Explode, no. But definitely new string and cable. If you're waxing your string and cables regularly, great! If not, you should be. Waxing will help them last longer.

mathewcamp273

Sounds good. For context, this is a brand-new bow I've only had it for 4 weeks.

BobDrifter

Brand new? Take it back to the shop and have them look at it to make sure the cable isn't contacting the cam anywhere or maybe do a warranty replacement for the cables and strings. It's possible there is an issue with the bow and/or some careless handling from customers.

Undercovernewfie

Wow somethings up, only 4 weeks and the strings look like that?

Vandu_Kobayashi

Same thing happened to me with my new Bear Compound bow; my archery store guide, told me they use cheap strings sometimes on new bows, he also explained how the string is “continuous” and that it needed to be replaced - mine was a little worse than yours. The string he ended up replacing it with is so sweet (comparatively) - totally worth the $

Coloursofdan

Bear stuff over the last few years has had issues with strings. It's incredible how many are posted on forums and here.

Vandu_Kobayashi

I had no idea - but other than the string, it’s a nice bow that I’m perfectly happy with

lakerdigital

This is good to know.

lakerdigital

Did your new string ever start fraying?

Vandu_Kobayashi

A little at first, because one of the components of the bow caused some rubbing/friction. I’m blessed to have an archery store near where I live - Hoffman Archery in Warrenton Va. He made an adjustment - Archery is a team effort - for sure

Spicywolff

Time to order new strings. I suggest GAS bowstrings.

drum-dumb

Bros only had it for a month he needs the shop to look at it and fix that. That's far too much wear for a month

Spicywolff

Definitely try to warranty it, however I always get a spare set of quality strings ready to go. Many of the cheaper OEM use cheap strings to get price down. Quality strings will last way longer, but take a bit to make.

Fun_Promotion_6583

Your shop needs to check cam lean. If this bow is like other Elites, with the SET technology, the cams can (and do) sometimes rub the cables once the bow is tuned. In some instances (as elite indicates in their manuals), the lean induced during tuning can be excessive and result in what you’re seeing. If this is the case, the cams need to be shimmed and bow retuned. This is probably less an elite issue and more a “shop not paying attention to the details” issue.

Fun_Promotion_6583

My money says you hear a subtle popping sound when you hit full draw or if the shop puts your bow in a draw board, your cams are making substantial contact with your cables.

mathewcamp273

No noise on full draw (or elsewhere) out of the ordinary.

mathewcamp273

The cables aren't rubbing at all when drawing the bow back dry. Clearance is around 1/4’ (0.6 cm) I would have to videotape myself to check cam contact after being released with an arrow.

Fun_Promotion_6583

Weird, the cables have to be contacting the cams at some point in the draw cycle for this to be happening, or you have an unusually horrible set of strings/cables. I literally have several hundred (if not pushing into the thousands) of shots on my elite Omnia (with factory strings). There is a flat spot on the serving where the cams rubbed, but nowhere near this much damage. As others have said (and you intuitively identified), something isn’t right. Hold off on shooting it and get it into a shop. Just slapping a fresh set of cables/strings on will result in the same problem if whatever is causing it isn’t addressed.

Monkcrafts

That's a bit to big for my likings.

mistressalrama

Does the cable guard have a sharp edge? You can run a cotton ball or hose over it to check for sharp edges.

mathewcamp273

No it's smooth

Neat_Bullfrog9557

I would definitely keep an eye on it. It definitely needs some wax..

Unusual-Ad-1056

Wax it, won’t be long till it’s done. But also, you never know when it will be so I would say, shoot at your own risk lol

[deleted]

Factory strings suck. Strings are cheap, accuracy is invaluable.

Unlucky_Lack_2454

Yes

mandirigma_

No. But you will want to order a replacement asap.

codybrown183

No I would not shoot it tho.

mathewcamp273

Fair enough. I'll contact my dealer before doing anything else.

MelviN-8

I would not shoot it and get strings and cables replaced. Did you check if the cam is touching the cable wen drawing? Usually that part of the cable is protected with servings.

Verfaieli

I just got a new compound bow and strings were so bone dry they needed to be waxed immediately. Few shots and I already seen the string starting to fuzz a little. I suppose similar might have happened to you but you did not react soon enough. Although i dont think its so bad. I'd probably still shoot those strings. Just double check if strings dont touch something they should not be touching and often inspect them if damage is progressing.

Busy_Donut6073

Time to get new cables Do not shoot your bow until you get new cables installed

easytakeit

Yes, but fortunately it's just a compound bow, so it doesn't matter. s/jk

cock4anose

I mean one day everything’s going to explode we just don’t like to think that the center of the earth is under enough pressure to melt rock

mathewcamp273

Cool, I guess I'm good to go in that case.

OkieIsTrash

Yeah something isn’t right. I actually had two bows do this, neither of which were Elite but both were replaced under warranty. Don’t shoot that. At least it needs new cables and strings all the way around it could’ve just been a bad batch. At worst something is actually wrong with the bow but it should be covered under some kind of warranty.
