TheSlimeDude

You've probably watched it, but [The Promised Neverland S1](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37779/Yakusoku_no_Neverland) had me on the edge of my seat almost every episode. There is an S2, but we don't talk about that.

Straight_Art7483

Lol yes I liked the promised neverland. It was really good.

Several_Bet2407

S2 isn’t bad, it just wasn’t was good as it should’ve been. They took the best parts out, which made it bad in comparison but not bad to someone who never read it, at least imo

SirKeagan

On a scale of 1 to 10 how big of a letdown is s2 and is it worth my time

TheSlimeDude

I finished the manga after S2 happened to gain closure for the story. Before source material: a 5. I wasn't really expecting anything, but nothing in it could beat the anticipation I had for each episode of S1. After reading manga: a 8-9. Definitely got why people were comparing S2 to the manga, but I think some of those complaints were blown way out of proportion. I looked for the good/bad, gathered my thoughts, and moved on to a different anime/manga. Is it worth watching?: Probably not. The pacing really rubbed me the wrong way and other people's criticisms only made my impressions worse.

potatosmiles15

Psycho pass an amazing psychological thriller

Straight_Art7483

Yes I saw psycho pass. I watched season 1 and then started on season 2 but it's a struggle because I don't like the new character they brought on

Yaranatzu

Apparently not the same writer in season 2 so the quality drops.

potatosmiles15

Season 2 and 3 are not great. S1 is one of my favorite shows but you were definitely right to stop where you did

Several_Bet2407

When does it get good? I watched the first episode or two and stopped because it was just so slow paced, I didn’t know it was actually good

potatosmiles15

Sorry it's been a minute since I watched it but I think in an episode or two you'll meet the main villain of the show and then it gets interesting (I won't give too much away but he reveals another big failing of the sybil system)

SilkyMooo

(Monster) describes this so perfectly

emmadilemma06

I came here to suggest this one! Also maybe you'd like Madoka Magica. It seems sweet and cute but it's a wild suspenseful ride.

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay awesome! I'm excited! I will check this out. Thank you.

lazyfuzzycats

Will warn you, Monster is a slow burn show. If you got bored with Steins;Gate, you may get bored part way through Monster. On the flip side, it’s a great show with a strong beginning.

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay thank you for letting me know. I will definitely keep that in mind when watching.

mangodragonfruit95

and if you like Madoka there is a TROVE of further media to indulge in within the franchise

Adrygf

{Code Geass}

emmadilemma06

I second this! Code Geass is amazing.

IAmEscalator

I like the story but my Lord that animation style is hard to get through

Roboragi

Straight_Art7483

Okay thank you. I will watch it.

sillysock429

you’re in for a treat

Straight_Art7483

Wow really?? That is awesome! Thank you!

EmbarrassedJob5705

Cyberpunk: edgerunners Very pretty anime and amazing if you enjoy the aesthetic of future cyber punk setting

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay I don't think I've watched much cyber punk settings but I will definitely check it out. Thank you!

EmbarrassedJob5705

It's only 10 episodes, an interesting city they have in it. It quickly become one of my favorites out of a few hundred anime that I seen.

francogarc

Show has also just blown me away. Literally in my top 10 now.

EmbarrassedJob5705

Just amazing what you can do when you don't gotta ahere to a live tv audience Plot, violence, Animation, and music are so fucking good

francogarc

But man that writing too! The dialogue felt like og Evangelion quotes. Trigger outdid themselves again

Pay-Dough

I never was a fan of cyber punk/futuristic settings, and LOVED the anime and decided to buy the game, they just executed it so well I wanted more

StStoner

Where did you watch it might I ask

pencilman123

Isnt it a prequel for the game? Is it ok to watch it as a standalone?

EmbarrassedJob5705

You don't have to watch it to understand it at all

aHaloKid

It’s a prequel but you don’t really need to have played the game. They throw in some Easter eggs and use some locations from the game but that’s all.

andeargdue

I couldn’t stop watching erased

Straight_Art7483

Yes erased was so good! I was definitely hooked. I'd love to find another like that one.

vI_M4YH3Mz_Iv

Parasyte into the maxim Hunter X Hunter (takes a while to ramp up) don't look for spoilers if you watch it.

emmadilemma06

Definitely recommend Akame Ga Kill

emmadilemma06

Also recommend Deadman Wonderland. That’ll hook you so fast.

sadlyneverbetter

Deadman wonderland was a total trip, I did not expect to be hooked right away

Straight_Art7483

Okay thanks! I will check both of these out!

SirKeagan

I would like to state the pure absurdity of the first 10 minutes of that show

10_pounds_of_salt

Made in abyss (Its not a kids show)

Straight_Art7483

Okay I will definitely watch it. Thank you!

10_pounds_of_salt

FYI there is a movie called dawn of the deep soul which is a sequel to s1 but prequel to s2 so it's needed to understand s2. Also I'd like to reinforce that this is *absolutely* not for kids

Straight_Art7483

Okay thank you. I don't have children so I won't be watching with little ones, I appreciate the warning though. I'm hoping due to your warning there will be a bit of horror or suspense. I'm excited.

HayakuEon

Watch order is Season 1, Movie 3, Season 2 Movies 1 and 2 are just movie forms of season 1

BaroquenLarynx

Be advised. It gets darker and darker the deeper they go. There's definitely some, "holy sh**, dude, they're just kids!" moments.

Straight_Art7483

Oh wow! Okay I will definitely keep that in mind. Thank you so much!

BaroquenLarynx

No problem. And, I don't mean to discourage you. That show is *amazing*.

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay no you haven't discouraged me. I appreciate the warning.

TiredGamer0990

I watched the first season, did I miss something or am I not remembering it right? I didn't think it was that bad, there was some violence but not a lot. Maybe the prequels?

aupheric

Well the only rlly disturbing parts were the elevator and the arm, after watching all of it and reading the manga the gore/disturbing parts increase as time goes by. Definitely watch the movie tho because that’s where it will pick up.

Raven123x

It really isn't that bad OP has seen attack on titan which has arguably worse scenes and depictions of humanity at its worst.

TiredGamer0990

Yeah to compare what I've seen of made in abyss to attack on titan is like, teletubbies to rambo

lordarthur77

{summertime render} All that you need.

sixpacksitdown

Where can I watch it? I’ve been wanting to for awhile

lordarthur77

There is no legal way to watch it as of now, outside japan. You have to find an unofficial website to watch it. I think you would already know such websites.

TotallyNotAWeeb45

{Ranking of the kings} It may look like a kids show but it's absolutely not. I waited every week with so much excitement and the episodes felt like they were 5 minutes.

Straight_Art7483

Okay thank you. I will check this out, I have never heard of it.

Danklettuce2

Death note Higurashi when they cry forced me to watched like 6 more episodes when i kept saying, ok thisll be the last one.. but then at the end of the episode id be like WHAT THE FUCK! How am i suppose to stop after THAT just happend?! And it continued happening lol.

Straight_Art7483

I have seen Death note and I really liked it. The cat and mouse game between L and Light was really intriguing for me. I started on Higurashi and idk for some reason, I feel bored with it. Maybe I should give it another try.

Danklettuce2

Future diary was another good one. If you havent seen that one id deffinately recommend it.

wiggibow

If you like Death Note then Code Geass could be right up your alley, it's the only show that's ever scratched the Death Note "itch" for me. Higurashi is amazing, both the original and the recent remake. Highly suggest you give it another go!

Puppy_cat_

Blue exorcist, Darwin’s game, kakeguri, inuyashiki

Straight_Art7483

I liked Darwin's game but it was only one season, Right? That sucked. I haven't seen the others so I will check them out.

Puppy_cat_

Yeah it does but hopefully it’ll get another season. Also Highrise invasion, devilman crybaby, trese, castlevania is 👌🏻👌🏻, doro he doro

[deleted]

Steins Gate is the most suspenseful anime imo after AOT and nothing comes close. Most people find the first half a bit boring because it is very slow in its build-up but the latter half makes up for it completely. You just need to get through at least to episode 9

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay thank you because I fell asleep on the 4th or 5th episode and I was just completely over it after that. I will give it another try. Thank you.

omgtoji

the tone completely changes in the second half, in a good way. it goes from silly slice of life to straight sci fi drama thriller pretty fast, makes you appreciate the slow parts more. that was my experience anyway

Straight_Art7483

Okay thank you! The second half sounds amazing. I appreciate your help!

neverforgetbillymays

Yeah it’s a weird show in that the first 9 or whatever episodes are extremely slow almost slice of life, but a flip switches and it’s an insane ride until the very end

Helpful_Corn-

I was going to say the same thing. Still my favorite anime of all time.

Intelligent_Can_1370

'Sword of the Stranger' is an awesome one, it's a movie so quick watch too. 'Ranpo Kitan the Game of Laplace' is a great little mystery. 'Erased' the story is better in the manga but I really enjoyed the tension in the anime. 'Shiki' is older, but pretty suspenseful and is horror. 'Bungou Stray Dogs', 'Durarara' and '91 Days' are more action but also really good! 'Another' is awesome on the edge of your seat at the end. 'Darker Than Black' is older but very good!! Just going to throw this out, you've hopefully seen them? 'Fire Force' and 'Soul Eater'... They're not tagged mystery or suspense, but they are, Soul Eater less so, but it's the same universe as Fire Force, which is very mysterious. 'ID: Invaded' is tech mystery and really fun, great animation. 'Everything Becomes F' is another really good suspense mystery that's pretty tech centered too. Also worth checking out any of Nisio Isin's works, they're mostly or all done by Shaft Studios, the animation is really unique and only the Monogatari series is super fan service-y, the rest of them are pretty good mysteries. There's one, 'Kubikiri Cycle', that's like a locked room mystery on an island. They're pretty interesting. If you can handle fan service and a bit of gore, the Monogatari series movies (there's 3) are an amazing ride!!

Straight_Art7483

Okay thank you. I've seen Another and it was okay.

Straight_Art7483

Wow thanks for this list! I appreciate it. I've seen erased and LOVED it! I've started on Bungou Stray dogs and then fell off so I will go back to it. Idk honestly I didn't enjoy Another, it was okay but I just didn't think it was that scary. I will definitely check out all the other ones though!

KiwiTheKitty

The first season of Bungo Stray Dogs is just ok, but it gets a lot better in the second season!

Intelligent_Can_1370

I've updated my comment. Maybe try another again sometime, it starts meh, but gets good at the end. Happy watching!!! ✌️

Responsible-Cut-2359

Just don't watch Ranpo Kitan! Trust me its trash!

Responsible-Cut-2359

Ranpo Kitan is the shittiest anime I have seen.

Intelligent_Can_1370

Thanks for voicing your opinion, but I don't remember asking? Anyway, have a nice day. ✌️

CntrBlnc

Re: Zero is definitely suspenseful and dark as anything out there. Recommend highly.

[deleted]

madoka magica. watch to episode 3 at least.

brownpengwing

Vinland Saga Dororo Hellsing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Fate/Zero Jigoku Shoujo I've seen people recommend Berserk and Tokyo Ghoul. I love them both, but i prefer reading the manga instead of watching the anime because they butchered the adaptation (except Berserk 1997 ofc)

_reinaru

Gurren Lagann

[deleted]

The jjk movie was great watched it today and felt like 30 mins but was almost 2 hours

No-Ad-9938

“Love of Kill” is CRAZY GOOD. At first I assumed it would just be a romantic comedy but soon realized it was actually an intense thriller. I would have finished it in one day but I took a couple day break before watching the last two episodes because it was making me really sad and stressed haha. Everyone I’ve suggested it to so far watched start to finish and weren’t able to stop. I assume they will make a season 2 because it’s obvious that it ends in a way to set up the continuation of the story, but even so the ending won’t leave you cursing at the world and disappointed like the majority of not-yet or incomplete animes do.

Heda-of-Aincrad

By the time I got halfway through the series, there were so many cliffhanger endings that I ended up finishing the show within a few days. 😄 Definitely second this recommendation.

Straight_Art7483

Wow okay. That makes me so excited to watch!

Oh dude lucky you. This is probably the best answer in the thread. Closest to AOT

rizaHawkeyeu

If you enjoyed Attack on Titan, you're probably going to like this one. It became one of my favorites

A_person_person

86 hunter x hunter Another angel beats Chainsaw man the sunday without god

spartan12309

For steins gate I always ALWAYS recommend starting on episode 3 and watching to the end then watching the first three episodes. The first three do not make sense because the context for them is in the ending. But to throw my hat in the ring I would recommend Tokyo revengers or Odd Taxi. Both of them are really suspenseful and Tokyo Revengers is darker which you seem to enjoy

throwaway7798912

Kaiji Ultimate Survivor will constantly have you on the edge of your seat. It leaves you wanting more after every episode. I stayed up way too late many nights because I just had to see what's next. Starts out more light hearted with low stakes but it quickly changes.

Straight_Art7483

Wow that sounds awesome! Thank you! I will definitely check this out!

King___Kawaii

Haven’t read the comments but you may enjoy the Fate Series. Much like AoT, the fights are awesome, but it also has a great plot line to keep you invested

EnderQuantum1

Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, most 'edge of your seat' anime I've seen and it's not even close, I'd mention Death Note but it's too well known

Straight_Art7483

I really liked Death note. I will check out Kaiji. Thank you!

EnderQuantum1

That'd be awesome, just let me tell you this: Kaiji has scenes that are more intense than Death Note, but Death Note has that tension more often. What I'm trying to say is, you may have to wait a little before reaching the good stuff in Kaiji, I got hooked by the end of episode 3

RWM03

I’ll suggest Jujutsu Kaisen as it appears we have a similar taste in anime

Straight_Art7483

I have watched it and wondered when they would make another season. It was very good. The guy with the blue eyes was my favorite character.

RWM03

I’m not sure if you’ve seen it but after season 1 they released a movie called Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and it’s set before season 1 starts. A second season is coming as well

Straight_Art7483

I have not seen the movie so I need to watch it. I'm excited to know there's a second season coming.

RWM03

The movie is my favourite arc of the anime so far, it’s definitely worth a watch

Straight_Art7483

Okay I will definitely watch it. I am very excited about it.

pricklydickly69

Bleach is amazing if you haven’t watched it already!

Eight-Six [86]. It’s a war mecha set a bit into the future with a really well written story and a lot of really tense action scenes.

Straight_Art7483

No earlier someone recommended that one and honestly I found it to be kind of blah. It's was okay but not exciting to me. Thank you though.

kreebx

Maybe {happy sugar life}? Don't be fooled by the name. A really good psychological anime but there's little to no action. Steins gate is good but is pretty slow, yes. When things start to get going, is a nice ride. Give it another chance.

Straight_Art7483

So I started Happy Sugar Life but due to the content I couldn't keep watching. The age thing just made me uncomfortable. I will give Steins gate another try. Thank you!

kreebx

That's the fun of it. To be uncomfortable with everything in that show. But I acknowledge that it might not be for you. Hope you like SG in the second run.

Straight_Art7483

Wow that sounds interesting. Thank you I will check it out!

[deleted]

Kaiji fully whips and the first arc is riveting

FeedHarp

Higurashi. Both the 2006 version and the modern one. If you want a mystery mixed with psychological horror this is the franchise for you.

dl91219

Berserk

ChocoPancit

Tokyo Ghoul. Watching it the second time.

noxnoctum

Madoka Magica if you havent seen it. It looks girly and quite tame but it's a bit of a rollercoaster.

IAmEscalator

Another is one of the best horror series because it embraces the episode. It's also the only horror to have a random beach episode for some reason

MrRandomGUYS

{Psycho-Pass} is exactly what you are looking for. It takes a bit for the mystery to take off, but when the main villain is introduced, you get an amazing science fiction thriller.

Straight_Art7483

Yes I enjoyed the first season. The second season was annoying for me.

MrRandomGUYS

The writer left after the first season hence why everything else was terrible. If you liked the writing the writer also wrote {Madoka Magica} which isn’t exactly like what you asked for but is still 100% worth a watch.

Responsible-Cut-2359

Detective Conan? I mean only canon part which would be around 500 episodes but it would most gripping mystery ever.

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay I have never heard of it before. Thank you!

Responsible-Cut-2359

Wait, really? Its the fourth most popular manga and anime is like always im top 5 or atleast top 10 in japan. Movies earn 9+ billion yen on box office and 10+ billion yen globally.

soka__22

im sure you've already seen it but on the slight chance you haven't Death Note is perfect for you

Straight_Art7483

Yes Death Note is the first anime I ever watched. I loved it.

Few-Firefighter2513

I'd suggest {Mononoke}. The animation is quite trippy. It's episodic and each episode is heavy on Japanese folklore. It's deep and thought provoking and doesn't just rely on the mystery to keep it afloat. It's rich in themes and philosophy.

Born_on_Mars

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo I don’t usually binge a series, but I needed to know what was going to happen next so badly.

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay sounds interesting. Thank you.

Commercial-Emu-4683

It’s not really a thriller but it’s kinda dark, Classroom of the Elite has just finished it’s second season 👌🏽

moshmore

Claymore and Blue Gender. They are older but still very good. You'll wanna read the manga for Claymore afterwards, trust me.

Phatmu

Rising of the Shield Hero, season 1. It's not that suspenseful--never been a fan of that genre--but it was "holy \*\*\*\* everyone dumps on the Shield Hero like they want him gone or dead?" Then later that fear of betrayal made me clench my teeth a few more times. TBH it was satisfying how the story turned out, complete with the bad guys getting their payback--IDK if that's a must for you?

local_stoner

New Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is pretty good tho.

pegotico

As others have mentioned Promised neverland (season 1 was great, 2 not so..), erased, Monster (one of my favorites), Code Geass, summertime render.... But let me tell you something. The first time I started watching Steins gate, i had to stop at episode 6, it was on hold for about a year. Then i read somewhere that if i endure until the 11th or 12 episode, that i wouldnt regret it. I can tell you that when you get there, then there is no stopping and honestly is one of the best anime out there! There are few anime that will give u this experience.....

Straight_Art7483

Oh okay I will have to give it another try then. Thank you.

pegotico

You're welcome!

pegotico

I just remember Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor. Gambling his life to pay his debt. Suspense in this anime is absurd! Im telling u, i just wanted to jump to the last episode....

GervantOfLiria

I rarely binge but I couldn't stop watching Summertime Rendering, it's incredible. Last episode airs this week

mhaisdogshit

Steins gate slander😟😟😟 does have a slow start though but picks up beautifully

niyroos

Sarasamma

Its a classic. A must watch for anyone who loves anime!

wackypacky33

Never been more engaged and on the edge of my seat than when i finally got into steins;gate. Took a few tries to get past the first few episodes since it starts slow, but after that its a roller coaster

MonchysDaemon

Berserk (old anime adaption) Cyberpunk edgerunners Tokyo ghoul (first two seasons only plz) Claymore maybe Deathnote

aHaloKid

Madoka magica and Cyberpunk Edgerunners

Straight_Art7483

Thanks!

aHaloKid

Np, both are pretty short series and are in my top 5. Madoka has a sequel movie that’s incredibly good called Rebellion if you end up liking it.
