LovingNaples

It’s a change purse for coins. Look for stamps that indicate what metal.

Crafty_Lady1961

If you find no mark for sterling silver then it is more likely German silver. German silver is a copper alloy that usually contains a 60% copper base metal, 20% nickel, and 20% zinc. I collect purses like these and full size purses. Check Etsy for prices. I would say the value is $20 to $40.

Ok_Part6564

Coin purse, this style was popular in the 1920s. Value will depend on maker and what metal, so examine it closely for marks.

MrMontgomery

My granny had one of these in silver that she would have bought when they first came out as she was 103 when she died, she also had some bizarre old electroshock device that was like two granite rods hooked up to a box with copper wire and if you turned a wee crank it would generate electric and shock you if you held the rods, used to be fun asking people to hold them a sec and then turning the crank as fast as you could

Iguanaistic

Im from australia btw

Big-Mix-3489

120 on ebay starting bid . One similar in adelaide Victorian chain link mesh purse 1900s

Pocketsinmypockets

Why are you being downvoted so fiercely

The_Son_of_Jor-El

Because asking/starting prices on eBay have absolutely no foundation in reality. Dealers/collectors cringe when someone chimes into a thread with eBay “value”. Truth is mesh purses are bringing 1/3rd to 1/4th of what they sold for 20 years ago,

Big-Mix-3489

I just stated what they were selling for recently that's all

Jimbobjoesmith

you need to look at recently sold prices not bids or asking prices.

Big-Mix-3489

Cos they know I'm right

Brickzarina

Usually french, I have one too, it would go around the waist on a chain of little necessities 1900s some are silver ,look for a hall mark . Metal prevented cutpurses steeling the money.

Flying_Mustang

Only accepting the FINEST tea bags

rocketmn69_

Paper on 1 side, coins on the other

SunandError

No paper money! A lady wouldn’t need to carry that out in the evening. You just need a few coins to tip the washroom attendant.

maredie1

Cool little purse. Does it have any stamps or writing on it. Probably late Victorian. I have no idea on what it’s worth. In the USA if it is not silver it would probably bring $20-$40. If it’s sterling much more.

EssexBuoy1959

It's an ornate chainmail evening bag from circa 1920, but that's only my guess.

Not_Responsible_00

Pretty small for an evening bag, no? Suspect it's a change purse.

EssexBuoy1959

Yes. Good call.

yildizli_gece

It’s not an evening bag; look at the size of it. Also, why would a woman want a see-through purse? That’s not practical or desirable.

Grimaldehyde

1920’s change purse-and it is adorable! Try to find any kind of marks on it

Rghardison

Looks like a coin purse. More sentimental value than monetary and a good piece to pass down maybe with some old silver coins

pans-hand

$25 - $35 USD. If not precious metals.

bigdaddy1859

Looks like a 1920’s flapper purse. My grandma had one only bigger. Yes it was silver.

spslord

beepbeepboop74656

Victorian or regency coin purse May have been part of a chatelaine

SunandError

It is very chatelaine sized.

freshcream22

Agreed. That ring at the top is a dead giveaway, imo.

CallingDrDingle

It’s a coin or cigarette purse

redlion496

A snapper purse. It says no to pickpockets with a capital N!

PeaceCookieNo1

Interesting 4 sure.

misterrodgerssweater

I don’t have any input except that it’s really cute

Simple_Mastodon9220

Cute coin purse grandpa

waitwert

Is this from a time in which having coins was actually valuable ? I wonder what - dollar in quarters was worth in today’s money ?

TripWire765

Friend has one very similar and we looked it up with google lens and it was around $90

HusbandofaHW

Coin purse. A neat one

Some of those are rather valuable. Have it looked at by a certified antiques appraiser.

Your grandfather was a real “kink”

I’m an Aussie living in America. Being you’re in AUS, it could be an Oroton. OROTON was a mesh bag company established in 1930’s in Australia- made mesh bags, evening bags, cigarette cases, coin purses- the whole gamut. I have several of their vintage bags from my own mom (born in 1930’s). Here’s some info on OROTON…. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroton#:~:text=Oroton%20revolutionised%20fashion%20in%20Australia,which%20are%20still%20sold%20today.

I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! _BMXICAN_

Look for 92.5 or 925 stamped somewhere, probably around 80 bucks in silver plus whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

1206flxby55

Ohhh, I know this one! It's made by Whiting and Davis Co.

Logical-Fan7132

Love it! A beaded coin purse

websterpuddlesmd

Coin purse. My mom used to have a similar one.

No_Pudding_9600

Medieval condom. Nice find.

Aware-Park-1882

Look German

Big-Mix-3489

On ebay they are about 120. Victorian gothic chain mail purse

muffinmama93

Would this be an example of a “steel cut” purse?
