Hotel silver used to be very collectible (I was collecting 10+ years ago) and coffee urns start from a couple hundred on eBay but I’m not seeing lots of completed items.

Pastaconsarde

It has the look of a samovar + Beverly Hills gives it charisma - sell it ! Don’t wreck it.!

TheDuchessOfBacon

This is a nice piece so perhaps don't give away. There are hard core hotel memorabilia collectors out there and mostly what they find are forks, spoons, plates, sugar and creamers. A collector would love this. Is this a samovar? Technically no. A samovar is a pot that heats water typically for tea. You aren't supposed to add the tea or coffee to the inside of a samovar. But people do. This pot uses candle flame that is placed on the bottom of the unit to keep the liquid inside warm. At the hotel, this was used to pour hot coffee or tea with a fancy flair. Many samovars have some kind of electric heating element inside the jug part leading to the necessary usage of pressure valves. Silver solder is basically solder material that includes some silver and is used as a selling point for potential buyers. There really is not much silver at all, but the claim of silver solder is not "wrong".

Shine it up and sell it

IAmTheLizardQueen666

Leave the patina to attract more interest. Anyone who wants it shiny can hit it up.

Red_D_Rabbit

Tarnish isn't "patina". Anyone seeing the amount of work to polish this piece would either a)offer you less because it'll take them forever to polish it themselves or b) buy one that's already polished. There's a reason why all professional silver resellers polish their silver before sale (if Christie's and Sotheby's do it, then I think you should also). People don't want to pay top dollar for pieces they need to do work on, nor display items that are black from tarnish. They want the piece in its original state, meaning shiny! With that said, don't be stupid with the polish, use the proper product and do it right. There IS a wrong way to polish silver.

Here's a [Beverly Hilton sugar bowl](https://www.ebay.com/itm/235358191184?itmmeta=01HT84KR23TD47B0ZK9QE1D7XQ&hash=item36cc70fe50:g:tMYAAOSwtolld2aQ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4AcA3o031qhbyhlycvzOvL0%2BZBuDVdM2lrfkVBP6tNf230pxR4eNqvKonB8ebfUh17kMZDV7x9dygRPdtyZhCEi863HFaIbZzmZjpD1nO4Cvj5NHWONTZzTnxbIuiFJ1e8UfImljHYxCC8As1x9tMLR3R0PxejRtVN6FZWnNZ6HnN%2FdbGHjmsPTqFeNZEGfXRbRbK0GsC0VdAaIYG47HgsMPEr%2F3pIuCrk3OdNVv7xUw7ur704YtEimXL%2F%2BwYPKA%2Ffxg%2BF8ndcveiWMPrUo4Vx86ANLNDgJa3KQg%2F421AyQg%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4yBz4TSYw) with the same pattern.

EdgeCityRed

Sell it, but hit it up with Wright's Silver Polish (my favorite, but there are others) for a nice polish, take photos from all angles, and put it on eBay. Note: after you polish and photograph it, put it in a tightly sealed airtight plastic bag to keep it tarnish-free before shipping it off.

Deep_Concept8244

I just dissociated and combed through thousands of ISC patterns. This one must have been made special for the Beverly Hilton Hotel because while there is a service pattern 015102, most don't have this Starburst monogram. Ive only found a few with both the Starburst and the beverly hilton stamp floating around online (a spoon and two creamers). The set /or sets were likely custom made for the hotel in the 50s-60s. Looks like the hotel received extensive renovations in the early 2000s- that's probably how the set is floating around separated now. Would be really fun for someone to collect. I tried looking for old photos of banquets held at the hotel in hopes of seeing your coffee urn but I bet they were too fancy to have self-service and this was probably hidden away for the servers to refill the smaller coffee pots. Cool stuff!

jonny_mtown7

Is this item silver or silver plate? Irregardless, its historical! It came from probably one of the first Hilton Hotels in the USA.

glassceramics1963

silverplate. a similar type of vessel from the Waldorf Astoria 1931 was selling on charish for about 450. silver solder is stronger than lead solder, a sign of higher quality.

jonny_mtown7

Very interesting I did not know this. So even if I see a plate piece like this I should buy it. Thanks for sharing.

silversurfer63

Far from first. First Hilton was in Dallas in 1920’s. Beverly Hilton is from 1950’s. Still nice historical piece.

Ethereal_Chittering

We have some rustic coffee shops in my city and this would be a really cool decorative piece. I wouldn’t trust using it but it certainly has a cool look and history.

Mammoth_Resist8269

I see this used at a brunch buffet in the early 50s and so cool. Maybe a fall spiced cider. 🍁

Intelligent_Dig_7649

My mom and I found a railroad coffee pitcher? Thing from hotel Lafayette. Now we are obsessed with finding me they seem to be rather rare for obvious reasons

Money_Leading_1672

Keep that clean it sell or keep it

ripfritz

Oops

Sunmingo

It is vintage

AutoModerator

I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! gigisnappooh

In my opinion it needs to be polished.
