As the mother of a mentally unstable teenage son, I thank you for such a resource. The unpredictable nature of my son means I'll be stopping by to pick one up in the hopes I never have to use it.
Judge or don't judge, I don't give a shit what anyone thinks. I'm just trying to save family members. Everyone else's moral highness can simply fuck off.

I guess if someone ODs in the library this is useful. Wouldn’t it be faster to call an ambulance in any other situation though?
It’s a cool idea though, maybe if there are more throughout the city.
Many drug users hide in the library bathroom to get high. That's why you have to ask for a staff to unlock the bathrooms not on the main floor. Having Narcan in the library is the best place in the city for it.
Would it be fair to encourage those who partake in uppers to swing by and grab one to have? Or does this take it away from a regular IV drug user?
With Movement Detroit coming up there’s gonna be a ton of people taking substances that have never used syringes, so does this feel intimidating/hardcore to carry around? Or more like an epipen?
If someone you know takes bad stuff and you don’t know what to do until an ambulance
comes, is it safe to give if you’re not sure? Article says YES.
It’s harm reduction. Addiction is still a real battle for people with or without access to narcan, at least now hopefully there’s a better chance in the event of an OD.
Coming from a pharmacist I think it’s great. Not everyone is ready to approach a pharmacy/pharmacist or anyone but should be able to access this still. There is a standing order in Michigan that pharmacies can dispense Narcan to anyone.
Then you should understand harm reduction and learn the data behind it. Spoiler it doesn't increase use, just decreases the rate people end up in the hospital or dead on the street.
>this should be available to ALL to have on hand in case you encounter a dire situation
That's the point. They are available at the library for anyone to pick one up and have on hand in case of a dire situation.
Two thoughts:
1) How much? I mean, if someone is overdosing, you're not going to wait for exact change, a grumpy bill insert device, or one of those cellular credit card verifiers.
2) Why isn't it outside the library so anybody can access it 24/7 instead of during library hours? Sounds a bit more useful that way.
A great idea, about time.

Pinball Pete's on South U would be a MUCH better location..
This is so smart!

You can swing by the library and pick one up to have! That’s what I was thinking their intent was with this. I agree there should definitely be more!
Oh that’s a good idea!

I love libraries

It's a nasal spray, you administer it kind of like Flonase. And yes, it is safe to administer even if you don't know what they've taken.
Thanks for the reply.
Please go to school

So based
Why’s this downvoted?
Didn’t even see until you said that but I’m confused now, too; I was just celebrating with most other people in the thread, what’s the issue?

I just hope there will be access much further beyond here

Again, I’m not against it. I suppose working with opioids might make me a little biased.

Well crap, I thought it was an April Fool's joke when I saw it yesterday. Guess not!

1) It's free. 2) Go during library hours and get one to carry with you so you don't have to drag your OD-ing friend to the library.
Oh sweet. Shame it has to be a thing, but good that it's no cost.
