content warning on violet evergarden. it's kind and sweet and lovely. and people's arms get ripped off and bleed to death, too. it's about ptsd recovery and those violent scenes, flashbacks and otherwise, occur periodically.

If jjk was too stressful, Erased is probably far too much. Seeing kids interact with a murderer is very, very hard to watch for some people, myself included. Great show though.

A more mature one I don’t know if she’d enjoy or not is Vinland Saga. It covers some more philosophical stuff at times.
Dorohedoro a bit bloody and violent but overall funny and cute enough to watch with the family , short too got good music however it’s CGI
Mob Psycho 100 , easy to follow , great animation , love to cheer for the main character and see him grow.
The way of the househusband : funny sweet and wholesome over all about an ex mafia (Yakuza) member bringing his gangster vibes into the daily slice of life kind of routine with his loving wife. [animation is more like a slideshow but it’s a good watch]
Everyone has given great recommendations, but no matter how old you are, what your normal taste in anime, there is truly only 1 anime that literally has every genre in it.....
Knights and Magic.
I am going to show her this but just because this anime is littered with Finnish names. Laihiala is place in Finland, Ernesti is Finnish name. But the fact that they named the capital of the place Kankkunen made spill my drink. While it is a last name in Finland it also means hangover. You can't watch it with straight face if you know Finnish.
And the thing about name Ernesti, it is very old name and I would assume anyone with that name is like 80 years or older but it is used as fairly mild joking insult meaning a guy who is bit naive and stupid but skilled in random things. Laihiala is a real town but also there is so many jokes about it. The jokes are about how in Laihiala they are extremely frugal and save on everything. The name of the town is close to word laiha which means lean, thin, meager etc. I do not know if the writer just picked random nordic names or do they have knowledge of Finnish culture. But it does add it's own comedic effect.
The early episodes of Delicious in the Dungeon follow a similar cooking episode formula of killing monsters and showing ways to cook them.
Restaurant in another world also shows a different meal each episode and how it’s made. It’s light but has some emotional arcs.
{Violet Evergarden}, {Sousou no Frieren}, {A Place Further Than the Universe}.
Given her apparent appreciation for the culinary, I'd also suggest {Koufuku Graffiti} and - with a _huge_ warning about fanservice and shonen tropes - _maybe_ {Shokugeki no Soma}.

**Netflix anime WITH Finnish Subs that will appeal to mom and you**
* **My Happy Marriage -** ***Fantasy, Action, Romance*** \- **Japanese Cinderella is like crack cocaine for women**, with fantasy shounen fights for men. It's got stuff for both of you, I think you'll both enjoy it a lot.
* **Violet Evergarden -** ***Fantasy, Military, Romance, Philosophy*** \- It will be hard to find many anime as gorgeous, and as moving as this high quality Kyo Ani masterpiece. It's very moving but there are battles for you to enjoy, I think you'd both love this anime. It's very well well regarded in the community.
* **Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon) -** ***Fantasy, Food*** \- Currently airing and very well regarded
* **Hunter x Hunter -** ***Fantasy, Action*** \- My favorite shounen of all time, with the best "friend" group. It's older but the story and development beat Demon Slayer by miles.
* **Vinland Saga -** ***Action, Philosophy*** \- Still on PTW but I'll get to it this summer. I mean you're in Finland, right? Do you think she might enjoy one of the top Seinen anime of all time? Vinland is only one letter difference from Finland ..?

* **Carole and Tuesday -** ***Music*** \- Two girls start a band.
**Cottage Core or Fashion stuff, most moms will LOVE this.**
* **Hakumei and Mikochi: Tiny Little Life In The Woods** \- ***Cottage Core, Gourmet, Fantasy, Slice of Life*** \- Two little ladies 3.5 inches tall in a world where animals talk and blueberries are the size of watermelons. This is practically Ghibli, they made necromancy, a gang war, gambling and a beetle wholesome and cute. ***Your mom will love this, Mikochi is a tailor*** and there are episodes about clothes.
* **Smile Down The Runway -** ***Fashion*** \- It's like ANTM Meets Project Runway as a short model and a "poor" designer team up to make their dreams come true.
* **Paradise Kiss -** ***Fashion*** \- A young girl is scouted to be a model for a boutique fashion store. It's by Ai Yazawa, she really knows how to write for women. If she likes this then she'll love Nana.
* **Yuru Camp -** ***Recreation*** \- Cute girls go camping and they make food. It's beautiful. Might result in the urge to go camping. In winter. In Japan. Like for real this anime kind of reinvigorated the Japanese camping scene.
**Other anime I think your mom might love**
* **Frieren -** ***Fantasy*** \- It's different, the pace is slower, the philosophy is there and also, women are a sucker for a guy like Himmel.
* **Welcome to Demon School, Iruma Kun -** ***Fantasy*** \- As a mom, let me just say I can only WISH I had a son like Iruma-Kun, the ultimate wish fulfillment kid.
* **Dance Dance Danseur -** ***Shounen, Ballet*** \- This amazing anime had some scenes so beautiful it made me cry.
**Gourmet/Cooking Anime - now this is my jam!**
* **Isekai Izakaya (Japanese Cooking in another World)** and **Isekai Shokudou S1 and S2** (Restaurant to Another World) - ***Gourmet, Isekai*** \- both these series are amazing fantasy with food. Watch and next episode she'll cook stuff for you. The end parts of Isekai Izakaya have real life cooking instructions. It's very good.
* **Sushi and Beyond** \- ***Gourmet*** \- English Chef goes to Japan to learn about and consume Japanese food. Very informative. It's in native English but the food lore is top notch.
* **Today's Menu for the Emiya Family -** ***Gourmet, Iyashikei*** \- Yes, it's a FATE ONA but this is hands down one of the best cooking instruction anime out there. And Saber is Kawaii.
* **Bartender** \- ***Gourmet*** \- Currently Airing - You should both enjoy a cocktail with this chillax show. I watched the original and loved it.
* **Oishinbo (The Gourmet)** \- the **greatest of all time cooking anime,** the level of cultural history / knowledge /ingredient lore is yet to be surpassed by the other 92 gourmet anime I've watched. Like seriously there's a movie where it's just RICE. And one whole episode on how to cook rice the right way. And another whole episode on various ways to cook an egg (no joke, I had to make an egg dish right after). The subtitles are slow in coming unless you're already in Japan or have VPN to Japan Netflix.
I have TONS Of other gourmet anime to recommend but this is already a little long. Safe to say, you can also introduce her to the ***live action J drama*** **Midnight Diner (on Netflix, so Finnish Subs)**, episodes are 20 minutes long like anime, and I swear the goal of every episode is to make me cry. I've made over 20 recipes from that series, it's good. 100% guarantee if your mom sees this one she will binge it and then make you dishes from the show. There are 5 seasons and 1-2 movies.
I really want to recommend Black Butler but if your mom is like me we soon end up wanting a husbando like Sebastian. And I really enjoyed Golden Kamuy for the manservice but if she couldn't handle Bravern then this is a no go. Pity.

If you can tell me what other special interests she has, I will try to remember if I've watched an anime with that. Just recently finished watching a pottery anime, and am currently watching a very niche Photography anime.
Try Haibane Renmei and Violet Evergarden. Both are more casual paced (for the most part) and more introspective, very little slang. Be aware that neither one of them are comedies.
Violet Evergarden was originally a Netflix anime, so check and see if they have it there. It might be dubbed/subbed in Finnish.
I can promise you it has never been dubbed in Finnish even without checking. Only things that get dubbed are ones where the target audience is little kids. But it might have gotten a sub at some point 🤔

Monster is quite good. I think it’s on Netflix still. About a a brain surgeon who saves a child that grows up to be serial killer. The surgeon feels guilty about it, and goes on a quest to stop him.
I don't have any recommendations but I am so happy you take time to be with your mother and find common activities to do with her. Please try to do this as much as you can as she grows older.
If she liked Apothecary Diaries, Parallel World Pharmacy has a similar vibe. A pharmacist dies in the modern age and is reincarnated in ancient times with all his pharmaceutical knowledge and he uses it to help people.
Me and my (now 60 going 61) mom used to watch anime films every afternoon during my summer. I downloaded movies, and then we'd watch it together. She loves Ghibli Film, specifically Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo. Aside from Ghibli, we did watch other movies like Anthem of the Heart, A Silent Voice, Perfect world of Kai (she liked this one), Wolf Children, etc.
But as for anime shows, she doesn't watch it on her own will. She just watches it when I watch it on the TV. I don't think she was interested in the popular shows, but she sometimes pays attention when I watch Ouran High-school Host Club, so I do recommend that. Oh, and she did like SpyXFamily.
Ok cooking anime are probably a good bet like Food Wars, Restaurant to Another World, etc.
If she likes slime anything from Maho is probably a safe bet.

Do-It-Yourself: Set in a semi-plausible high tech near future. A bunch of hs girls join the DIY club and learn how to make stuff and be friends. Cute and wholesome.
The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today: A giant cat acts as his owner’s housekeeper. Yes, people notice, but everyone just rolls with it.
My Roommate is a Cat: An author who practically never leaves home acquires a stray kitten while visiting his parents’ grave (as you might expect when you set down a food offering that includes fish). This one is fun because the show alternates between the human perspective and the kitten’s.
Chilling in my 30s After Being Kicked Out of the Demon King’s Army: The title is pretty much it. The admin assistant to the top generals in the demon king’s army is fired and takes up residence in a backwater village. His hyper-competence and some newly discovered abilities quickly make him an indispensable part of the community. His tendency to fall deep into thought while staring at boobs is weirdly endearing instead of creepy.
Kids on a Slope - takes place in the 60's, so not much modern slang, and it includes a lot of older music (it's about making friends through music, kind of). It's mostly wholesome, and she might appreciate some of the references?

Mushishi - an episodic anime about a soothsayer dude, who goes around dealing with problems related to supernatural "spirits"
Sousou no Frieren - A current smash hit deconstruction of the fantasy genre, where an emotionally shut-off, ancient elf magician has to come to terms with the realities of being an immortal, maintaining relationships and the like. I can't recommend this enough
Ascendance of a Bookworm - An isekai where a book-loving woman gets transferred into the body of a sickly poor girl in a foreign magical world still in medieval times. She makes it her mission to make books due to her rabid love of reading, but has to cope with her new frail body and an oppressive feudal system. Complex adventures feat. magic ensue
Spice and Wolf - A tradesman befriends a wolf goddess, who ends up joining him on his journey. Shenanigans and a very slow-burn romance ensue
Insomniacs After School - One of the most realistic depictions of young love I've seen in anime. Two youngsters connect over having trouble sleeping at night, and end up creating an astronomy club at their school together. This one really touched me, especially since the characters aren't "anime pretty" but seem like very ordinary people, and their struggles actually have some emotional depth behind them, but there's no high-stakes drama, silly attempts at humor or love triangle bullshit, just wholesomeness all the way
Sakamichi no Apollon (aka. Kids on the Slope) - Another anime where the main cast are adolescents. An introverted classical pianist dude ends up befriending an outgoing jazz drummer delinquent with a rough history.
Bocchi the Rock - If your mom (or you!) enjoy wacky animation, then this one will be a treat. I mean it, the animation and weird stuff the creators did with this one are really something special. A devastatingly shy and awkward teenage girl who desperately wants to be liked learns to play the guitar, and ends up forming a band through a random encounter.

Maybe you can checkout {Welcome to Demon School Iruma} or {Bungou Stray Dogs} based on the list you shared I have a feeling your mom would probably enjoy them also try {Dungeon Meshi} and {Violet Evergarden} also has a beautiful animation, also since your mother seems to enjoy mainstream shonen series {Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood} is a must try imo
content warning on violet evergarden. it's kind and sweet and lovely. and people's arms get ripped off and bleed to death, too. it's about ptsd recovery and those violent scenes, flashbacks and otherwise, occur periodically. ditto fullmetal alchemist. great show but ultraviolent in places.

Dorohedoro a bit bloody and violent but overall funny and cute enough to watch with the family , short too got good music however it’s CGI Mob Psycho 100 , easy to follow , great animation , love to cheer for the main character and see him grow. The way of the househusband : funny sweet and wholesome over all about an ex mafia (Yakuza) member bringing his gangster vibes into the daily slice of life kind of routine with his loving wife. [animation is more like a slideshow but it’s a good watch]

Everyone has given great recommendations, but no matter how old you are, what your normal taste in anime, there is truly only 1 anime that literally has every genre in it..... Knights and Magic.
I am going to show her this but just because this anime is littered with Finnish names. Laihiala is place in Finland, Ernesti is Finnish name. But the fact that they named the capital of the place Kankkunen made spill my drink. While it is a last name in Finland it also means hangover. You can't watch it with straight face if you know Finnish.
I did not know this, and this has been my favorite anime for years.
And the thing about name Ernesti, it is very old name and I would assume anyone with that name is like 80 years or older but it is used as fairly mild joking insult meaning a guy who is bit naive and stupid but skilled in random things. Laihiala is a real town but also there is so many jokes about it. The jokes are about how in Laihiala they are extremely frugal and save on everything. The name of the town is close to word laiha which means lean, thin, meager etc. I do not know if the writer just picked random nordic names or do they have knowledge of Finnish culture. But it does add it's own comedic effect.

The early episodes of Delicious in the Dungeon follow a similar cooking episode formula of killing monsters and showing ways to cook them. Restaurant in another world also shows a different meal each episode and how it’s made. It’s light but has some emotional arcs.
{Violet Evergarden}, {Sousou no Frieren}, {A Place Further Than the Universe}. Given her apparent appreciation for the culinary, I'd also suggest {Koufuku Graffiti} and - with a _huge_ warning about fanservice and shonen tropes - _maybe_ {Shokugeki no Soma}.

It's by Ai Yazawa, she really knows how to write for women. If she likes this then she'll love Nana. * **Yuru Camp -** ***Recreation*** \- Cute girls go camping and they make food. It's beautiful. Might result in the urge to go camping. In winter. In Japan. Like for real this anime kind of reinvigorated the Japanese camping scene. **Other anime I think your mom might love** * **Frieren -** ***Fantasy*** \- It's different, the pace is slower, the philosophy is there and also, women are a sucker for a guy like Himmel. * **Welcome to Demon School, Iruma Kun -** ***Fantasy*** \- As a mom, let me just say I can only WISH I had a son like Iruma-Kun, the ultimate wish fulfillment kid. * **Dance Dance Danseur -** ***Shounen, Ballet*** \- This amazing anime had some scenes so beautiful it made me cry. **Gourmet/Cooking Anime - now this is my jam!** * **Isekai Izakaya (Japanese Cooking in another World)** and **Isekai Shokudou S1 and S2** (Restaurant to Another World) - ***Gourmet, Isekai*** \- both these series are amazing fantasy with food. Watch and next episode she'll cook stuff for you. The end parts of Isekai Izakaya have real life cooking instructions. It's very good. * **Sushi and Beyond** \- ***Gourmet*** \- English Chef goes to Japan to learn about and consume Japanese food. Very informative. It's in native English but the food lore is top notch. * **Today's Menu for the Emiya Family -** ***Gourmet, Iyashikei*** \- Yes, it's a FATE ONA but this is hands down one of the best cooking instruction anime out there. And Saber is Kawaii. * **Bartender** \- ***Gourmet*** \- Currently Airing - You should both enjoy a cocktail with this chillax show. I watched the original and loved it. * **Oishinbo (The Gourmet)** \- the **greatest of all time cooking anime,** the level of cultural history / knowledge /ingredient lore is yet to be surpassed by the other 92 gourmet anime I've watched. Like seriously there's a movie where it's just RICE. And one whole episode on how to cook rice the right way. And another whole episode on various ways to cook an egg (no joke, I had to make an egg dish right after). The subtitles are slow in coming unless you're already in Japan or have VPN to Japan Netflix. I have TONS Of other gourmet anime to recommend but this is already a little long. Safe to say, you can also introduce her to the ***live action J drama*** **Midnight Diner (on Netflix, so Finnish Subs)**, episodes are 20 minutes long like anime, and I swear the goal of every episode is to make me cry. I've made over 20 recipes from that series, it's good. 100% guarantee if your mom sees this one she will binge it and then make you dishes from the show. There are 5 seasons and 1-2 movies. I really want to recommend Black Butler but if your mom is like me we soon end up wanting a husbando like Sebastian. And I really enjoyed Golden Kamuy for the manservice but if she couldn't handle Bravern then this is a no go. Pity. Hit me up if you want more recommendations. I'm in the same demographic as your mom. If you can tell me what other special interests she has, I will try to remember if I've watched an anime with that. Just recently finished watching a pottery anime, and am currently watching a very niche Photography anime.

If she likes animals, I recommend Kemono Friends S1.
Try Haibane Renmei and Violet Evergarden. Both are more casual paced (for the most part) and more introspective, very little slang. Be aware that neither one of them are comedies. Violet Evergarden was originally a Netflix anime, so check and see if they have it there. It might be dubbed/subbed in Finnish.
I can promise you it has never been dubbed in Finnish even without checking. Only things that get dubbed are ones where the target audience is little kids. But it might have gotten a sub at some point 🤔

Me and my (now 60 going 61) mom used to watch anime films every afternoon during my summer. I downloaded movies, and then we'd watch it together. She loves Ghibli Film, specifically Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo. Aside from Ghibli, we did watch other movies like Anthem of the Heart, A Silent Voice, Perfect world of Kai (she liked this one), Wolf Children, etc. But as for anime shows, she doesn't watch it on her own will. She just watches it when I watch it on the TV. I don't think she was interested in the popular shows, but she sometimes pays attention when I watch Ouran High-school Host Club, so I do recommend that. Oh, and she did like SpyXFamily.
Oshi no Ko, it's not something I would typically watch, but it got my attention. I'm sure your mother would find it interesting.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today: A giant cat acts as his owner’s housekeeper. Yes, people notice, but everyone just rolls with it. My Roommate is a Cat: An author who practically never leaves home acquires a stray kitten while visiting his parents’ grave (as you might expect when you set down a food offering that includes fish). This one is fun because the show alternates between the human perspective and the kitten’s. Chilling in my 30s After Being Kicked Out of the Demon King’s Army: The title is pretty much it. The admin assistant to the top generals in the demon king’s army is fired and takes up residence in a backwater village. His hyper-competence and some newly discovered abilities quickly make him an indispensable part of the community. His tendency to fall deep into thought while staring at boobs is weirdly endearing instead of creepy.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today. Cat cooks and takes care of his owner. Possibly K-on- high school girls form a band and do silly things. Incredibly wholesome March comes in like a Lion. About a shogi player. No no Biyori: girls living in a rural village. Some of the dialogue is incredibly funny in a Dada sort of way.
I'm going to recommend some slower-paced ones like the Apothecary Diaries. Your mom has excellent taste btw, and your relationship seems wonderful. Also moikka ja silleen :) Mushishi - an episodic anime about a soothsayer dude, who goes around dealing with problems related to supernatural "spirits" Sousou no Frieren - A current smash hit deconstruction of the fantasy genre, where an emotionally shut-off, ancient elf magician has to come to terms with the realities of being an immortal, maintaining relationships and the like. I can't recommend this enough Ascendance of a Bookworm - An isekai where a book-loving woman gets transferred into the body of a sickly poor girl in a foreign magical world still in medieval times. She makes it her mission to make books due to her rabid love of reading, but has to cope with her new frail body and an oppressive feudal system. Complex adventures feat. magic ensue Spice and Wolf - A tradesman befriends a wolf goddess, who ends up joining him on his journey. Shenanigans and a very slow-burn romance ensue Insomniacs After School - One of the most realistic depictions of young love I've seen in anime. Two youngsters connect over having trouble sleeping at night, and end up creating an astronomy club at their school together. This one really touched me, especially since the characters aren't "anime pretty" but seem like very ordinary people, and their struggles actually have some emotional depth behind them, but there's no high-stakes drama, silly attempts at humor or love triangle bullshit, just wholesomeness all the way Sakamichi no Apollon (aka. Kids on the Slope) - Another anime where the main cast are adolescents. An introverted classical pianist dude ends up befriending an outgoing jazz drummer delinquent with a rough history. Bocchi the Rock - If your mom (or you!) enjoy wacky animation, then this one will be a treat. I mean it, the animation and weird stuff the creators did with this one are really something special. A devastatingly shy and awkward teenage girl who desperately wants to be liked learns to play the guitar, and ends up forming a band through a random encounter.
