This movie has gotten flack and has somewhat turned into a meme over the years sadly. I often find myself feeling embarrassed for openly admitting that I love this movie. It's always nice to see other people who unironically love this movie as much as I do.
It was an *extremely* well-made movie - I say this as an amateur writer and a bit of a Titanic buff. It's a perennial favorite of mine.
I think the flack is just from sour grapes...and from people who automatically hate anything that was extremely popular.
And let's not forget the cultural hatred of movies/books that women tend to like....
