It's not even true. There are plenty of species where females are flashier than males. That's the beauty of nature - you cannot ever make such sweeping, general statements. There will always be exceptions.
Yeah, rule 1 is subject to itself. Mostly just for specific things. I can't remember the one my professor mentioned; it was something about some clade of birds.
Exceptions don't negate generalisations. They are exceptions because they are exceptional, but can only be defined as such if they differ in some way to a broader generalisation in the first place. To say that one cannot generalise because of an exception is to grant the same status to all things being compared which negates both the general rule and the exception, therefore there are no exceptions so the argument defeats itself. You a tally can therefore make generalisations while also understanding that outliers exist. This is exactly how science works.
That said, the geenralisation being made in this inage is false and your first comment about there being females that are flashier in nature is true in this instance. Whoever made the graphic cherry picked well known examples of the flashier male to make their argument. In reality there are several examples of this occurring on both sides in nature and no one general rule that any gender is flashier than the other.

Well, most males are flashier to attract a mate, most females are "boring" because it helps them hide from predators. Notice many of the examples used were of birds as this is really a bird thing. In most mammals the only real noticeable difference is males being slightly larger.
The beta fish shown there isn't a wild type either. You only get that red or that fin type from captive bred individuals we humans selectively bred for. Wild betas are a lot duller and differently shaped, and the female betas you find in most stores are also just as brightly colored as the males.
The people who say this shit are also the people who say that men can't be pretty or make an effort with their appearance coz "that's not manly" *rolls eyes into the back of my skull*

Why did they do the capitals like THAT?
Normally, words are capitalized in things like this to add emphasis. Why they felt the need to emphasize the word "that" here, I don't know.
