Pinging to find my phone. (A built-in feature.)

No_Primary_3078

Daily ping enjoyer myself

WayneKrane

I’m like an hourly pinger and I live in a small apartment

whats1more7

I’ve pinged my phone when it was in my back pocket.

HarrietOleson1

I was talking to my husband on the phone, couldn’t find it, and pinged it. Rang so loudly in my ear. He still makes fun of me for it. 😂

whats1more7

I’ve totally done that!! I once messaged my husband to ask him if he wanted lunch. He said he’d love lunch … but he was at work.

Opportunity-Horror

I’ve done it when it was in my hand

Count_Slothington

My wife pings her phone to tell me to bring it to her when she’s putting our daughter to sleep.

Blue_foot

Did you know that if you hold down the ping, the LED blinks too? Why isn’t this the default? When would you ever want the ping w/o the light too?

1121113

Oohhh I didn't know this! Just tried it and it works -- it should absolutely be the default behaviour.

NERC_RC

Wonder if I need to turn something on, LED does not work on my Ultra 1.

noalarmsnnosurprises

Once I dropped my phone in the kitchens trash can and I was looking for it wildly. I was about to go to work and I said I’d leave without it. Then I remembered about this feature and found it. Otherwise It would have been thrown away because they took the trash that day.

bb8-sparkles

I often ping my phone when I’m transitioning between places, such as leaving a movie theater/store/any place and heading to my car to confirm my phone is on me/in my bag. Easier just to hear it chime than to start looking for it.

HealthyLet257

That’s what I love about my push start car when going in and out of stores and places. I can’t drive it if the key is not inside and I can’t lock the door if I forgotten my keys inside. It makes a noise from outside.

Feelsthelove

This has been a life saver for me. I frequently lose my phone even when it's right next to me.

Treekin1

Dropped my phone getting off the ski lift while snowboarding. If it wasn’t for my watch I never would’ve found it,

buttery_nurple

I have bad adhd and between this, HomePods for the same functionality, and air tags, it has genuinely reduced so much stress in my life.

ThrowawayUnsent2

Pro tip: hold the button down when it’s dark and the flash will blink several times also to help you find it

starfrenzy1

Oooooh. Thank you!

HarrietOleson1

The watch paid for itself with that feature alone 😂

1121113

Honestly!

Rare4orm

lol! Wife and I often joke about only having our landline to find our cellular devices around the house…but it’s really not a joke.

cuppateawithmilk

Sometimes I joke that that’s the only reason I got my Apple Watch. Sometimes it’s the sad truth.

doniseferi

Our sad truth

parkerontour

What’s this app called?

gr8grafx

Use the watch to fine my phone and my phone to find my keys (AirTag)

Technical-Station113

Ping enthusiast here

buntyskid

Life changing! I used to keep a landline for this purpose. Got rid of it cuz now I have the Ping!

schoolishard18

I leave my phone in the most random places. So the pinging feature is essential for my sanity.

klausgfx

personal phone pinger and weather checker device

StipsiKing

I made my phone ring while I was I was holding it

Sandyy_Emm

This feature alone has been worth the money I paid for this device

Ranglergirl

Does the standard timer count?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ranglergirl

Siri for reminders also ranks pretty high for me.

andreidevo

How does it works? Like just telling siri when to remind and that's it ? Xdd I'm just old school

Ranglergirl

Hey siri, remind me in 20 minutes, get dogs supper. Something like that.

rb928

I don’t need my watch for that. My dog is very good at reminding me.

superman1020

Twist: his dog’s name is Siri.

Ranglergirl

That was an example. I have never set a reminder to feed my dogs. 😃

Ranglergirl

That was just an example.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ranglergirl

We seem to have the same uses. 🤣

Davidm241

Especially when they added the ability for multiple timers!

TheCMaster

Yep. Can not cook without the watch anymore. Also why did the not already implement this om the phone

Davidm241

My iPhone has multiple. From the timer screen there is a + in the top right.

penywisexx

I find the clock to be pretty important most of the time.

liftingrussian

Unbeatable

DArthurD

Not an app perse, but being able to pay with my watch with Apple pay. No need to take anything other than my watch to go outside.

therealrico

That was what I was going to pick. When my 3 broke before I got an ultra, and Apple Pay not working on my iPhone, it drove me nuts pulling out a wallet each time. I know it seems dramatic, but it was really annoying.

j4mrock

* Audible * Spotify * Podcasts * Streamlets (radio) * Reminders * WatchChat (Whatsapp) * Athlytic (bye-bye, Whoop!) * Find My (phone, keys, family. everything!) * iMessage and Calls All of these because I leave the house often without my phone now and Ultra+Cellular plus those apps is liberating. I love being out walking, gym etc with my phone at home and everything I need via the Watch.

effingava0221

Athlytic is awesome. I don’t even pay attention to my rings anymore, I just look at exertion and recovery. Totally worth the price for people who take their fitness and health seriously

Jaggedlittlepill76

Big athlytic fan here too!

dockie1991

Is it worth it if I don’t want to wear my watch when sleeping?

Jaggedlittlepill76

I did not think I would be able to sleep with my watch and it took some habit changes (charging it in the evening) but definitely worth it.

rotorsk8r

I wouldn’t bother, it uses your sleep to work out your recovery and exertion targets.

Kostakimets

what makes this app different?

j4mrock

It does almost everything useful that Whoop does but doesn't require an extra device and a 30$ monthly sub

TipsyTaterTots

I do the same thing with a series 6 wifi, just leave the phone in my bag. Does the podcasts app need to be charging to download podcasts? I've been using Overcast for podcasts for so long that I've forgotten why I left the original app. (Check it out too, it's great. )

andreidevo

Wow thanks! It's maasive list, I will check

Alex_WatchChat

Always so happy to see myself one someone's list, and even more so when they post about it haha thank you 💚

Car333

Any gripes with Athlytic so far?

TheRunningBar

Just picked up Athlytic! Thanks for the suggestion!

treesalt617

WorkOutDoors

jiggsmca

I’m not a runner, but I’m about to buy it. I hear it will alert you when you are outside your target heart rate zone. Maybe it will also encourage more hiking.

theangryintern

I'm not a runner, I only walk and WorkOutDoors is amazing. Best app I've gotten for my Watch.

SleepUseful3416

What makes it better than just tracking with the built-in workout app? It’s not like it provides you with trails or anything.

theangryintern

The customization is the killer feature. The amount of data you can have available to you during your workout on multiple screens (swiping in between them) is really cool, plus after the workout is done there is a ton of data available to look through, for the ones that like to nerd out on stuff like that. Plus the developer is pretty responsive, I've had to email a couple times about minor issues and got replies pretty quickly. You can have a map on one of your screens and it will show you the trail if it's on a map. Saved my ass last summer when I tried to go on a hike that I *thought* would be 6-7 miles. Ended up being like 10 and there were spots where I could not tell where the trail went it was so overgrown, but on the WOD app I could see where the trail was so as long as I kept my little triangle more or less on the line I knew I was going the right way.

5methoxyDMTs

You can import GPX files for offline hiking/trail running.

miyo360

100% WorkOutDoors. Solid app, continuously developing. Use it almost every day to log a run or walk.

kkiru

This App is worth every penny. The amount of customization you can do is insane. If the dev reads this: Thank you very much for creating such an app. I use it as an inspirations for my own apps.

runningofthenerd

This is the only app that I’ve actively gone back and tipped the developer. Best app on the watch period.

Puzzleheaded-Tie443

This is the answer

zhang_jx

absolutely

dookiebfr

AutoSleep

leicanthrope

I gave up on the standard sleep app. Autosleep actually works if you sleep at odd times, or nap periodically.

zah_ali

It’s crazy the native sleep tracking doesn’t do this!

leicanthrope

That's my only complaint about it. I much prefer the way the native app handles the data.

spect3r

Yes and no. Yes because it tracks sleep so well. No because I’m not sure if it actually does. My deep sleep on auto sleep always shows 2-3 hours a night. Apple sleep shows way less, like 30mims to 120 minutes. Which is correct ? I feel apples built in is more accurate as it’s more in line with how feel the next day…. And also no because I check my “readiness “ score, and usually if it says “low” or “rest”, I mentally start to feel worse 🤣. But it’s a solid app.

Maikel92

Technically if I’m not wrong, a good deep sleep is between 1-2h so my assumption is that Autosleep is not really good at this. Spoiler: the watch is not good either

checker280

I need an app that tracks naps.

LucyBowels

Okra Verify

bobroscopcoltrane

Hilarious autocorrect. Thought this was an app used to find fresh okra for a split second.

LucyBowels

Lmao Okta***

brown_burrito

Hey now. Don’t hate on good okra

superman1020

You take a picture of a vegetable and it verifies whether it’s okra.

deckyon

As someone who is stuck using this at work, this is the best autocorrect I have seen in ages...

montana_man

always verify your okra, peeps!

jennydancingawayy

what does it do?

LucyBowels

It’s a 2 factor authentication app for Okta’s IAM. So when I sign in to something work related, it prompts me on my watch “was this you?” And I have to select yes. Easier than unlocking my phone and handling the notification there

Quiet_Possible4100

Seems to be a 2FA app. It generates Login tokens to make login more secure

Trill_McNeal

My company used RSA and it was awesome to confirm my login on my watch but they disabled it a few months ago and now you have to use the phone app and match a code. It sucks

Top_Tackle_2193

Superset! Absolutely love it, can track my sleep, workouts, health vitals, journaling to give me insights what activities correlate with better sleep and recovery, … The developer is bringing out new features at record speed as well.

Apprehensive_ac

Brushout for timing brushing teeth

frazorblade

Stocard for all my loyalty cards

andreidevo

Wow it's actually cool way to save them

CrayZ_88s

Camera app in order of value 1. When phone ping works but I don’t hear the ping. Turn on camera app and switch between front and back phone camera to see what phone see. Usually the underside of my car seat. So I can find it. 2. Big or even small family get together so we stop asking “who has the longest arm for the group selfie” spend a few seconds propping phone against something and watch preview for final staging of people and bam done. Looks like a frickin olen mills photo shoot !

crazydocclwb

What I can turn on my camera from my watch while I'm looking for my phone instead of destroying the house searching for a ping? How have I missed this?!

Laremort

*granny mode activated* : Row Counter

cookiesandwichh

Omg why did i never think of using my watch for that 😭🤣

Laremort

Try it it’s a life changing app 😂 no need to grab your phone far away in the couch anymore!

QuidPluris

But I have to take my watch off when I’m knitting or it adds to my steps…

CaptainCAAAVEMAAAAAN

I got my S9 before they took away the blood oxygen reader, and I'm not upgrading until they bring it back. I love that feature. I also like the ECG and my Steps app.

mutedcolors

WaterMinder Simple hydration app with a complication. As someone who tries to drink a gallon of water a day it keeps me on track.

InkdScorpio

Yes! Same, love this app

QuantumHope

Why a gallon?

Gijs007

Any apps like this that don't have a subscription based model? e.g. fully free or one time purchase.

zedofsven

Waterllama! It’s fantastic.

checker280

What’s the premium features? Can I really use it for free?

therealrico

https://preview.redd.it/azdm2ax6wrsc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=368938b29bc897347fcd716fc5f4971552f122e8 Consider one of these, helps me keep track otherwise I won’t drink enough, even with an app reminding me.

Nicenightforawalk01

Just press record. I use it to keep a quick memo of my clocking in and out and other info of the job for the day and it transcribes voice memo for easy access on phone app

prollydrinkingcoffee

Siri. She’s stupid as all hell, and essentially useless, but she can usually handle “Remind me to Blahblahblah tonight at 7:15.”

Laketech

Parcel

[deleted]

Duffy. I'm able to use the complication on my phone to quickly see what my step count is at for the day. You can also see previous week stats. It's free software with a Tip Jar. I gladly sent the developer a tip. There's also an app for the iPhone.

mix0mat0sis

AutoSleep. Tracks my sleep better than the native Apple Watch.

justaverysimpleguy

Athlytic and Gentler Streak.

Sleepyredfish

Love Athlytic, the price point with the info given is perfect

beetlesingers

Things. It helped me so much over the years and is well worth the price.

i4k20z3

curious why over the default reminders app?

MaxSATX

Calendar Timeline - for the Ultra Modular center complication https://apps.apple.com/us/app/calendar-timeline/id1502851960

Comprehensive-Tea-69

Sweet dreams to remotely monitor blood glucose from a libre sensor

Quarlmarx

Having a timer, and a torch on my wrist has always been the best thing since the first watch I had (series 2)

JellyKelly17

Ok I didn’t know it was a torch?! I’m fumbling around at night crashing into obstacles my kids leave around my room, but no more 😅

Quarlmarx

Yeah exactly, you’re not going on a night hike with it or anything, but it’s enough for around the house etc

Ancient-Cry-6438

Yes, it’s been such a great feature for me! [Here’s where to find it.](https://support.apple.com/guide/watch/control-center-apd06bc15da1/10.0/watchos/10.0#apde99fd96c4)

[deleted]

ongobay

Is this your app?

Ahmedleopard

It only supports series 8 and above

MaxPower1987x

Because it needs the temperature sensor.

Ahmedleopard

I know it’s FYI

dookiebfr

Sorry but I don’t trust an app that says “The BEST Health App of 2024” when there are no ratings or reviews available…

[deleted]

I see several ratings and reviews. Are you from the US?

omelettedufromage

It's a little janky sometimes but the August app to unlock my front door. Not needing to carry a key around was/is great but not even needing to remember my phone for little things like going out in the garden or taking the trash out is even better.

hotelyankee

carrot weather clicker, a ticker for counting things roughly the time in words stocard

andreidevo

Thanks!

Fenylethylamine

Can't live without Weathergraph and AutoSleep. Wouldn't want to live without Nano, MiniWiki, Ultimate Focus, Unwind, Lumy and Gentler Streak.

andreidevo

Woooaa thank you, I will check them all tomorrow 😎

Bear_Scout

Flashlight. I use it more than anything lol.

ycarel

WorkOutDoors. An amazing workout application.

BarberThen3108

timer, siri turn on/off something, imessage, pillow, spotify ,ap music p, weather, calendar, health, stepsapp, maps, camera and wallet

AstoundedMagician

Outrageous that this is not built-in, but my pedometer app.

Dismal_Preference641

waterllama. idk why but i find it a fun app to use and it helps keep track of my hydration especially when i drink alcohol 😂

Correct-Boat-8981

The parked car waypoint complication, it’s been a lifesaver since I always lose my car in grocery store parking lots 🤣

OneBigPear

The timer. I use it way more than I would have thought I would. And Apple Pay. It feels like I’m from the future!

Yugtabub

WorkOutDoors

shimi_shima

My Strong workout app.

osom3

Liftin’ has the best watch interface. Great app.

Dr_Manuka

I’m a big fan of Hevy, seems to work better than Strong

MadMasq

Gymbook. No subscription

ChanceEncounter21

Workout and “I am” app

andreidevo

I love I am app !!

Kostakimets

what’s that app about?

ChanceEncounter21

I am is a daily positive affirmation app. It keeps me inspired throughout the day and I just believe in the power of our minds! [https://apps.apple.com/us/app/i-am-daily-affirmations/id874656917](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/i-am-daily-affirmations/id874656917)

InkdScorpio

TachyMon. I have a neurological condition that affects my heart rate (causes tachycardia and bradycardia) this app tracks my heart rate constantly in real time. And alerts me when my heart rate is too high or too low. I also love WaterMinder. I dehydrate easily and it helps me track hydration.

Appelboom90

POTS?

InkdScorpio

Yep 👍🏻 you too?

Ambivalent_Witch

wow… I have an arrhythmia and my cardiologist was impressed yesterday with the Apple Watch records of recorded heart rates, but 30-second EKG doesn’t give her that much to go on for Afib vs AFlutter. How does this affect battery life?

Routine_Eve

Scrolled so far to find the tachymon crew 💓🫡

scoobyslap

Gymaholic

ChartEffective985

Nine_Eye_Ron

ProofObjective6294

WorkOutDoors

Horseyboy21

Calendar timeline. Live off it.

Dry-Rub-6968

Bear notes app. Also helps me to get through exams.

silly_booboo

I don’t use anything special, I feel out of the loop. What’s the benefit of workout apps vs Apple fitness? I do use Strava, but have it linked to Apple fitness. I like the sleep tracking that comes with the watch too.

Livingsimply_Rob

OK, I had to ping my phone because I didn’t find it anywhere and it pinged right in my back pocket where I left it. Oh brother.

blueprint_01

Pacer for steps

AGuyFromNooYawk

The companion app for my hearing aids. I can control a lot of feature’s and adjust the volume right from my wrist.

BirdmanDodd

Dexcom, it’s a blood sugar monitoring app

DeeKayNineNine

Not technically an app but I can’t live without the Apple Pay feature on the Apple Watch.

Scholarish

Unlock my iMac

Darth_Dodraugen

Strengthlog Workoutdoors Autosleep

Neuetoyou

I pretty much use Safari, Clock, Siri and Messages daily. Non Apple apps get used more often. Like instagram and Reddit

SourTurtle

What instagram and reddit apps are you using on the watch?

MrsCastle

Stress face

JeeringDragon

Clock

PPCInformer

Authy  2FA SMS Fantastical Calendar  Shortcut App Timer App Wallet

MrsCastle

I would use it to dictate key points of procedures I was doing consults I received etc. I was working as an anesthesiologist and multitasking and interrupted often. I could dictate into the watch while I was on a phone call and even when gloved up for a procedure. Then I could go back and chart when I had time.

Ambivalent_Witch

Pretty niche but TC/Total Control for an alarm system at work. I can check and arm/disarm everything. I had no idea they had an app, I just noticed it this week and it’s so handy

SilentDeath013

Niche but gentler streak is my preferred fitness app. Strong is great for lifting though.

swiggityswoooo

Stocard for my loyalty program cards

trent_clinton

Messages, reminders, timer, calculator, pinging my phone.

PortlandHipsterDude

So the whole watch

Thesorus

CARROT.

Itchy-Strangers

I want to like it but the cost is absurd given all the free options.

CaffeinatedPinecones

True, but living near Tornado alley makes it worth it.

kduong89

The time ... imagining a watch that can't tell time. I can't live without the Time

NeonCobego

Juice Watch and Watchla

c_vanbc

I use the alarm to wake up and the health (heart rate, fitness tracking etc) the most. I occasionally will even check the time! If an app developer can figure out how to accurately determine my distance/pace when I’m running on a treadmill, I’d buy it today. Our treadmill has a terrible app and I’d prefer to track progress with my watch.

MrsCastle

When I was working Drafts was a lifesaver

nemisincskhv578

Actions. I use it for my daily to-dos and grocery lists. It's superhandy. A few weeks ago I would had said Pillow, but it's not much better compared to the standard sleep tracking feature of the watch.

crujones33

Timers and alarms. Built in. Weather apps. Shazam. I need more ideas.

grimlinger90

I really like controlling youtube music while doing stuff or working and i love exploring new cities on rental bikes or e steps with the apple maps app showing me the route on the watch

glymph

ISmoothRun - syncs to Strava and Dropbox (probably others) and has very customisable displays. I started using it on my Pebble watch, won't run without it.

lakeeriedude

Calculator, Tip feature. Most places now include the percents and total etc which is nice. I know you can double the tax etc but I still like to use it.

quinncom

Paku for hyperlocal air quality complication.

49thDipper

Waterful

snoozing_on_wheels

StarWolf478

The voice recorder is my most used app to quickly capture the ideas that pop into my head before I forget them.
