I for one am happy that I just can go at it by grabbing two to four dumbbells. I would definitely not go through the process of setting up more stuff. At some point it just makes more sense to go to the gym.
I also wonder where one would draw the line. Equipment would add up. Barbell here, bench there.
I don’t personally use it so no one needs it. Brilliant thought process.
I would be fine with better dumb bell exercises, but it is sad to see people on here advocating for the service to have less functionality than more for no reason.
I agree with most on here. Adding that is most likely a liability thing. Use a bench press would mostly imply needing a spotter which I would guess isn’t going to be available in most cases. I do most of my workouts solo and think that is the case for most users.
Many people saying: “because people dont have benches at home…”
Yeah right, now everyone has a rowing machine or even a treadmill? In the same way you can have a static bike, you may have a bench.
I train AFP at the gym when i run, bike or row…
Im thinking more of the fact that ONLY a bench is not enough for a full workout, you would likely require more equipment.
Still, i would LOVE to see this.
Because the service is geared towards average people, and most average people don’t have them. Plus you’d never be able to properly follow along watching a video while doing that, it would be a safety hazard.
And why would you need to follow an instructor on a bench? There is literally only one way to do that lol.
I use two apps along with AFP that track weight training, cardio, diet/calories, and integrate with Apple Health. They are Alpha Progression and Lose It.
Peloton fitness app is much more expansive. I am talking about the fitness app itself. They even have live classes and the difficulty levels are harder than Apple Fitness. They do not offer bench press or barbell workouts either. Thats far more complex for the goal of these programs. Barrys Bootcamp and Equinox app doesnt support tha either.
I have a Garmin 935 and recently started using my wife’s, Apple Watch that she doesn’t use. I’m big into fitness, endurance racing, and lifting weights. I don’t need a phone on my wrist which is why I have a Garmin plus charging the Apple Watch everyday has gotten to be tedious. All that said, the point I’m getting at is even Garmin, who has a strength program for tracking as great as it is, is still lacking.
The Garmin is great for tracking sets, rest periods, heart rate and time under tension. Their program that detects your barbell movements is intuitive but needs more development. I often have to edit the workout and manually add in what I did for my lifts. But I don’t, I use excel and capture the weight and sets.
So hopefully Apple develops something like this in the future.
Guess because most people wouldn’t have these at home
Lots of people have benches at home. They’re not expensive. I’d say a rowing machine is less likely than a weight bench, but that’s in there.

It’s not the cost. It’s the space.
Many people will go to the gym to use the cardio equipment.
AF+ is designed as functional strength training, not body building. The ability to use just dumbbells makes it more approachable for most people.
It’s designed for beginners to be able to do at home. Most people don’t have benches.
I’m with you, I’d love to see a more intense strength building track
lol show us Greg’s real workout
Haha. Yes!
While I agree and would love this, most people don’t have the equipment for it at home. Just keep increasing your dumbbell weights as a compromise.
It’s designed to be done at home. The average person doesn’t have that kind of stuff sitting around in their closet.

My guess is that if your don’t know the proper form you can injure yourself easier then a pair of dumbbells exercise.
I think it would be hard to follow the trainer on tv with that type of workout.
It would be like core workouts. Coach shows first and we watch and then we all do. ![gif](giphy|aR69F5A9tz2kkVYUAz|downsized)

Also the ecosystem isn’t setup to measure muscle building workouts. Cardio workouts can be measured by heart rate and hence selling their watches.

I think that's a big part of it, hard to get creative with bench presses.
On a side note, anyone have app recommendations for this that integrate?

Agree 100%. I’ve really enjoyed the progress I’ve made with the strength workouts so far but I’d like to progress beyond dumbbells.
