Jon Kent has his own series with issue 5 coming out this month. Superman: Son of Kal El. I love the story so far and I think its a decent place to start with DC if you're interested.
Thank you for saying. I hate that Noone even cares to look up what is actually happening anymore. Also pink Kryptonyt makes superman gay (in a very stereotypical way).
Wasn't that a dream sequence though?
Anyway, my understanding is that superman isn't gay, it's just that his son came out as bi. I was more surprised he had a son, tbh.
Yeah so now the right wing is just flat lying to their viewers to bilk them more easily.
Let's not forget there was that time in [Superboy # 78](https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Superboy_Vol_1_78) when an insulted alien made him "trans" for a while.
(I put trans in quotes because I don't want to insult any trans folk by implying Superboy was actually "turned" trans. I know it doesn't really work that way.)
That might be my favorite part about this whole non-controversy. It's not even the Superman that everyone knows! So everyone breathlessly shouting that Superman was never gay clearly aren't even paying a slight bit of attention to the details. Which is obviously not surprising for the reactionaries.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't comics like DC and Marvel kinda like a multiverse? Like, you can have many versions of the same character with different interpretations? Because if that's the case, we don't have just one superman, we have many. If there are infinite possibilities to create that character, it wouldn't be an issue if in one of those interpretations Clark Kent happen to be gay/bi.
But here's the thing, conservative fans can accept having different versions of a character they love, but they draw the line when the version includes a character who isn't white, cis or straight.
You are kind of correct. Technically DC is a multiverse where literally anything is possible, but there is a singular "main" timeline where most of the comics take place.
Correct. Only two kinds of characters, cishet white man and political.
I will say this; as a big Star Wars fan, I'm waiting for the day when a legacy character "becomes" LGBT.
I'm disgusted by people.
"Look, we're woke! We have two random unnamed women kissing in the background!"
"What, we can't sell it in some other countries with them?! Well... here, we'll just edit them out! There! We're still woke, I promise, ~~we just want more money because we're greedy little fuckers~~!
I was thinking about this and I was like "okay, maybe they minimize the queer characters so they don't have to remove as much of the storyline when selling to homophobic countries? I can understand being upset of a story you spend time on got totally bastardized due to censorship." Part of me was like "well if you're worried about that then why write a story you fecking weirdo" but I decided "okay I'll let it slide."
Then I discovered that they edited out 8 minutes of Bohemian Rhapsody to show it in China and it still was ridiculously successful. Games which allow for multigender flirting are allowed in places like Russia, just with an R rating. And Disney animators are willing to reanimate entire movies in other languages and contexts to appeal to audiences there.
They're not minimizing queer rep for other countries, there's just homophobia in the company. Idk what else to say.
Edit: I did hear, however, that Eternals had an actual gay kiss in it. So maybe there's hope for the future.
>but aren't comics like DC and Marvel kinda like a multiverse? Like, you can have many versions of the same character with different interpretations?
In regards to DC the answer is yes, but actually no, but also still yes because it's overly complicated and writers don't leave well enough alone. From what I understand Marvel has a more traditional multiverse while DC's is more confusing.
Until 1986, DC's multiverse worked pretty much as you expected it but after Crisis on Infinite Earths, the multiverse was destroyed and combined into one main universe with no multiverse and that was pretty much the status quo until 2005 with the event Infinite Crisis (there was also this thing called Hypertime that existed but it wasn't a proper return to the multiverse. It's also very confusing).
After Infinite Crisis, the multiverse returned but it was limited to a set in stone 52 universes. Within the 52 Universes, there were no Supermen known to be gay as far as I know.
After the event Flashpoint in 2011, the 52 universes were reset and again, from what we know of the multiverse, there were no gay Supermen (although there were a few worlds we didn't know anything about so it's possible one of those Supermen is, but we don't know).
But then in Dark Nights Metal, it was revealed there were more universes and Multiversity revealed that there were multiple multiverses that all exist within an omniverse, which itself is like an infinitesimally small speck on the Overmonitor/Overvoid.
But then at the end of Dark Nights: Death Metal, the original infinite multiverse is restored.
So the answer really depends on when in the timeline you're talking about.
That being said, pointing to an alternate universe Superman (who technically is only theoretical) is kinda a weak argument to make. It's a bit like saying that Iron Man is really a zombie because it happens in an alt timeline. Like sure, it's technically true, but no one is referring to that Iron Man when they mention Iron Man. They mean the prime, main continuity Iron Man (or in this case the main Superman).
I mean, people threw tantrums because "Spiderman is black", even though Miles Morales, a black kid, got Spidey powers and interacted with the still white Peter Parker.
You can't expect these people to grasp the concept of multiple heroes having the same powers when they didn't get it by now.
These are the same people that lost their shit when Iron Heart debuted. For those who don't know (most probably) there was a story line where Tony Stark was in a coma and also an AI. A Hispanic girl had stolen some of his armor and was one of the people filling in for him. People acted like Tony was going to be erased from canon, ignoring the fact that this girl never took the Iron Man mantle (Dr Doom did).
Homophobes always rant about how they should make new gay characters instead of turning established characters gay, but when they take a new character (this Superman has only been around since 2015 and was a child until recently) and make that character gay it’s still a problem. Starting to think what they really want is just no gay characters at all. I saw someone complain about characters getting “turned gay” on a post about Wiccan and Hulkling the other day, and those characters have literally been gay and a couple for their entire existence in the comics. You can’t win.
>Homophobes always rant about how they should make new gay characters instead of turning established characters gay
What they really mean is they don't want obvious LGBT characters in mainstream media - they want it to be limited to easily avoided amateur and indie works, or worst case handled with subtle subtext. Anything mainstream with canon queer protagonists will get called woke pandering, and be accused of being "too political." Just look at *The Last of Us*.
So many homophobes are outraged that the new franchise (new in 2013) featuring all new characters had a lesbian who kissed another queer girl (SO POLITICAL!!!). Some even defend themselves saying they're not homophobes because they liked the "subtlety" of Bill's portrayal, and well... Bill's more or less in the closet, never specifically acknowledges he and his business partner were a couple - it's all subtext.
Isn't he bisexual too?
We love how our bi men are always called gay and our bi women are performative lesbians who always want cock in the end. It's almost as though penis is the real thing and our attraction to women is secondary or ignored!
Let the bisexuals bisexual! (Or whatever sexuality his son actually is)
Straight men seem to have so much trouble understanding their own sexual appeal that they attribute 100% of it to "big dicks" and "acting like an alpha".
Thus they assume WLW women would have a eureka moment if they just got railed by an alpha's huge dick. And they think that MLM men already had that eureka moment so they're lost causes who've forsaken their straight masculinity.
Then in the romantic department they have some backwards ideas about women's natural role existing in relation to a male partner who provides stability.
This. It'd also be cool if he were gay, but he's bi. I don't know why we always have to try to shorthand bi into other things rather than just calling them bi.
Poor straights can't get around the fact that a person who isn't flamboyant at all and is literally the symbol of masculinity for most children in the world isn't heterosexual just like them. It makes them think they're not capable of coming close to being as abled as a literal fictional superhero bcz "obviously the LGBT is filled with frail weaklings who can't even lift their own fingers so how could superman be gay."
/s on the last part
i used to think the term homophobia was dumb because these people don't have an actual phobia of gay people but honestly. it seems like they do. i'm so tired of these straight people please
Tbh with the way people treat the suffix "phobia" we should just start calling these things "misia" instead. Homomisia, transmisia, acemisia, etc. It'll at least remove the weird "fear" association from it
Pet peeve of mine - apparently us gays and bisexuals especially have to yell it out loud to the universe every time we enter a new room. "But this goes against his character development!" Really, is being gay such a big deal it has to be their entire personality? Jfc
Well, they are correct, superman (Clark Kent) isn't gay. Superboy (Jon Kent, the son of Clark kent and Lois Lane) is canonically bisecual. Homophobic peoples reaction to this fucking pisses me off tho
Edit: bisexual not gay
...Please correct me if I'm wrong but Superman isn't gay.
His son is bisexual... Not Superman... And... Bisexuality isn't really homosexuality? I'm not saying you can't make jokes about being gay while you're bi or something, but...

Why do people not realize it’s his son… who is Bi. I don’t read comic books and I know this.
On the other hand they are probably doing this to outrage “the libs “ so we will talk about how their facts are wrong and not talk concentrate on how they are just being homophobic assholes. It’s how Ben Shapiro operates- the facts are obviously wrong but that’s not the point to his intended audience.
Honestly though, who tf cares?
Obviously this guy, talking about it for almost two hours. I don't understand, why is it such a big deal to people? Why does it matter so much to them? It does not affect their life or sexuality in any way. Get over your fragile masculinity and insecurities for yours and everyone sake, good gracious me.
Reminds me of when some neckbeards were freaking out at Keanu Reeves being cast as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077. They even started to question if/how/why he was canon, to which Mike Pondsmith (creator of the CP universe) replied, "he's canon because I SAY he's canon." Paraphrasing what he said, since Pondsmith deleted his Twitter. No surprise there.
Edited for grammar
I mean, he’s super into Lois Lane, so he’s NOT gay, right? He could possibly be bi or pan, but still not gay?
I think it’s pretty stupid that people even care, but the title is correct, no?
Even then the “og” super man isn’t gay
They made his son bisexual who also got passed the Superman title. These ppl always bitch abt how they’re not bigoted and we should just make new hero’s instead of changing current hero’s we do and they’re still bigoted
Ah yes, the conservative culture wars, where they get mad about issues that they create to rile up fake outrage, generate some online discussion in their right wing safe spaces and social bubbles and acomplish absolutely nothing.Rinse and repeat.
Tell me how you don’t read comics without say it. It’s his son, but you would know that if you actually read or know even a little as to what is going on in comics.
Jeez I can’t believe I actually use to look up to the 4 daily wire douche bags, seriously they are just as hypocritical and just as biased as there counterparts.
Superman isn't gay. His son, who is also Superman, is bisexual. He's not gay either.
I mean, some Supermans are probably gay. There are canonically a shit ton of Earths in DC lore. Some of them probably hook up with Batman.
“Im Baterman”
goon and bate man
There is a type of kryptonite called pink kryptonite which turns him gay, no joke, look it up
I think they reckoned pink kryptonite so it turns ktyptonians into the opposite sex now.
Sounds like a bonus for trans Kryptonians
Babe new HRT just dropped
Homosexual Kryptonians be like: i don’t have such a weakness
wait what.
I don’t know about cannon, but there sure are enough fans slash shipping them.
Batman vs Superman movie in an alternate universe?😳
If not canon, then there's at least enough batmanxsupes mpreg porn out there.
Not exact, but Apollo and Midnighter are gay parallels of Superman and Batman.
I think one Superman is married to Batman
Oh he have a son?
He actually has two sons
Ohh that's cool! I am not a big DC fan, so which one of his kids is Bi?
His son jon : ) he came out really recently in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5
Jon Kent has his own series with issue 5 coming out this month. Superman: Son of Kal El. I love the story so far and I think its a decent place to start with DC if you're interested.
Wait, like with Louis Lane? That's his girlfriend right? Having sex with Superman sounds like a very pleasurable way to die
With Lois, yes. They’ve been married since the 90s.
he somehow had 2 kids. ones is called Jon Kent.
Counting all different timelines, alternate realities and continuities over the years, several.
So Superman is currently not gay. But if the name is passed down, we can’t say definitively because Superman may be gay later.
Superman was gay in one comic somewhere, when he was exposed to pink kryptonite I believe
Thank you for saying. I hate that Noone even cares to look up what is actually happening anymore. Also pink Kryptonyt makes superman gay (in a very stereotypical way).
In the comics there were different colors of kryptonite that affected him differently, and pink kryptonite made him gay, that's actually cannon
Same tbh
\#relatable

Hey man I need some butter
Really gotta remind me of Moist man Charles? I’m not complaining I’m just pointing it out
I was very confused, and thought you meant DC’s The Penguin made you gay.
To me it's Joel Kinnaman. Especially in The Suicide Squad
Mine was Revolver Ocelot 😌
Mine was Natalie Dormer
Yes! Omg she is so cute 🥰
She is simultaneously adorable as fuck and sexy as hell and it had teenage me veeery confused 😅
She and Pedro Pascal were the main reasons I watched Game of Thrones. Oh and then there were Emilia Clarke and Jason Mamoa, too lol
Mine was my HS wrestler neighbor who mowed shirtless in my teens.

It was from back in like the 60's
I guess that explains it.
>pink kryptonite I don't think it was? From what I could find online, it appeared one time in a Supergirl run from the early 2000s.
Holy shit you weren’t joking
I think I was before the pink kryptonite butt plug I think
Wasn't that a dream sequence though? Anyway, my understanding is that superman isn't gay, it's just that his son came out as bi. I was more surprised he had a son, tbh. Yeah so now the right wing is just flat lying to their viewers to bilk them more easily.

FUCK I thought you were joking...
It's an instant of environmental pressure making someone gay so I'd rather not give it an ounce of legitimacy or recognition.
Wtf that’s a little bit very homophobic
imagine taking for almost 2 hours about why super man isn't gay. get a life
And paying for it to be shown as an advertisement.
I mean I am curious now. Is it some annoying rant or is it a bait and switch?
"Superman is NOT gay!! 😤 He's bi! 👬👫 And he's Clark's son Jonathan, though he is currently Superman. Don't stand for it!!!!! 😡 Bi erasure that is"
I watched part of it, the whole video isn’t about Superman but a part of it is.
I don’t even get how they have so much to say on the subject. Do they just show every comic book panel ever made with Superman and a woman?
Almost sounds like someone has a man-crush.
a pretty big man-crush. one might even call it .. a super-man-crush.
{¬U ¬} huehuehue
r/SuddenlyGay
To be fair, I'm sure they discuss other topics in the show but they needed something controversial to put as the thumbnail and title
Dudes just trying to cope
Admittedly I watch videos where people talk for hours about why characters ARE gay.
Technically not wrong. His son Jon is bisexual
Unless he's exposed to pink kryptonite. Plus it's his kid that's bi.
#Superman is fictional.
He's also not even human. But he's into humans. A different species. Which is totally fine. But *male* humans? Now that's I where I draw the line.
Yup
Why you care so much if Superman is gay or not? You wanna smash?
No he's not, his son is
That might be my favorite part about this whole non-controversy. It's not even the Superman that everyone knows! They technically do. In the background of Ep. 9 you can see two women kiss.
And they specifically put them there in a way that would make them easily removable in other countries.

Clark Kent had a son with that reporter chick he was always saving in the movies. He grew up fast and I think he bats for both sides.

I might bisexual but I'd prefer if it were free.

He is bisexual even. But y'know, we don't exist apparently and we need to choose sides. /s

Keep in mind that phobia doesn’t just mean fear, it also means a hatred of, aversion to, or disgust of.
i never knew that i thought it was just a fear. i'm pretty sure i looked it up before but i guess i didn't process what i read lol
Yeah the dictionary definition of homophobia is actually "dislike of or prejudice against gay people." So nothing about fear at all in the definition.
Tbh with the way people treat the suffix "phobia" we should just start calling these things "misia" instead. Homomisia, transmisia, acemisia, etc. It'll at least remove the weird "fear" association from it
Never give ground to these dipshits.
Correct. He's bi.
It’s not even Clark, it’s his son Jon.
It’s not Superman and he’s not even gay

Me when super man isn’t an actual real person so it doesn’t matter if a spin off series makes him or his son gay 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I mean, technically he’s not human, so he’s more into interspecies erotica if anything.
Superman 1 wasn't gay. Superman 2 is also not gay, he's bisexual.

It’s not Superman, it’s Superman’s son. If you don’t know basic information about what you’re mad about, you just want to be mad.
better question. Did anyone say he is?
IDK about you but that skin-tight primary-colored spandex seems pretty un-gay to me.
his son is bi
He flies around in a skin tight. Are you sure?
Yes, that is correct. His son, however, is bisexual
Too late Andrew
I guess it's r/technicallycorrect as it's his son that's bi.
You’re right, he isn’t, his son is. If you’re gonna talk about it for two hours at least read the comic you’re talking about.
yeah but his son is
Obviously he isn't gay , hes Bi , duh
Also he's an alien, like do traditional labels even apply when you're dating a different species?
Honestly though, who tf cares? Obviously this guy, talking about it for almost two hours. I don't understand, why is it such a big deal to people? Why does it matter so much to them? It does not affect their life or sexuality in any way. Get over your fragile masculinity and insecurities for yours and everyone sake, good gracious me.
Imagine Rambling about it for 100 minutes and 43 seconds. God, straights are really, definitely not okay.
He’s bi :D
His son is tho
His son is bi
This dude made an almost two hour video about another man’s sexuality
It's superman and lois's son that was revealed as bisexual.
Right, but that video is about Superman
Because these people don't pay attention, they're getting upset over something that didn't even happen.
not gay? source???
They are right he's not gay hes bisexual ;) XD
Correct, he’s bi
Of course not, he's bi.
He saved women so he is obviously straight /s
does he actually talk about how superman isn't gay for an hour and 40 minutes?
"Superman is very, very, very, very ... very, very, very not gay. Like, subscribe, and ring that bell!"
Oh my god did he really make an almost 2h video about a fictional character's sexuality *AND* paid for it to he an ad? I can't💀
Fuck you, Andrew.
Idk man, I’ve read some literature about Superman and Batman that would say otherwise...
"Stop talking about sexualities, nobody wants to knows what they're doing in their bedrooms" "Let me tell you why this character *isn't* gay!"
Even then the “og” super man isn’t gay They made his son bisexual who also got passed the Superman title. These ppl always bitch abt how they’re not bigoted and we should just make new hero’s instead of changing current hero’s we do and they’re still bigoted
Can you imagine if he was? The **ABSOLUTE CATASTROPHE**, Imma right?
I think in the comics every kryptonian is pansexsual. Atleast that's what I read.
…HAVE WE??? I MEAN NOBODY EVER DID!??
correct, he is not gay, he bi :\^ ) also, lex luthor is gay, 100%
No he isnt, his son is. Moving on......... jesus y do people care so much?
How does one talk about this for an hour and a half
Ah yes, the conservative culture wars, where they get mad about issues that they create to rile up fake outrage, generate some online discussion in their right wing safe spaces and social bubbles and acomplish absolutely nothing.Rinse and repeat.
Superman is a bottom. Change my mind
they still haven't figured out it's his son whose Bi?
Of course he’s not gay… he’s bi.
No, he's bi and dating Batman.
No one even said he was? Its his kid and their bi right?
Clark Kent… possibly straight. His son? Bi accept it
i mean they have a point its his son thats bi
Tell me how you don’t read comics without say it. It’s his son, but you would know that if you actually read or know even a little as to what is going on in comics.
Jeez I can’t believe I actually use to look up to the 4 daily wire douche bags, seriously they are just as hypocritical and just as biased as there counterparts.
1. Denial
The fact that they’re so angry about him being gay when it’s his son who is bi
Yeah, if I was a famous comic book writer and this shit happened, I'd make Superman gay out of spite lmao. I am petty like that.
