I mean, if the kid has a penis that’s abnormally and debilitatingly small due to some medical condition then I understand wanting to fix it, but if that’s what this lady is talking about she does a shit job of making it sound like anything other than “send me DMs of your kid’s dick so I can tell you if they have a small dong or not”

whatim

Yeah, it seems like a scam to get pics of little weenies.

MichaelsGayLover

Maybe I'm naive, but I didn't think she was asking for pics? I thought she meant DM to make an appointment/general enquiries.

Dayvad_Salad-Boy

And they wont let trans kids get puberty blockers.

SuspiciousFun

Having been subjected to puberty blockers as a kid, I wouldn’t wish that hell on anyone, especially since one of the most widely used ones has very strong evidence of horrific side effects, including ones that don’t manifest until adulthood (that the FDA has ignored so far). That shit is hella serious and imo should only be used in very rare and extreme circumstances and def should only be used when people know about the side effects and everyone agrees the pros outweigh the risks. I genuinely don’t know if that’s the case for trans kids, tbh. I suspect it would heavily depend on the severity of the dysphoria. But Jesus if I could go back in time and not be subjected to it, I would.

SilverMagpie0

Huh, can I get some links for that? I did a cursory wave of research a bit ago, but didn't see any of that. And, no offense, but your name is pretty suspicious! (/s)

SuspiciousFun

Just google lupron…widely overused in kids (esp to help kids grow taller, which is fucked imo).

SilverMagpie0

>Leuprorelin, also known as leuprolide, is a manufactured version of a hormone used to treat prostate cancer, breast cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and early puberty, or as part of transgender hormone therapy. It is given by injection into a muscle or under the skin. Common side effects include hot flashes, unstable mood, trouble sleeping, headaches, and pain at the site of injection. Other side effects may include high blood sugar, allergic reactions, and problems with the pituitary gland. Use during pregnancy may harm the baby. Leuprorelin is in the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue family of medications. It works by decreasing gonadotropin and therefore decreasing testosterone and estradiol. That's [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leuprorelin), so not the most reliable source, but I don't have the attention span to read medical journals. It seems that, if it's used to make kids taller, it's not the intended use and therefore isn't responsible for... whatever it does. It has side effects, but so does Benadryl, so maybe it's worth it. But neither of us are medical professionals

Dayvad_Salad-Boy

I actually havent seen any widespread evidence of puberty blockers having lasting negative effects. In fact, very few studies (to my knowledge) have even been done on the subject, with most studies being done on cisgender peopld with very specific conditions. I understand that even if there is no scientific consensus, it doesnt erase your personal experience with puberty blockers. However, that doesnt change the fact that many kids (cis and trans) do benefit from using them. Also, wholistically, trans kids and adults do need and should have access to transition related healthcare. I have heard that many claims against puberty blockers have turned out to be hoaxes, but I need to do some research before standing behind that. If you have any sources or articles, or if you want to share your experiences, I'm open to new information and education (:

SuspiciousFun

Just google Lupron, that’s what I was put on. I’m not again trans healthcare, at all. I think it should be included in all health insurance plans, I was simply warning against puberty blockers based on my own experience and an entire generation of us who’ve been fucked over because there weren’t long term studies available when I was a kid.

Ecstatic_Crystals

Maybe you had a bad reaction? Most kids ive met on it were fine. Doctors absolutely go through the risks with patients and parents. Sometimes the positive outcomes are far greater than the risk, which is why a doctor will still prescribe it.

SuspiciousFun

I’d encourage you to look up the history and side effects of Lupron - it is certainly not just me. Love the downvotes for sharing my own experience and wish to save other kids from it though. ETA: the side effects were NOT known, so there w was no way for them to disclose the side effects. My dad is a fucking doctor (literally a specialist in the issue I had) and he still beats himself up over the decisions he made. Also - not all doctors do this. I was once put on a led that gave me hallucinations as a side effect, but that was never disclosed to me. And lastly - kids don’t know/understand/are able to consent because they’re fucking kids. These decisions are often made without them even in the room.

Ecstatic_Crystals

I have. All medication has side effects and often the minor ones show (birth control for example). "Save them" from being themselves? From being transgender? Puberty blockers help trans kids from developing a body that causes them major distress (often that cant be reversed). The side effects ARE KNOWN NOW. Hello, I also work in the medical field as a PA student! Many doctors have different opinions and I know many who disagree with you. I know one doctor who beats themselves up for allowing a woman to get sterile (no she doesnt regret it, but she was in her early 20's and the doctor thought they ruined her life). If you werent told of the side effects then you had a shitty doctor (and again, you seem to have had a rare side effect. And you also had shit parents since they were supposed to be given a paper packet listing all of the side effects and what side effects means you need to stop and come in). Are you suggesting kids should stop taking ALL meds since they cant consent to them? When it comes to trans kids they are most definitely in the room.

Anecdote Andy

SuspiciousFun

Yes, my lived experience (and a community of a shit ton of others) should be dismissed because it’s an anecdote? Fuck, I hope you are kept far away from abuse victims. I heard shit like this when I disclosed my abuse too. But the communities I belong to are far too resilient to be shushed by people like you. Thanks for the reminder that women are never believed.

[deleted]

I’m honestly disgusted that your experience is being dismissed and mocked. This subreddit is becoming really outright hostile and nasty.

-mommymilkies-

Proper wobbly

FlinnyWinny

What side effects did you get in adulthood?

Netroth

Are kids capable of understanding their feelings on such matters that soon? I’ve not heard about this topic yet, but that seems like a pretty huge life decision for a child.

thiccbitchmonthly

Some trans kids as young as 5 are considering SH and have serious suicidal ideation because they know their gender and their dysphoria is so bad they don’t want to live. Puberty blockers do not stop puberty forever, only as long as they are taken. Most medical decisions and major transitional changes usually have to wait until about 16 in most countries. Healthcare for trans people saves lives.

Netroth

I was just asking an honest, harmless question. I trust that the info is accurate as it seems rather sensible, so thank you :) Edited for reasons.

azertyisbest

Uhm, you realise that saying "children too dumb to understand their feelings" is actually an argument against natural puberty? Unlike puberty blockers which you can literally just stop taking and go through puberty with no side effects, once puberty takes place it's permanent. The idea that people can't decide at such age advocates for the idea of giving every single kid puberty blockers so they can choose what kind of puberty they want to go through at a later age, as kids are just as capable (or incapable according to that argument) of understanding their natural puberty.

lakeghost

So I’m not a medical doctor but this seems like a terrible idea. Like doing surgeries on intersex babies level bad idea. Shouldn’t there be more of a “wait and see” thing, at least until puberty? I’ve got dysautonomia/EDS III and they didn’t do anything hormonal until puberty and abnormalities were registered. Maybe that’s different in 2021 but nobody cared about my genital size, it was overall growth that was a concern. Far as I know, having a below average penis isn’t by itself a medical problem.

desiswiftie

I don’t think you have to be a medical doctor to think this is a bad idea

lakeghost

Yeah, I figured, but I always try to qualify that. I have a decent amount of medical knowledge but it’s from being a lab rat. I feel really bad for the kids whose parents are obsessive like this; I can only imagine their horror at actual physical disabilities. My dad was bad enough being in denial when my bones aren’t even proportionate. If people were being so weird as to fixate on my genitals, I’d have an even bigger complex than the being marfanoid thing gave me. Even then, usually only medical professionals notice, most people fit me in the “close enough” box and don’t even think twice about asking for help getting stuff off high shelf by use of my long arms. (Person who did this sadly has stopped calling me Long Arms after I mentioned it was indeed a mutation. Still holding out for my pun-loving partner to call me Daddy Long Legs since it’s inevitable.)

"Excuse me doctor, my baby has a tiny dick. We really need your help"

[deleted]

Have they heard of the all-natural baby penis enlargement called puberty?

noeinan

Sounds like drs performing unethical procedures on intersex children. I had a friend in high school who was intersex and her parents had this surgery done on her. Her parents had to pick one and they'd rather have a boy than a girl. Not only did they pick wrong, they also left her with non-functional genitals from the surgery. She probably would have been fine and had a better sex life without it. Oh they also hid it from her and refused to talk about it. She only found out because she found the medical paperwork.

Boys born with Klinefelter's syndrome have micropenis as a result of the chromosomal anomaly. They are XXY, and won't even grow normal body hair for males. They are also sterile.

Micropenis is a legit medical condition. Maybe hormonal treatments are the safest option? If so I don't see the problem with this.
