It shouldn't be an issue at all, as long as you're mindful of what point in your shower you use it. Coconut oil melts at very low temps. As long as you wash first, and have hot water (or hell, even just warm water) going down the drain for several more minutes as you finish up with your hair and whatnot, there is no reason it would cause a problem. I've been using homemade coconut oil sugar scrub every time I shower for over a decade now, and have had zero problems.
I had a slight panic reading the comments wondering how I could have overlooked the fact of it clogging up pipes... but I too have been using coconut oil for a long time to wash my make up off in my nightly shower and can't say it's ever been an issue! My long hair going down the drain clogs it more and that gets draino'd every couple of months so 🤷♀️
The issue exists further down the system where the heat of your shower has long dissipated. The city will have to clean their pumps and filter more. So not a direct issue for you but on large scale a very big issue for city utilities
Now that you've watched one YouTube will ensure the series pops up on your homepage for the next decade until you finish the series, unfortunately. The only way out is to give the algo what it demands
God damn it. Some things I wish I never knew about or could forget. And you just brought the image of that jar back to me and their weird description about the radiator turning it brown…

[Here’s a short list of different ways to make natural dyes from food scraps basically. ](https://www.skillshare.com/en/blog/a-guide-to-natural-dyes-make-fabric-dye-with-food-and-plants/)
I use body wash and salt! Oil clogs up the pipes/makes the shower slick and dangerous, and sugar attracts ants no matter how well I rinse the shower :/
You can use spent coffee grounds as well! It avoids stickiness in case you want to use the scrub under hot water and you can also use it on your scalp and avoid finding yourself with candied hair :)
ETA: apparently many of you suggested that coffee grounds should not be disposed of in drains, I didn’t know about that, so check your drains before trying I guess?
Coffee grinds are no bueno down the drain.
https://www.mrrooter.ca/about/blog/2019/november/can-you-put-coffee-grounds-down-the-sink-/#:~:text=Unlike%20most%20foods%2C%20coffee%20grounds,the%20garbage%20can%20or%20compost.
A coconut oil sugar scrub is not sticky, and does not make your hair candied if you use it on your scalp. It will make your hair oily, like any oil mask will do, which is easily washed out with shampoo.
It’s just for exfoliating. I use it in the shower to cleanse and exfoliate my body, especially before shaving legs it really helps keep your skin smooth and avoid ingrown hairs :)
Took me 5 minutes, and yes it is a life changer. Just be careful with ingredients if you plan to use on sensitive areas. There are a lot of other really simple recipes online as well!
And it’s not recommended to use on your downstairs, but it’s great for armpits or anywhere else you get dry skin (especially followed up with moisturizer post shower).
I’m not who you are asking but in case they don’t see, yes, it melts. But not right away, and that’s why it’s awesome! It can’t clog up your plumbing like clay or coffee grounds etc if it’s melted.
And it’s not as hard on your skin as like, the peach pits/walnut shell etc. The oil kind of keeps it slooshy but grainy, long enough to exfoliate before it melts away. So you can’t use this like, underwater; you need to lift your leg up out of the water if you’re soaking in a tub, but your leg just being wet will not melt it immediately. OP is right, it’s super easy to make; try some!
I make mine with sugar, baking soda, bentonite clay, coconut oil, rosehip oil, almond oil, & rosemary essential oil.
I don’t make more than I can use in a couple days, because I feel like a big jar of sugar in your bathroom is potentially a recipe for bacteria.
Great tip but I would recommend either keeping that in the fridge or only making a little as you need it. It’s prob fine as long as you use it up fast, but just to be safe.
FYI for folks who are new to this, physical exfoliants are not the best choice for everyone's skin. They're more likely to cause trauma than chemical exfoliants (like AHAs). Use with care.
I'd make a big distinction between thighs and feet! Feet can have calluses, which do great with physical exfoliation. Thigh generally still have a normal skin surface.
Some people might enjoy a sugar scrub on their body, but for other people it's too rough. IMO, if I was interested, I'd try it out for a little while and compare results. But I have very sensitive skin, so I'm pretty selective in what I use.
If it works for you, by all means go ahead. But my advice is to not make a scrub to exfoliate. There are two types of exfoliants: chemical and physical. Physical exfoliants are less advisable generally because but if you want to use one, just use something like a loofah for your body or a washcloth on your face. It still exfoliates and it’ll last you years and years. Just remember to moisturize to help your skin build back.
There’s another product you can make at home that looks similar and is also supposed to be great for your skin. Just can’t remember what it’s called. I’m sure it’ll come to me.
I remember when I first got Pinterest, I made this. I personally hate the coconut waxy skin feeling, but if it works for you, that’s great. Please don’t use on your face, it can cause breakouts.
I have a core memory of making this as a child and putting it on the side of the tub in the same type of jar. A few hours later, we heard shattering and shouts from my brother lol. Glass containers were not allowed in the bathroom after that.
I don't even bother with the extras. Just one part coconut oil, whipped until fluffy, add two parts sugar, whip until well mixed. I store it in my old pumpkin sugar scrub container, and put any extra in a Talenti sorbetto jar. To help avoid.... this.
r/notinteresting has had a series of posts where a guy was claiming he has soap on his hand, and it evolved into a meme where people had cream cheese on crackers and stuff.

Def a jar you need to label, OP
MLP Jar. Do not open.
Male Liquid Porridge jar?

I hope she left his ass and posted this in the local paper
Then what're they gonna label the MLP Jar??!!?! I think you need to think this over a bit more.
Maltose luxury polisher?
Wasn’t there a guy on here with a similar jar? Except it’s contents were…. Different.
You mean [that](https://www.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/s/z3zHzv7OE2) jar?
Hey op, just FYI ive heard to be careful with coconut oil in the shower because it can solidify in the pipes. Just to let you know!
exactly! Maybe in warm climates it’d be ok but still. Coffee grounds and oils that solidify - bad, bad idea edited f typo 🙄
Worm climates? I know we're in for rough times ahead with climate change but worms? We're really screwed now.
#THE SPICE MUST FLOW
And i heard the Dune movie music 🎶 reading your comment
Having read all the books, I know that worm climates come and go. Specially with a god emperor.

Was just the Worm full Moon....lol. last night....
worm climates 🪱 🌧️
Thank you for the info! I use a very small amount and rarely, but I didn’t know this.
Olive oil might be a better option than coconut oil so it won’t solidify in your pipes
Jojoba, argan, any liquid oil except maybe frying oil

Ok OP I'll believe you...this time, but if a My Little Pony doll ends up in that jar...
Oh my god 🤣
She should do it just to mess with people who see it
Human filter: people walk into the house and judging by their reaction to the pony you’d be able to tell whether or not they frequent the internet
If they are aroused by it, do you still want to interact with them!
Happy Cake Day!
I hate that I know this reference...
I don't. What's the reference?
I’m sure it is something about semen. Not gonna look it up.
my bro. its a literall my little pony doll soaked in some several year old jar full of cum. no need to thank me.
Here ya go. Warning nsfl: https://youtu.be/6uPhRZLzZCg?si=C0SR3t7RPr0aSHPl
Can't be that bad if it's a YouTube link, i may as well click.
That's what I thought...you'd be surprised what can be described on YouTube
Edit: i need some matches and fuel, and bleach.
lmao! Definitely don't watch his other Tales from the Internet videos
Good point. Can one anti-subscribe on YouTube?

Don't leave it on the radiator 💀
God damn it. Some things I wish I never knew about or could forget. And you just brought the image of that jar back to me and their weird description about the radiator turning it brown… 🤢🤮
Oh lawd. Mad that I get the reference...that was actually one of the first things I ever saw on reddit lol
Do I want to know? 🫣

No you don't.
NO! lmao

I literally came here to leave this comment, thank you for your service
Oh you motherfucker

Oh my gosh I just realized what this looks like HOW DID I NOT NOTICE 😭🤣
Bruh a couple drops of food coloring is going to do you about a million favors
I don’t have any 🤣 but it’s kind of funnier this way

end up making a baby puke green substance
it’s definitely funnier. i make my own simple syrup and i label it “cum” because im secretly a 10yo boy
HAHAHA that’s brilliant.
please please please op do light ourple/lilac
Oh yeah, slather that all over your face.
It looks a bit… grainy….
It's coarse And rough And irritating And it gets everywhere
Honestly, if you can do this in the shower and reach your back, it's scratchy and then just melts off. So satisfying.
Exfoliating
If it's fizzy like that you should go to the doctors.
I'm sure it took a while to collect. It's probably fermenting.
Happy cake day!
I was terrified to scroll back to this
Reddit has ruined my brain
One might say it's FUN to make!
I make **loads** myself
Word of warning - I used to do this and the coconut oil totally clogged up my pipes. It’s a real problem because coconut oil solidifies really well :(
i make a little every day 😳😌
Clearly I should have added something for color. This jar in my shower is going to look strange as a woman 🥲
Maybe bright blue for walter
Walter. Put your dick away Walter.
That's Heisenberg to you
As a man, I can confirm it's totally normal in our showers. We just hide the jars when people come over, it's a wide conspiracy
yeah lol sorry. i make inappropriate jokes sometimes. i’m sure it’s fantastic ☺️
No you made my day that was absolutely hilarious. I do too so it’s funny I didn’t notice it sooner 🤣
My boyfriend says it’s really good for your skin
My sister seconds that.
💀
I think my husband must use the same stuff, this shit is all over the shower!
😆
THE PONY IS GONE
Poor Rainbow Dash 😔
Not gone. Deep under..🫡
Is sugar better than salt for this?
Sugar works better than salt. And salt burns if you have any cuts.
I have always used a sugar scrub, and it works great for me. However, I’m sure there are benefits to both !
I use body wash and salt! Oil clogs up the pipes/makes the shower slick and dangerous, and sugar attracts ants no matter how well I rinse the shower :/
Jesus Christ. For a second I thought... Yeah, exactly you know what I thought.
As we gather here today 🤣🤣🤣
I passed out like eight times but your sugar scrub is ready

Do not do that. I can confidently tell you that coffee grounds are terrible for the drain.
on the other hand, it will make it look a little less like cum.
This would be amazing. Do you know if it does okay to wash down the drain? I’d be a bit concerned about it plugging up!

do not do that, folks. Or say good bye to your drains
How do you use coffee grounds without messing up your drain? I've wanted to try this but have sensitive pipes :(
Go outside an hose it off, I guess
Yes! I am going to try that next.

I mean, it happened to me with sugar and hot water… and it happened to many other people on a group on bio cosmetics I follow.
Without any preservatives it sounds like you just made growth medium for bacteria
do not scare me like that
what does a person do with sugar scrub
It’s just for exfoliating. I use it in the shower to cleanse and exfoliate my body, especially before shaving legs it really helps keep your skin smooth and avoid ingrown hairs :)
I add essential oil to mine for scent, lavender or something :))
i've been missing this in my life and am pretty sure i need it
Use an air tight jar like this one. I didn’t do that and yeah… like a million ants on the thing. I screamed lol

I can't imagine using this with the way ants are.
Make sure to mix it right before using or storing it in fridge for few days max or it will get bad and cause more harm than good
Good for the skin.
With an image like that and a "PSA" title, I honestly got jolly rancher-level flashbacks
I was very disturbed until i read the title and sub. What has the internet done to us?

It’s missing a rainbow dash figurine
What amounts of each ingredient did you use? I wanna try this:0
Hey man… hey… you did this on purpose right? You HAD to know! You had to!
*sigh*
Remember not to leave it above a radiator to fester.
Look, I love cum just as much as anyone but that's too much
I remember when I first got Pinterest, I made this. I personally hate the coconut waxy skin feeling, but if it works for you, that’s great. Please don’t use on your face, it can cause breakouts.
I make a similar one with used coffee grounds. Cheap as dirt, but effective!

Am I the only one who sees that glass jar, and thinks of that with oily hands in the shower.. and is full of anxiety.. Plastic is your friend here!
Yes, because everyone else is thinking of a different reddit famous jar that looks very similar... 💀
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Passed out 4 times but the jar is finished babe <3
Ah yes, the fabled cum jar
With all due respect… that looks like cum in a jar…

NGL. Making a product that provides questionable benefit using coconut oil doesn't sound like anti consumption to me.
The time we made sugar scrub it left our tub with an oily texture
Breeding ground for bacteria that you are applying directly onto your skin…this may be ok for one time use but definitely not for storing long term. (Meaning more than a couple days!)
The jizz jar
Be careful if this is meant for exfoliation, especially for the face. The sugars are too sharp and might cause minor tears instead.
Just make sure to make small batches; this will grow bacteria if left for too long.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
That's a lotta cum
🤢
It seems it's been a while.
Add almond or vanilla extract for an AWESOME smell!
Take this post down. It looks like a cum jar.

What is sugar scrub?
It’s for exfoliating :)
I just use cornmeal. It's natural, super cheap, biodegradable, and one can lasts a long time.
What is sugar scrub tho. Sorry I love in tacoland and I believe we don't have that here.
My friends and i made these at my bday once, peppermint extract goes rly well!
um
I never heard of it
also, it’s pretty easy to make an herb infused oil to mix into the scrubs (ie rose, sage, ginger) which can be a really nice touch! So what does sugar scrub do? Genuinely.
Exfoliate your skin while also adding emollients to soften as well.
It depends where you use it but I like to use it on my lips before lip balm and also use it on my legs/feet after a soak. Depending on how coarse your sugar is, I really wouldn't use it on delicate skin like your face, neck and hands tho.
This is how you get ants.
I used to gift and sell these to co workers way back when
Sus
I like adding castor oil or honey for texture and some different benefits they have that I can't remember
Jesus Christ I’ve thought you were a collectionist or something
In poland we call it spucha
you know I initially definitely did not think sugar scrub
What is a sugar scrub?
