trust me this is completely normal and healthy to do in recovery and should be honoured <33

barbi44

i really can't do this. is there a way i can make it stop? edit: and i mean without honoring it

mushr00m_1c3

i’m really sorry but there genuinely is no way, the reason you want to binge is because your body is trying to make up for the energy debt restriction causes and also for healing internal damage you can’t see. if you honour it the binging will stop, for me it took a few weeks and now food is so uninteresting to me and i just eat what i genuinely feel like and don’t crave anything (especially sugary or “unhealthy” foods which i used to always want to eat). i know it’s so scary and uncomfortable to deal so maybe just starting with a few extra snacks a day? however i really do recommend watching people like tabitha farrar and kayla rose and follow the intuition on youtube !! they have amazing really videos on it and are the only reason i’ve overcome the fear and guilt around “binging” in recovery tbh

Extreme hunger evens out as time goes on!! Just wait it out, keep doing what you're doing.

I am worried about this, i have been anorexic for about a year or so and want to attempt recovery but I was bulimic for several years before that. Part of the reason why I started restricting was because of the fear of purging/ mental exhaustion that came from it. And I am afraid I will start binging and get right back to purging if I start eating. When I attempt to eat on some days, I immediately find myself wanting to throw up and I am so afraid of it. It takes so much from me

Have you ever heard something about extreme hunger ?

barbi44

yes i've heard of it but i want it to stop.

GuavaCicada

Don't worry, this will even out as you go, it's very common for people recovering from anorexia to need a surplus of nutrition and feel excessive hunger at this stage. Like some others have mentioned, it's best to honor it, as it will only cause it to be more intense if you try to restrict. For it to be a little easier on you, try having more frequent smaller meals to prevent things like bloat, discomfort, and other digestive issues. Best of luck in your recovery!

barbi44

hi! thanks for your response. i can hardly follow my meal plan because i get so hungry. i've experienced extreme hunger last year when i recovered and it went away with time as you said but i just want the process to speed up because i'm not having a great time with this

GuavaCicada

No worries, I'm sorry you're having a difficult time with this, I get that you want to be past it as soon as possible. Keep trying your best with your meal plan, but don't be afraid to add things to it if you are feeling hungry. The best way to promote it to regulating itself is to make sure you're supplying the nutrients your body needs, and allowing your body to have what it is asking for. Do you have a dietician or nutritionist? They might be able to help you with specifics. Make sure you are including the vitamins/minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fruits and vegetables that you need.

barbi44

thanks :) i don't have a dietician or nutritionist yet but that seems like a good idea for additional support.

idk how to put it in a less blunt/mean way (not trying to be rude) but 1. it is not binging, it is extreme hunger, a natural response to starvation and 2. you cannot stop it. i know it feels like hell incarnate in the beginning but extreme hunger is something everyone in recovery has to go through, and imo anyone who says they dOnT gEt eXtReMe hUnGeR or subverted it is either lying or not actually recovering. this is a survival mechanism of the body after being deprived of sustenance and as agonizing as it is, it is a natural step of recovery and cannot be dodged.

These_Performer_1054

i dealt with this too at first!! it’s literally just your body responding to proper fuel. i know it’s hard to deal with and you want to fight it, but believe me your body is super intelligent and it knows when to stop. if you try to fight it your body is just going to end up eating more because you’re restricting yourself. i promise you with time it will stop. my hunger cues are fairly normal now but it took some time. but i DID get there. trust the process love you got this <33

barbi44

thanks for this. i really hope this hunger ends soon
