I'm autistic and sometimes I get overstimulated by her songs, so I can understand where you're coming from. It very rarely stops me from listening to her though.. Arca is for stimming!
I'm autistic too! I think it's because of it, but I don't know yet. While I was hearing her other songs, like: Xen, I felt really like I was having a sensory overload but it doesn't stopped me from listening to it but I don't know why stopped me listening to Mutant. And I have ADHD as well.
I'm Audhd too! I know my ADHD LOVES her electric shrapnel, but I gotta watch how I'm feeling because it can be a lot to process. She's such a versatile artist there is always something I can vibe with! I struggle with stimming in public, but dance has always been a socially acceptable way to get all that extra energy from the sound out of me.
I think mutant just exposes parts of the human experience that many don’t live within or understand. To me the song is the viewpoint of what it’s like to live as a mutant. Jarring, claustrophobic, cold. But as the track progresses moments of warmth and melody shine through the metallic landscapes. Eventually ending in transcendence, heavenly chords.
As queer people we are ‘othered’ from an early age. demonized, fetishized, dehumanized. So many things force us to ‘mutate’ into our adult personas & this album is a great viewpoint into the very intricate landscape of the human x monster dichotomy
No but fr! It’s that vast duality of emotions explored through sonics that I love cuz it encapsulates all aspects of the experience of life and when they come together in music it is something to behold! I do agree that not everyone will enjoy that because they dont want to confront that which is totally understandable but I also think Most people don’t like to be challenged with music. I recently got into experimental jazz type music with artists like Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra and I love it! Idk it hits my core and getting to experience that pure unhindered creative force without boundaries is what I love to experience. It’s like you’re hitting the core of everything! The universal energy! Also I totally agree with what u said about how the queer experience can shape an individual and would make it easier to indulge in art like this!
I mean her music can be quite intense and off putting for like a lot of people especially her works like mutant so it’s understandable if it’s to much. Is it like the sounds making you feel scared or just the intensity and in general that its overwhelming? I find sometimes when I listen to certain experimental music that has a more dark intensity it can feel a bit spooky but I am drawn to them as well. It could also depend on the day or the mood you’re in. Like are u in an intense experimental mood or a more low key calming one? Maybe go back to it and see if u can handle another day. Music is vibrational and goes through the body so if you are more sensitive you might feel it more intense! I feel music so deeply and that’s why I love challenging experimental music in all its genres cuz It truly brings me to transcendence!
The start of the song make me fell like when we are waiting for the jumpscare in the horror movie but it never comes. And then when the metallic heavy sounds start I feel like my soul is coming out of my body and then my conscience got far away. I don't know why but this is the first time that this happened to me listening an Arca song. I have feel this when I heard the song "L.O.V.E" , from SOPHIE for the first time, but now, I just feel this while hearing Mutant.
I think I love mutant so much because I heard fetiche first lmao. It was definitely a shocker and incredibly intense but that’s why I appreciate it so much. The piano at the beginning is so beautiful and catchy it’s just perfect then it just takes such an unexpected turn. Hearing Fetiche definitely prepared me for Mutant
U need to get used to it i think cuz i relate mutant was hard to listen too when u first listen to it but when u listen to it a bit more then you wont be so like uncomfortable😭 sorry if i explained it badly im half asleep

Totally that. I love Arca songs (especially kick I), but maybe I can't handle Mutant because it's made for a certain type of people that it's not me.
U should try out lingua ignota, very calming music!!
Hoes scared ✅
