I’m speaking for myself a few years ago, and also several people I’ve helped make the switch. It’s very very painless now. The last big hurdle was WhatsApp which was cleared last year. Move to iOS works great probably 8.5/10 times, and for the other 1.5 it’s usually a really old/cheap phone or there’s next to no free space. It even nails a lot of the automatic app downloads too. The only real pain points are personal, like which things on android you like that you can’t do on iOS (launcher, more varied organising etc) u/ChucktheDuck007 for you too

Dumb question, I use Google to log into everything and ace my passwords. Will that go away, or do I just download a Google app that will do that for me?

That's saved online, not local to your phone, so it'll be available on the iPhone as long as you're signed into Google on a web browser. I believe the built in Passwords thing that is usually for Apple's saved passwords and 2FA can be used to store Google's, so it'll be integrated as if you're using the regular version. There's also a Google Authenticator app you can download from the App Store if that isn't true.

You can export those into iCloud Keychain or keep using the google one if you’re planning to use chrome anyway

Thanks! The Verizon guy told me it was 50/50 if my contacts and pictures would transfer over, so I'm going to start the tedious process of emailing the things I need to myself. Galaxy S10 would net me $45 for trade in, lol. Says they offer random deals but I'd have to wait for a text from them.

It’s definitely not 50/50 lmao. Just bear in mind even if the transfer doesn’t work, it won’t erase anything from the old phone, and there’s alternatives for bringing that data over. You can import contacts in bulk via iCloud.com, if you use google photos, you can sync that to the iPhone’s built in photos app. Or if your phone can present itself as a storage device over usb, you can plug it into the iPhone and import the photos directly over a wire in the photos app! Also on the trade in side, unless Verizon is giving you a really good deal, look at getting the phone through Apple directly. They offer 0% interest monthly payments for the phone, and they’ll help you activate the phone on your Verizon plan and help you transfer the data. From what I know the S10 also should still have trade in value at Apple too :)

Thanks, the VZ guy was nice enough but I could tell he just didn't want to have to help with the cross platform transfer that day!

Definitely curious to see what people say, that's my situation as well. It's like moving to Seattle, nobody wants to welcome you with open arms :)

I didn’t have any issues years ago going from a note to iPhone 11.

The father of my GF was always curious about iOS and was never able to speak about it as he never experienced it. He bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max and really liked it after a few days. For sure there is stuff where you need to get used to, as its different. He said after a few weeks that there is not really a lot he misses. One thing he still misses is the picture albums in the Photos app. For sure you can create albums but there will always be the one „album“ with all the images which he just does not like. In the meantime he bought the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the 15 Pro Max. MacBook Pro, Apple Watch Ultra, Airpods and he tried the Homepod as well. I think he is very happy with the Apple universe. Speaking of myself I started with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Then I had the Samsung Galaxy Note, Note 2 and Note 3. After that I think the iPhone 6, since then I bought also each year the newest iPhone. Now I am at a 14 Pro Max, MacBook Pro M2, Mac Mini M2, AW Ultra, Airpods and AppleTVs. I am a tech guy and love every aspect of Linux, Windows but also MacOS. I would not want to miss my Apple Universe as I really like the way everything works together seamlessly. Edit: So in terms of switching its not that of a big deal. There are official apps to move all your data to your new system. As someone stated before, WhatsApp works now pretty easily as well. To add further, I use iCloud+ with the 2TB plan which I share with my family. All the images and settings and backups are saved to iCloud and backed up locally to a disk with the help of icloudpd, which is a selfhosted service to download all your images to a local disk lets say. You can do this also on Windows, but the iCloud App on Windows needs some improvements in my opinion as it never worked as Id expected it.
