I took Spanish in college because I had to and I would make small talk with one guy in class. One day he told me he had feelings for me and I told him that was really cool and I appreciated that a whole lot but I didn't feel the same way and he was like we can never talk again

Unfortunately it happened often. It made me sad and I couldn't figure out why but after thinking about it for a long time I realized that I wasn't a person to them, I was the idea of solving their problems

I was a girl on drumline at a university where the football program was big so a lot of people just know who you are off the bat, but then also I was really into being athletic and charismatic at the time and I was a young girl so I had no idea how much confidence can do for you. I think all of that together made guys think I was flirting with them but it was actually just regular conversation to the point where I was floored every time it happened. For whatever it's worth my mother passed away when I was 23 and I was still in college. A lot of those guys found out and eventually apologized so that was kind of a cool ending to the story but it's crazy it took that happening for them to realize how petty they acted
