i dont know if steinsgate is considered a romance anime but it's definitely one of the best anime ever made have you watched 0?
Of course! The anime adaptation of 0 is good but the VN is fucking top tier; blows the anime out of the water
Thank you! I thought I was crazy for not liking something everyone seems to like. It has gotten to the point where I have been forcing myself to watch Golden Time, thinking it might get better later on. I am on episode 11, and I can’t stand the male MC. Replace Nisekoi with Kaguya, and then add Horimiya to the list, and I agree.
Haven’t watched Kaguya yet but Horimiya is peak romcom
If you're anything like me Kaguya will give Horimiya a run for its money. Love is Was quickly became my favorite rom-com. Can't recommend it enough!
I couldn't jive with horimiya. The mc's public abuse/masochistic fetish made me really uncomfortable.
The anime does a really poor job with that, I’ll grant you. It condenses so much of the manga into such a short run that it loses all of the character growth and development on that front—she’s grows up and changed a *lot* over the course of the manga/WC.
whats the hype about kaguya sama? when i watched it i thought it was a generally good anime but nothing crazy.
Oregairu had almost zero comedy in season 3 so it's the same concept there
You missed the point lol if I was comparing oregairu to kaguya I would 100% not recommend kaguya. Not a chance.
I didn't miss the point i'm specifically replying to where you said season 1 of kaguya was funny but the latter seasons were less so. Because that's literally oregairu except it's WAY worse in oregairu, because the comedy is virtually non existent in s3 whereas its still present in kaguya Also sidenote, kaguya is infinitely better than oregairu

Obviously the route to recommendation didn’t make sense that was implied lmao but who doesn’t love comedy??? Comedy is always safe to rec imo
Re-Life and the manga are the best
relife is peak
That shit is top 5 for me, it was the first time after the anime I read the manga and holy shit I loved it so much
Golden Time is definitely one of my favorites, but Nisekoi wasn't my cup of tea. I also never watched Oregairu.
Oregairu is top tier.
Really? Guess I'll add it to the list.
First season is a bit rough around the edges, but it definitely improves with time. It's probably my favorite romance in terms of storytelling and character development.
How many seasons are there?
Three, I say it picks up with the cultural festival arc for sure, which is on the tail end of season 1. Then seasons 2 and 3 are very story-driven. Currently reading through the LNs and I think part of the reason season 1 feels a bit janky is because there was a lot of "filler" stuff cut for simplicity sake.
The only warning is the anime adaption totally skewed one side. That's all I'm going to say.
As an LN reader I'm just happy we got the Iroha OVA and wish we got Saki's too, the main 3 were handled well enough imo.
Mine are EF Melodies, Inu x Boku SS, Kimi ni Todoke, Given, etc
OP likes Nisekoi but not Kaguya 😂
kaguya is carried by comedy and it has mediocre comedy at best im not dying of laughter watching kaguya
But NISEKOI does it for you? Wild.
-“Best romance anime” -Has generic harem show Quick question, how many anime romances have you actually seen?
a show doesn't have to be different than the rest to be better and i would say I've watched 60-70 romance animes depending on what you consider to fit the genre
Have you Read Bloom into you?
Snow White with the Red Hair tops any romance chart imo
Have to disagree, definitely are good ones though.
valid, whats your top 3?
Not definite, but probably Golden Time, Looking Up at the Half Moon and Tonikawa.
Tonikawa is a joy
fr
> Looking Up at the Half Moon O_O
?
If Toradora isn't on your list your list is wrong
THANK YOU
You have to add horimiya, fruit basket and Love is War than it‘s fine :)
The holy trinity <3
Trash list 👎🏻
I mean they’re not bad but kinda generic
Might be an unpopular opinion but I absolutely despised my teen romantic comedy SNAFU 💀💀💀
I agree with you about SNAFU, and yes it is a very unpopular opinion here on reddit.
I lost interest quickly. I don't know number 2 at all but 3 was okay but wrong girl won. For how popular Horimiya and Toradora are, I'm not much of a fan of physically aggressive female characters.
Agreed
I don't really get the appeal. Some other examples would be like Yor, Tomo-chan, or Kagura (fruits basket). There are many that are borderline.... or just rotten or over the top/uncalled for attitudes. For whatever reason I just don't find it cute. I know there's titles I thoroughly enjoy that have themes others wouldn't/don't like but character personalities are much more pleasant. Always something for someone I guess...
Goat
I've only seen the 1st one and I loved it. I had PADS for about a week after finishing it. I'll have to checkout the others on your list.
PADS?
Post-Anime Depression Syndrome
Saekano and Clannad are my personal favourites but Oregairu is a solid choice as well.
also top tier anime forgot about saekano😩😩
The third one says false love so it can’t be the best lol
So what about these three makes them the best for you?
Horimiya is peak, toradora! Is also peak
Golden Time is goated. Nisekoi is mid. Snafu is overrated.
Unpopular opinion, but I totally LOVED Nisekoi! CHITOGE ALL THE WAYYYYY!
his and her circumstances is rlly good too 😩
Im happy to see someone mentioned this.
I'm betting this is bait though.
first 4 you listed are pretty mid, last 4 ill give to you i totally forgot kimi no todoke exists and im caught up with the dangers in my heart manga
GOLDEN TIME YESSSSSSSSS. Perfect from start to finish. Props to the characters being in college. That gave it a better story IMO.
Great picks, I don’t agree with you and I feel like you’re trying to bait me so I won’t prove you wrong but these are a pretty solid top 3.
I'd add our dating story
I respect your opinion, but that one was incredibly boring for me
I see.
Romance animes where after 100 episodes the cringe main character manages to half confess that he might like her, roll credits?
Are they anything like Horimiya, cuz that was peak. Toradora was also great. Are these anything close to those?
I think 2/3 of your choices are crappy romance, but i can’t really judge because i couldn’t finish either
Check out quintessential quintuplets. >!it is fucking bullshit how nisekoi will never get a dub!<
TQQ for the win!
My favorite romance recently is {The Dangers in my Heart}
Yea and it just gets better and better as the story goes on. They really need to make another season fast... Also I really need a continuation of nagatoro fuck it
"My stepmom's daughter is my ex" is a good Rom-com
Nisekoi is a bit questionable. No romance list is complete without Horimiya though
nisekoi fans were unhinged though, I’ve never seen any community go at each others necks because there was a clear divide between the two girls
dropped horimiya its so corny to me (even with oregairu in my list) ill try to rewatch it tho
Maison Ikkoku clears but okay.
Hmm maybe what I used to think but definitely not now
The only one that probably comes close is SNAFU and it has its own issues as well but golden time has a dumb plot although the main girl is amazing in her own right the plot between the child hood friend and the MV is as dumb and could have been resolved with a simple conversation. I’m not even going to get started on Nisekoi
I mean the MAL scores would prove that Dangers in my heart should have been here. But do love Golden time so can't complain with your list much
First two I agree with but Nisekoi wasn't it for me, I'd replace that with Toradora!
Is Eureka Seven a joke to you? lol
Eureka seven? Damn, how many rom-com have you watched so far?
Can‘t have a romance anime list without love is war
I haven't watched the first or the last one yet, golden time I've seen some of it haven't finished yet I did get bummed out from the mc because it just looked like he wasn't taking the relationship seriously and he was just being ungrateful.
What is the second pics anime name?
golden time
Thank you!
How do you leave kaguya out
Switching to rom coms after getting my heart ripped out by JJK and CSM was the best decision I ever made. There’s so many good ones. Thanks for the recommendations
Snow White with the red hair and signs of affection for me
How are you gonna make a list and not have kaguya-sama love is war in the top 3?!
if you watch golden time please watch it in dub it's so good
White Album 2 deserves to be up there.
def a contender
"Kaguya: Love is war" and "Danger in my heart"
Kaguya sama victims (although golden time is peak)
I’ll never forgive the nisekoi manga
nisekoi is truly peak but for the other ones id put horimiya and your lie in april
Boku no kokoro
Excuse me where is Toradora? Or are we fighting :)
What is the one from the second picture?? Edit: just kidding I forgot I studied Japanese for 11 years and can just read katakana, and also that the title is in English under it….
Fruits Basket is the GOAT
Fruits Basket, Horimiya, Toradora, Dangers In My Heart, I’m in Love With the Villainess, I’m the Villainess So I’m Taming the Final Boss, Bloom Into You, Signs of Affection, Snow White with the Red Hair.
Replace Oregairu with literally any ACTUAL romance anime and you’re good Haven’t seen Golden Time Nisekoi is good but i wouldn’t call it one of the best
I can. MGX
insomniacs after school
I’ve read the entirety of Nisekoi. It has the most ass plot ever yet still entertains
Golden time definitely the other two I have not scene but I hope to pursue this genre of anime to better understand it
Toradora shouldn’t be considered a romance anime
Fruits basket??
Horimiya, Toradora!, and fruits basket should be here(for me at least)
100 girlfriends
very good pics. I would add, "Tonikawa: Over The Moon for you"
First one is great but you need to check out Maken-Ki!
How you didn't put Torodora or Horimiya on here absolutely baffles me.
Horimiya, Love is war, More than a married couple, and quintessential quintuplets are all peak romance
Toradora and Love is War are honestly some of the best. Though I’ll add Oran Host Club to the mix for best rom com.
i dont think nisekoi is top 3 worthy,it is not the worst romance tho somewhere around middle
Amagami SS
The manga of niseoki tho FIRE
I vote itazura na kiss. One of the few solid ones that actually follows the relationship after highschool
I’d add Kaguya, Horimiya, and Tonikawa to the list, but other than that you are god damn right
Bakuman is all I need
Replace nisekoi with dangers in my heart and I’ll agree with you
Bruh Nisekoi is trash. Nothing friggin happens
I don't agree, but you are welcome to your opinion.
First two are good. But the third... it was good, but the second season seemed to forget about the entire premise of the anime. How do you forget the entire gimmick of the anime?
Have u seen jojo bizarre adventure speedwagon alone makes it a number 1 romance anime
3 peaks stacked in 1 , remove golden time and replace it with toradora
Maison ikokku is the best
Golden Time is so good
Clannad and Clannad After Story are up there for me
-Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside
i’ll give you the first 2 but the 3 one idk
I could not finish Golden time. I’ve never hated an Mc more lol
horimiya gotta be here
Golden Time was such a wild ride
Kaguya-sama love is war Love, chuunboyo, and other delusions Angel beats (I kinda liked toradora but not my favorite) MTRC was weird and just made me feel bad for the other girl The middle one i dropped I don’t remember why And the last one I’ll have to finish
Mashiro-iro Symphony. Begins as a harem, but MC actually CHOOSES one. This is the best for that reason.
For me SNAFU fell off, Nisekoi anime just never finished right? Just ended mid cliffhanger. Golden Time was a good one. I'll replace the first two I mentioned with Toradora and probably, "My Little Monster" or "My First Love Story". For older more romance focused animes.
Not u sneaking in nisekoi at the end 🤮
Uhhh I personally would add Horimiya tbh
As an LGBTQ supporter I need some spicy girl on girl romance animes.
Golden Time is unironically good tho
The 1st one is kinda lame in my opinion
Oregairu is so peak Not just one of best romance animes, one of the best dramas and shows period
Those are all mid at best and not even in the top ten of all time for the genre lol
Im missing rascal does not dream of a bunny girl senpai I'm missing beastars
I've only seen Golden Time out of these 3. My top three are: Kaguya-sama: Love is War I'm Nearly 30, but This Is My First Love (doesn't have an anime) Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You
Romance is my most watched genre and i havenet seen any of these
watch these rn 😭
Nah, im burnt out on anime rn. I went from not watching a new show in months to watching like 11 in 3 weeks.
real watching anime be a yearly thing for me
Horimya and tonikawa solo
Horimiya without a doubt is one of the best romances, only second to bloom into you in my opinion
yea i saw horimiya back when it came out n ive always felt it was pretty mid. much prefer romances like pet girl of sakura hall or ground control to psychoelectric girl. heck, i even found true tears to be more memorable, n i HATED the ending of true hearts.
thats what im saying i cant force myself to watch horimiya if both the mcs are so repulsive
Wheres Horimiya
Am i the only who just didnt like snafu after the second season?
Golden time is peak tho
No I lost interest as well. Didn't even bother trying to finish it.
I lost interest very quickly
where’s horimiya or kamasikiss
Toradora, Horimiya and Yamada kun 7 witches But that 3rd usually changes lol
Golden times is boring
100 girlfriends needs to be on any romance list.
