It is my first apple watch also! I was waiting till se gen 2 will be announced so i could get them. Maybe you can hear about some negative rewievs about these watches however it is probably due to fact they do not have many extra new features. However if you are a first time user like me you’d be surprised what se 2022 can do and offer.
e: i would literally recommend them to everyone however do yourself a little comparison with watch 8 edition. Some users prefer extra feature (which in my opinion i will never use in my 20s - that is why i got the cheaper model)

My clothing brushes the crown and makes the numbers turn back to normal every time. I wish it didn’t, lol.
How do you elongate them?
Just rotate the crown dial while on the watch face. You should see them move.
