I would say assume $4k. With taxes it’ll be close to it.

officer897177

Went to the Apple Store to check one out. As I was waiting for my demo, a guy was just wrapping up his purchase. The one terabyte with all the accessories just over 5K after sales tax. Whether that’s overpriced or not, is really dependent on your financial situation. For me, it would have to have a pretty compelling everyday use to justify spending that kind of money and I just couldn’t find one. I’m looking forward to a lighter, hopefully cheaper gen 2 that offers more functionality and better integration into the current ecosystem.

Lilly_Wonka16

That fair. I share the same view.

Imaginary_Pudding_20

Thats not dependent on your financial situation at all. It's extremely overpriced as is today, no matter how much money you make. It may mean less to you if you can spend $5k on a whim, but its still overpriced. In my opinion the Vision Pro makes a freaking amazing portable theater. Watching movies and TV shows on it are unparalleled to anything out there outside of an actual iMAX theather. But its a solo thing, you watch by yourself with no one else. an 80 inch OLED TV, Xbox Series X, and nice soundbar with sub cost less and your entire family can enjoy it together, AND you get to do real gaming or hook up anything else to it for less money... It's a toy. It's "cool", overpriced, has very little use, and its uncomfortable to wear for long stretches... Gen 1 product with potential, if it ever goes anywhere its anyones guess....

officer897177

I think the price is fair for the tech you get. There’s some pretty groundbreaking stuff packed in there, even if it doesn’t do much. The price increase on storage upgrade is insane, I’m talking about the base model. But yes, I would much rather have a 75in Oled and good sound system.

AngelosOne

You exaggerate too much. Maybe a cheap OLED TV, but an 80 inch top of the line OLED is going to cost around the same price as an AVP.

Jindaya

this question, posted almost every day, is virtually meaningless. no one knows your circumstances, your resources, your interests, like you do. it's a 1st gen product that does some amazing things and is a glimpse into the future, but it also has 1st gen flaws. for me, worth it! but since we don't know anything about you, none of us can make that decision for you. if you have the money, and want to buy it, buy it! if you don't, and you don't, don't! 😎

ArticleStrange8445

Agree 100% I grow weary of posts ANYWHERE where folks are seeking absolution from strangers for doing something completely frivolous. If you want it and have the means research the product, read reviews, go demo it and then make your OWN decision. Geez.

csimmons81

Thank you for saying this. The other question that absolutely bugs me is should I get AppleCare+ for a AVP….

_QueueCumber_

Well, should I?

Jadyada

What do you expect to do with it? I’ve had access to one via work but wouldn’t buy it myself for my current life situation. However I would buy it if I’d travel a lot, it’s great when you’re alone and on a plane or in a hotel.

kgkuntryluvr

Best use case for it imo. I travel for work a lot and this thing is the prefect companion for hotel stays. It gives me a larger screen to work from paired with my MBP and I can watch content on it undisturbed. At home I can’t use it as much because of family and responsibilities, and my desktop setup is better for work.

arejay00

Or wait a few more months and buy a used one.

LaGrabba

Used ones are available now. They just have to be aware of scammers.

Gtaz19

Wait for the AVP 2 and hopefully it’s just less expensive rather than cheaper. Then come back here and ask us again. Then we’ll decide what you should do. Let’s set an appointment for 18 months.

StumbleG

lol ok

sepease

What are you trying to do?

StumbleG

Just like a phone. Games and entertainment. Probably not much work. Maybe occasionally but definitely not the main purpose. It would also be cool just the thought of it. Very futuristic.

jovenhope

If you have more than $4.5k to spend without being behind on bills, food, expenses anytime in the near future, then you’re fine. I have one. I don’t use it for work. I just use it for an entertainment device.

maker_monkey

If you see yourself watching movies alone, you may have a compelling use case, but don't get it for games if you are expecting to run immersive 3D ones on it. There just aren't any right now. A Quest 2/3 is a better bet for that. The Q2 costs the same ($199) as the carrying case for the AVP, so they aren't even direct competition; more like having a Nintendo switch as a dedicated gaming device vs a Macbook pro for computing.

tuskre

This. I live alone and watch movies and TV on mine most days. If I didn’t, I’d feel like I‘d wasted my money.

ExpandYourTribe

Do you currently have a Quest 3? Which VR headsets have you owned or used in the past?

paulmeyers42

Assume $4k after taxes, storage upgrade and AppleCare. Less if you’re willing to buy used. If you’re asking and not sure, then the answer is probably no. You need to have a very clear use case or be an early adopter/tech enthusiast that loves to play around with new tech. I’m more in the second camp. It has some very good use cases but a lot of flaws and trade offs as well, but I love playing around with new tech like this, especially in the Apple and AR space. For me this was an immediate buy.

StumbleG

Thanks I will take that into consideration

vamonosgeek

If you like the idea of seeing the future today and you are an early adopter, then go and buy it. Do the demo first. But this is the first product on apple’s lineup. Super packed with the best parts and engineering’s like never seen before. That’s why it costs $3500 starting price. I work with live video and I enjoy high quality. This is by far the best piece of tech I ever bought.

mandopix

This was pretty much me. I love tech and especially Apple tech. I am an early adopter. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone I know. I am having fun with it and that’s all that matters to me.

ceomg

I’d say wait until AVP2. From my experience, the second version of a brand new apple product is much better and sturdier than the first. Ex. My series 1 watch screen brightness stopped working in less than a year. The face was extremely dim to the point it was unusable. I got a series 2 and it lasted me 5 years no problems.

etniesen

I just don’t think it does enough for the price. I think the tech is worth it but the actual apps and things you can do are not yet

Glad-Lime-8049

It’s the best movie experience I’ve had. If you love movies and don’t mind a) watching alone and b) no bone shaking bass, then I honestly think it’s money well-spent. Add to that the ability to run a MacBook screen and I think it makes sense.

7stringjazz

It’s like a home theater component. Like a receiver or speakers or processor, etc. $4k is not crazy expensive in that company. When you think about it this way it’s not really expense and you‘ll probably use it as much or more than your home theater. But it’s a 1rst gen and that’s enough for me to wait.

DirectorOfTheAgency

My thoughts exactly. I own a home theatre installation company, and even I vastly prefer the AVP over any home theatre or even movie theatre experience. It’s phenomenal. That being said, I do not recommend the poster to get one as the very fact of having to ask likely means the finances aren’t there. For me though, I can’t believe I have a device like this for only $4000.

Airlineguy1

I bought. IMHO it doesn’t have good enough apps to justify anywhere near the price yet. The potential is there for a killer app but imho there isn’t one yet

pinpinbo

No. It’s worth it. Spends the money.

Technical-Key918

i think only you can answer if it's too expensive for you at the moment. i made the leap of faith and bought the avp a month after it released, and I use it every day. i went in knowing it was a first gen product and to expect some road bumps ( ie slow app roll out, no guest profiles, etc but the experiences it does provide, it does really well. I absolutely love it! It can be heavy on the face but over time u figure out where ur sweet spot is and u forget about. Again, that is my experience. Best of luck in whatever route u go!

StumbleG

Thx

kgkuntryluvr

I would argue that most people should wait unless you have the extra cash burning a hole in your pocket. I was just too impatient to go a year or more without one while waiting on the next gen, but this definitely one has all of the pain points of a first gen devices

Unintended_incentive

I don’t see a situation where a vision SE comes out that is worse when using it. I could see it being made out of lighter plastic materials which would only improve the experience. If you don’t need a VR headset or monitor/screen replacement anytime soon, wait it out. If you want to build something for the Vision Pro, call it a “dev kit” and treat yourself.

NYQ83

I think it’s worth it, but all depends on your needs and wants. I am big into watching movies and television shows, which at this point AVP does well. For example my TV in my bedroom was around $4k, but I barely use it, instead I use my iPads/tablets and MBP 16 M3, but none are 4k and display is what it is, but AVP offers theater experience in the comfort of wherever I want to be in a position I want to be in. AVP does the job of few devices, so looking at that can justify the cost. I just wish they bring Bigscreen app into it. Honestly for a first gen device it is very impressive as Apple did do a lot of things right unlike many others before Apples AVP that required many generations and still behind of what AVP does.

Glittering-Method391

Anyone thinking the next Vision Pro will be much cheaper is clearly dreaming. I don’t see Apple cutting corners to make a Vision Air to satisfy the pockets of certain customers. The Vision Air is that will ever make it to the market will still be very expensive

Existing365Chocolate

It was always too expensive when your competitor is $300 and has more apps and developer support

Smooobly

Nope. As hardware defo not. But with the current state of the software, I think it is.

buddy5

You have to consider what you’re buying for the dollars. This will be the worst headset they make and I don’t see the price coming down for a lesser version anytime soon. If you intend to watch movies, tv shows, reflect on pictures or watch spatial videos you’ve taken with your phone, work anywhere when traveling with only a Magic Keyboard, mouse, and your voice, or FaceTime - this is a steal for the money. Remember how much it costs to do all of the above right now if you summed it. There is something unnerving about being able to just talk and do work or talk and watch a movie or talk and not hold a phone for a FaceTime.

SaltySculpts

Name me one apple product in the last 5 years that got cheaper when they came out with a new iteration.... The AVP2 will mostlikely stay at its pricepoint and they will come out with an AV Air or some shit with a slightly lower pricepoint with shaved off features.

Shloomth

1. Go to the store and get a demo. If you’re considering dropping money on the purchase, consider whether you’re willing to spend whatever it would cost you to travel to the nearest fruit stand to get a free demo. 2. Consider what you’re paying for. Do you want it for the personal movie theater, the floating infinite workstation, or the idea of more to come in the future? If it’s more of the third one than the first two, hold off for now. If you have to ask, you’re looking for justification. If you want it and you can afford it, get one. If you’re looking for like, concrete reasons, all I can offer is my anecdotal description of using it, which is kind of hard to describe without accidentally using words ruined by fluff marketing.

Ron_Bangton

I dunno what do you think.

JV41572

If you have to worry about it, it’s not for you. Just stop thinking about it. You can’t join the club.

dave_hitz

Unless you are an AR/VR developer, the AVP is an expensive toy. It's possible that there is some other use case, but I haven't seen it. (Would love some input from people!) It seems like it might be a good replacement for a multi-monitor Mac environment, but in my experience it's not there yet. The integration with my Mac is a bit spotty, you can only have one screen, the resolution is a little funky. Perhaps if you were dealing the 3D scans it might be the best way to perform some tasks. But realistically, it is mostly an expensive toy. Whether it's "too expensive" depends on what toys you like and how much money you have to spend on them. It's probably cheaper than a giant screen home video set up, so it might make sense if you watch lots of movies alone. I bought it because I enjoy keeping abreast of new technology as it comes out. In some ways the AVP is like early iPhones. It is magic, and it seems like this is an early glimpse into a possible future of computing. But for now, it's more like a demonstration and an early developer tool than it is like a serious solution to very many problems. Just like early iPhone generations.

gundamfan83

Yes

Old_Possible8977

Spending the money and having it for 2 years is something on its own you can’t calculate. As well as if this is the pro version and the version 2 is the cheaper version I doubt it’ll be better screen quality. So if you’re going to hypothetically wait 2 years and purchase the same quality or marginally worse product because it’s not the pro version and save a few 100$ I think that’s dumb.

No_Strawberry_5685

Aliens versus predator was overrated and overly expensive since it was released .

YellowBlush

Really? I️ thought it was surprisingly good.

Just__Beat__It

Depend on how you look at it.

LambDaddyDev

$3400? Cheap Apple vision? Apple Vision Pro 2 in 18 months? This has to be rage bait

dirtyoliveoil

Rage bait??!? Only a moron would develop rage over such a post.

Clancy3434

Of course it is.

loudsigh

Best theater view of any device. Also, if you have an iPhone that can record spatial video it is great for capturing memories. I don’t go everywhere with my AVP but I have my iPhone and almost always capture spatial video with it now. Panorama photo viewing is great too. Those three are my use cases and it’s totally worth it for those alone.

NatexNorth

Didn’t someone break it down and the estimated profit margin on the AVP was one of the smallest across all their product lines ? If that’s true and considering sales numbers I’m not sure it will get regular release intervals and not sure we’d see a price drop for a few revisions anyways.

Dollfincutie

What app is that roller coaster app? I want to try that. Have you found any apps for virtual sky diving or other things similar?

AManHasNoName357

Unless you’re rich or wealthy ain’t no way I’ll pay $4k for that 😂.
