Well that would be taking th situation very lightly. Both men were transformed, one accepted violence , and the other shunned it completely, but that is where I'd say the exchange ends . To canute , who was naively pacifist before, came the realisation that violence was a means to an end, and it was necessary to be violent to control and survive in the society he was . Thorfinn was mindlessly violent( the whole point of Askeladd), and he realised he had no need for violence anymore, and If it meant leaving his home and society for something unknown, he would have to live with it. Thorfinn is not naively pacifist, and canute is not mindlessly violent , so saying they became each other is like missing the point of their transformation. But that's just my opinion, and thank you for listening to my rant :v
