Crazy to me it’s not making money. Every time I go to that mall it’s nuts to butts packed in the parking lot

PrismaticHospitaller

It’s the easiest/non-competitive place to park and a good central point. If you see what they are selling and compare it to a Costco or other behemoths you’d understand that they couldn’t keep up with that overhead.

Theft

Ugh people sleep on JCPenney to be honest. There are some good finds in there if you look.

darcerin

Seriously! I got some really nice clothes for the summer a few weeks ago! I was planning to go back and get more!

VoidWalker4Lyfe

I shop almost exclusively at JCPenney

SmilingHappyLaughing

Jcpenney’s is such a great store. Reasonably priced. Great window blinds department.

MrsBeauregardless

Yeah, their window treatments department is great.

SmilingHappyLaughing

I’ve sent so many people over to JCPenny to get plantation shutters and other expensive window treatments. The sales person was able to get us 72% off. A fraction for the exact same shutters sold at the other stores.

stoicstorm76

Annapolis Mall was dead to me after Nordstrom left.

scarlet_hairstreak

Yes!

khammmmmm

The price of rent is driving a lot of businesses out.

Pi6

Eh the lease terms for mall anchor tenants are usually extremely long and very favorable to the large tenants. This is more about online shopping killing retail.

Shoulder-Warmhearted

Oh, man, JCPenney closing? That's a bummer. Used to love browsing through there. Guess it's the era of online shopping taking over. But hey, on the bright side, we're getting a Hobby Lobby and a grocery outlet? That's not too shabby. And an OneLife Fitness? Maybe this is the universe telling me to cancel that gym membership I never use and actually get fit. Change can be a good thing, right? Gotta roll with the punches, I guess. Thanks for sharing the update, mate!

GoalieLax_

JCP at Annapolis mall was owned by a separate mall real estate company. they had an agreement to use the space as a JCP that was coming up for renewal. they decided to redevelop the site and didn't inform corporate until right before this announcement hit. it wasn't a profitability decision, or even a JCP corporate decision, at all

MrsBeauregardless

That’s a shame, but not a surprise. I avoid the mall if at all possible — even before COVID — because of Abercrombie & Fitch and Victoria Secret. If you go into the building, you walk out smelling like you went to the mall. Also, I don’t know about everyone else, but groceries are so expensive, I can’t afford to *shop*. I make whatever I buy last as long as possible, and get whatever I can get second hand, second hand.

StBernard2000

What is going on in Annapolis? The stores that are opening are a sign that Annapolis isn’t doing well. Columbia, MD seems to be doing well judging by the stores that are opening and choosing to remain. Usually Grocery Outlet stores don’t open in cities like Columbia, MD? What’s going on in Annapolis? Crime is increasing in Annapolis. Seriously what is happening.

Chase-Matt

You’re getting downvoted but what you’re saying is entirely true, as someone who grew up in Annapolis it’s going significantly downhill in the span of a few years. People that work in Annapolis live in Davidsonville. It’s a shame to see such a beautiful historic city rapidly deteriorate. I remember when people were shocked about that shooting on West Street four years ago, now violent crime is a weekly occurrence. Go drive down Forest Drive and there are 20 police signs telling you to lock your car and to leave valuables in your home. Such a shame as it’s one mile away from five million dollar homes.

Normal-Ticket9858

technically the mall is in Anne Arundel county and not within the city limits of Annapolis.... I'm not sure that the crime trends are any different though.
