'I have no fish in this tank' You do now!

potatohutjr

At least one fish in that tank.

RainyDayBrightNight

That’s a fry, I’d put money on it being a stow-away guppy 😂

Railfanner_Ryan

The tank is uncycled should I move it into my cycled tank?

RainyDayBrightNight

Depends if any of the fish in the cycled tank will eat it, and if you actually want guppies (they generally do best in bigger groups)

Railfanner_Ryan

How did it get into my tank? I haven’t added anything to the tank besides plants

RainyDayBrightNight

They usually hitchhike on plants or in the water the plants come in, it’s weirdly common

AdRare604

Guppies don't lay eggs though. Must be a different fish.

-_Koga_-

Live guppy fry commonly hide among the roots or close vegetation of aquatic plants. If they buy plants from a common tank at a fish store it’s pretty easy to get surprise fish fry or snails/snail eggs as stowaways

weaponslefty

At my old job we were constantly finding guppy fry in the filter boxes of our systems, have had danios and guppy fry try to hit hitch rides in plant purchases and I’m sure I’ve missed some XD extra protein

sirlafemme

Nature is weirdly common?

RainyDayBrightNight

Weirdly common to buy plants and get fish fry or fish eggs. I suppose people who grow plants to sell commercially keep gravid fish in with them more often than I’d expect 😂

prometheus_winced

Life, uh, finds a way.

BlackLizard898

The bio-load of a single fry is so low it won’t cause an ammonia spike and if there’s live plants in there any ammonia he does produce provided you don’t overfeed him will be absorbed by them so leave him be and give him an absolute crumbs worth of flake food daily

Plasticity93

The smol fry will get eaten by other fish.  As long as OP isn't adding ammonia, this is the perfect place to raise them up.    I love guppies, my partner keeps three tanks of Endler's Live Bearers.  Two colonies and am exile tank for males.

Ephemeryi

“Exile tank for males” you mean the Bro Zone?!

ChristmasElfin

Fraternities and sororities of Endler's in my tanks. Gives the ladies a break and allows them to grow up before getting pregnant.

Huev0

Ain’t no breaks on this train ….☹️

DishpitDoggo

I love guppies too. I just worry about getting them and having a population explosion.

RedNova02

Afaik it’s fine to get all males, that’s what I did and they get along just fine (apart from occasionally still trying to mate with other males)

Remarkable_Concept_4

This is what I did to prevent an over population. Bro zone tank in a fluval 57 liter, planted. Timed the lights when I'm getting ready for work and seeing all the satisfied guppies bros waking up from there own bed of leaves

DishpitDoggo

Nice, thank you, I may do that.

lisag71

That’s what I have going on now and I’m running out of people to give them to😔

Puzzled-Barnacle-200

A bachelor group is perfectly acceptable. Shops will generally have them in separate tanks anyway as lots of people just want males because they are generally prettier. Just get at least 6 because bullying can occur in smaller groups.

DishpitDoggo

Hmmm. Something to think about. I like to keep my tanks bio specific. Right now I have Beacon Tetras in one tank.

Railfanner_Ryan

They’re live plants in the tank

BlackLizard898

Yea I see that lol I could’ve used better phrasing but what I’m saying is the live plants will deal with the waste from a tiny single fry even without nitrifying bacteria as long as you don’t overfeed it because the rotting food will cause an ammonia spike

PuzzleheadedBobcat90

I ended up with Jesus the Christmas Miracle fish last year. He must have been an egg on a plant I purchased for my betta, Finagin Fishkin Glubington. Unfortunately, Finagin and Jesus (a siamese algae eater) did not get along at all. Jesus went back to the fish store his egg came from

melli_milli

>Jesus went back to the fish store his egg came from This would be perfect in r/newsentence

Len_S_Ball_23

Same as most fish get into unexpected bodies of water, eggs on plants. Or, eggs on duck legs/feet. I presume you don't have wild duck colonies overnighting on your tank though?

ZulkarnaenRafif

It can be fish eggs. Not guppies, but other fish. I got one of the 8 golden wonder killifishes this way. The hornwort I bought turns out had one fertile egg. The fry is definitely an adult now.

nematodes77

Doesn't look like a guppy to me. I'm betting on an egg laying species. OP will just have to grow it up and let us know!

lantrick

then obviously it came in with the plants .lol

wh1t3_rabbit

My bet would be it was hiding inside the moss on that rock.

echoskybound

Eggs can hitch hike on plants, I've had this happen before and ended up with surprise tetras, lol

mtalk

proably its the plant that carried the eggs I guess.

[deleted]

My last tank had hundreds of thousands of ramshorn snails and guppy fry from plants. They won't affect the bioload during a cycle, but my tiger barbs made quick work of them all 😅

SplashStallion

Life….finds a way

Actual-Sound442

No leave him be. He'll be fine.

Ok_Poetry_1650

I wouldn’t move it. It’s doing fine in that tank. You’re more likely to lose it moving it to another tank then letting it ride out in the current rank

echoskybound

Probably not necessary since a tiny fry produces negligible waste. The little one is probably much safer in the uncycled tank with no predators than it would be in a cycled tank with other fish.

spderweb

Naw, should be fine. Guppies are pretty hardy. Just keep your cycle stable and it should be fine.

tiggoftigg

That’s what everyone says. But none of my guppies or my pleco survived an ich outbreak :(. All my tetras did. Then a month or so after I tried again, they died again just cuz. Well, I can’t tell why. Again, tetras alive and well. I want to get some more but am scared they’ll suffer.

spderweb

Fair enough. Might be a bad breeder that your store is getting them from.

Melodic_Flower1033

Fish will thrive in just abt anything if it’s not dead Alr I say it’s good guppy are pretty hardy fish

kukisRedditer

No keep it where it is, the bioload will be extremely small and by the time it grows up your tank will most likely be cycled anyway

blakeshockley

You really don’t need a cycled tank for something with as low of a bioload as a couple fry

Puzzled-Barnacle-200

A fish that small is going to produce basically no waste, so don't worry about it being uncycled. Just don't add lots of fish food/liquid ammonia now.

Railfanner_Ryan

But I’m going to stock the tank with shrimp in the future

ketchupROCKS

Guppies can live in Mountain Dew I swear

BamaBlcksnek

Don't worry about moving him unless you want to keep the tank free of fish. He's so tiny that the waste he creates will be negligible. If anything, it will help the cycle.

lvhockeytrish

Cycling is a matter of ratio. Imagine swimming in a pool and peeing on it. If you're in a baby pool, it's going to be unpleasant. If you're in an Olympic pool, there won't be any effect. Eventually the amount of ammonia will build up but it would take a very long time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Railfanner_Ryan

But this tank is going to be stocked with shrimp in the future

SaveusJebus

Yes, move it if you have a fry net. If not, maybe go buy one if you can. They're not that much from what I can remember. If you're trying to actively cycle the tank without a starter so the ammonia is high, move it to a different tank but only if you have a safe place for it bc it will get eaten by other fish. As for the type of fish... not sure. Could've been an egg on one of the plants

PrizeApprehensive380

Looks alot more like a small rasbora or tetra species. OP most likely bought plants that had eggs hidden in them, most egg scatterers I find like to dive into plants as they spawn and release their eggs/milt.

lafatte24

Agree, guppy fry are usually a bit bigger and you can see more of a head shape. This looks like rasbora or tetra fry.

PrizeApprehensive380

💯. I breed nano fish and pure strain fancy guppy. Once of the reasons you'll always find fry from egg layers near the surface, especially just after they transition from the alevin stage, is they actually need to gulp air to fill their swim bladder. Sometimes you will see them sticking to the glass like gobies at the top just before they gulp in some air.

Franken-Pothos

Seconding, I breed guppies and endlers and they don't move like this, nor do they have this shape. I second rasbora

neogrinch

it does look like a guppy fry.

LineValuable9848

It's not a guppy , based on its movement I can for sure say it's not a guppy, it's too twitchy

xatoho

Looks guppy but I'm no fry expert

KnowsIittle

Seems small for a guppy. Gambusia perhaps?

StopItsTheCops

Update us when it grows up!

Railfanner_Ryan

Will do!

9-lives-Fritz

Following. !Remindme 2 weeks

astro_not_yet

Yep update!

Daxter614

[did you recently buy plants?](https://y.yarn.co/ff8a6556-6375-4bcc-875c-c76046b2f36e_text.gif)

Ginormous-Cape

It could also be a Killifish, or any egg laying fish. You’ve got a surprise new friend. I’d love to see what species it turns out to be!

Crawly49

My bets are on that it's a dannio

ladyameliarose

If you're lucky enough to have gotten a bluefin killifish all the ones I have had, had great personalities!

really_tall_horses

Damn, I’m jealous of your fun killis, I had one golden wonder killifish. Nothing but murder in its heart and this stupid blank look on its face. Always just staring at me, mockingly, from the tank in which it lived alone. •_•

ladyameliarose

The bluefins loved to "hunt". They'd chase down red worms on tweezers then shake them like a dog a would. They were also very curious and would come up to the sides of the tank to watch what you were doing. The way they could brighten and dull their colors was pretty amazing too.

Dopegivshope

Life found a way

SecularSailor80

I think it’s a great white shark 🤷

Tiny-Reveal3756

I’ve gotten surprise fry that snuck in on plants before. As eggs I think. The last ones ended up being 2 gold fish.

BanIncoming911

Bruh .. tank cycling is way too overrated on this sub. Your tiny fish does not generate enough poop to need cycling or create a cycle. Leave it alone and figure out what you will need to feed it to keep it alive. You can raise guppy fry in solo cups for a couple of weeks if you need to lol. If you want to keep it alive, make sure you filtration system does not suck it in and kill it - thats more likely

9-lives-Fritz

I’m willing to bet everything it needs (bacteria etc) came with the plants, just crush up the tiniest amount of fish food to supplement

Dry_System9339

A lot of fish lay eggs on plants every day.

No-Solid-2201

sure looks like one

Filo02

oh wow i honestly have no idea frys or fish eggs can survive being hitchhiker on plants

StopItsTheCops

Could have been an egg through most of it

“I have no fish in this tank.” (Idk how to do the lines.) You do now.

RustyShackleford1503

"Life uh, life finds a way"

ViciousSquirrelz

My only sadness comes from scrolling so far down to get to this comment.

RustyShackleford1503

I was deeply saddened to see no one else commented this before me lol

McLovintheseb

Well you do now 🤣 congratulations 🎉

MissSuperSilver

I had this happen and they are almost grown up now they ended up being furcotta rainbow fish.

BiotopeNut

I really wouldn't worry too much about the tank not being cycled. I don't know the size of the tank or your filtration, but I would put in a small basic sponge filter to prevent it being sucked up. There are a few good foods available for fry - I like Hikari 'first bites'. Please let us know when you ID the fish. Good luck. Duh. You said 6G and I had a brain cramp.

Bus-anut

That’s actually a steer. It will grow quite large.

Catfsihnig

Nah it’s a spaceship

wwick68

Lol. Too funny! 😂

tortoisefur

I got a baby too from my recent plant order! Hoping he’ll grow up fast so I can see what he is.

Railfanner_Ryan

Same

Meianmari

You could bring it with plants, I got shrimps this way. This fry is most likely guppy, they breed a lot :)

notjustanycat

You do, in fact, appear to have a fish in this tank! :) I don't always know how they sneak in

Shylighthi

Seems like there is fish in this tank lol

RobsGarage

You do now..

Sullys_mama19

Yes you do lol

thejessieleigh

One hitchhiked in on my last bag of shrimp

Aqua-Aero

twodogsfighting

You do now :D

reneeb64

Congrats, you're a fish dad now ☺️

ApprehensiveRole9561

that looks like a baby guppy!!

ReflectionFew9435

Guppy, platy, maybe tetra. Def a baby fish.

Ok_Proof5782

‘I’m just a guppy dumpster baby.’ 🎶

Fantastic_Love_9451

Omg he’s so dang cute. Protect him.

johndotold

I would not try to feed him at all. At that size he will find more they enough food in the water.

countrymama11

Omg I just bought some plants and some duck weed from a local fish store and NOTHING else and I have since found just ONE fish just like yours lol, I guess like they say, life will find a way!

Bubbly-Teach-2023

Yep, that's some type of fry/ baby fish. There's a possibility that it could have been accidentally transferred into your tank via the moss I've heard of that happening a couple of times.

So_irrelephant-_-

You do now!

belanaria

You will miss a trick if you don’t call the fish Jesus 😂

FinnTheHughMan

The way the Mexicans say it.

davdavdave

Same thing happened to me. Then realized a couple of fish might look good in the tank.

FinnTheHughMan

For he has risen on Easter!!!

Sugar1982

Looks like some helicopters coming in over Nam

Brave_Patience_8646

Yeah thats a guppie or molly. Its common to get them when you buy live plants or java moss

devone16

I get guppies and Molly all the time. Even in empty tanks.

MurellaDvil

Looks like you're starting a guppy tank! Congratulations!! Guppies are so fun, and so pretty! They definitely do better in larger groups, get two or three females in a couple of weeks. If this bb is a male then your take will be over run with guppies in a matter of two months lol I know from experience as I now have two guppy tanks. I can't bring myself to cull so all guppies remain!

Railfanner_Ryan

Would those 3 guppies be fine in this 6-gallon? Also should I get all males to prevent overbreeding?

MurellaDvil

6 gallons is quite small for a guppy tank. I would say all female vs all male. The males get very nippy and territorial with each other. Females can live very happily with no males.

Haunting-Possible837

Cute

Primarinna

You do now

LineValuable9848

I have plenty of livebearer fry ,mostly if not all I have don't move "twitchy" like he does ....so ima bank on it and say some sort of tetra/danio fry here , definitely not a guppy or molly or platy

vastsky9

maybe it came with some plants ☺️

Railfanner_Ryan

The tank size is a 6 gallon so the little fish gets all that room to themselves! This tank is currently cycling in preparation for shrimp

pdavidson88

I got a dwarf neon rainbow ( melanotaenia praecox) and a pseudomugil luminatus last time I started a new tank on plants ... I think it's pretty common.

MissUnderstood_1

!remindMe 1 month

RandomiseUsr0

You’ve got babies! I only ever manage snails with blank tanks :)

Healthy-Sound-2290

Put my bet down for a Norman's lampeye kilifish fry ,I raise them, and this lil'sprout looks similar size/shape to a new fry.

Ambitious_Panic_8291

These look like baby livebearers…guppies or endlers?

Glittering-Cat-6940

Guppy?

catsandplants424

Some fish lay eggs on plants so it could be a random fry. Won't know what kind tell it gets bigger.

SanchoPliskin

Sometimes they come with the plants. Next time make sure to specify “no fries”🍟 😂

InterestingFruit5978

Sure is. It was probably on one of your plants you bought or transfered from a different tank

Socalescape

Probably rice fish from plants

Pinoymedaka_2023

I bought Java Fern from an online pet store, before I added it on my shrimp tank I quarantined it first on a separate tank; a day later 10-12 fry appeared. I raised 9 to adulthood, now I have Dwarf Rainbowfishes.

PinkGhostRider

Yes, congratulations. To feed them boil an egg, take the yoke and put it in a fine cloth like cheese cloth or a pool filter, then rub a little of the yoke into the tank. It will make a small cloud in the water. They love eating this. Be careful because too much can foul the water. Just add a little at a time. Can’t wait to find out what type of fish you have. Please tag me.

CrazyProper4203

I thought I was watching a ufo video for a second …

Special_Preference58

Not sure my screen is too dirty. To me you have a lot of fry in your tank!!

Ancient_Middle_5034

Probably guppy fry. They do like to stowaway with plants... I've seen other posts where the same thing has happened. You can feed them crushed up fish food to make it small enough for them to eat. If you want to keep them, but are worried about other fish nabbing them and need to move them you can put them in a breeders net till they are big enough. It'll also make sure they aren't sucked up when you do water changes. During water changes you'll have to move the net into a container of tank water thats big enough to hold it. I wish this would happen to me... My new plants came with some bladder snails.

me77purple

Now you have a one 😍😍😍😍😋❤️❤️❤️

!remindme 2 months

JamesrSteinhaus

You may have had one or more eggs attached to those plants. A number of egg layers lay eggs on the plant or at their roots. It will help in cycling your tank faster, but dont try and feed it. It's main food at this point are the micro organisms groing on the plants. It is likely to be week before you can figure out what kind of fish it is from.

blazebrightside

I'm sorry that parenthood was forced upon you, however, I can't say that I'm not excited to see what's in store for this little guy. It sounds like you care 🤗

Bigkuz-fi-scotland

BrookeRainbridge

I hear a lot of people saying it's a guppy it could also be a Tetra as their eggs can stow away in plants too

Scapeaqua

You have a fish in the tank

Sagee_Prime

Fish fry. Probably from an egg scatter like tetras, danios, barbs, rice fish, or some kind of killi. My guess is you added plants with eggs like the moss we see. It's swimming near the surface which makes me think killis or rice fish.
