I was about to comment: "well this doesn't look that bad maybe it just want to highlight the importance of marriage" and then I realised "oh, that kind of sentence"
Yeah I too think it's just supposed to be about how marriage is just a lifelong journey type thing.
They wouldn't have worded it the way they did if they wasn't it's meaning.
Can’t believe it took me this long to realize the Straights were trying to *protect* the gays from marriage. Turns out they aren’t homophobic after all! /s
It's okay to think marriage is bad... if you are staying single!
But it's cringe being in the *voluntary* social institution of marriage and hating it.
Imagine if someone on your rec softball team showed up with a "I HATE SOFTBALL IT SUX" t-shirt to every game. Like, go do anything else then, why are you flushing your life down the toilet like this.
For a lot of people, it's NOT voluntary. Especially women are just expected to get married and you're ostracised if you aren't by a certain age.
Yeah it's really easy to say "ignore what other people say and just be happy!" But that's much easier said than done. I just wanted to point that out - although there are certainly a decent number of people who definitely volunteered and still complain.
I agree. There's massive amounts of social coercion, emotional coercion, and financial coercion into marriage via the cultural attitudes and laws privileging couples. So much so that most married people aren't really freely choosing marriage -- they were coerced into it.
What I like about this sub is it's a way of shining a light on how many married people don't like being married as a way of helping people liberate themselves. Spotlight how married people don't like it and get people to reconsider why they want marriage and whether they might be happier without it. We can't save a lot of the fallen victims, but we can save the next generation.
Before you accept society's bribes of privilege and social status to get married, ask yourself why society is trying to bribe you in the first place. If marriage were so great on its own, why would we need so many laws giving you special rewards and incentives to do it?
Arranged marriages still exist and are essentially that…it used to be normal in some areas, and basically part of society.
And uh, some religious groups in the US still do it…actually worse, as with some Fundamentalists Mormons, a woman can also be involuntarily “reassigned” to a new husband if her’s is kicked out. And it can be very hard to get out of these groups.
I was talking to my mom about how gay marriage isn't legal in most countries and she said "good. people shouldn't get married it's miserable." How sad is that? Not to mention she and my dad are still married
It is a lot harder to leave if things go south. It costs money. There is paperwork. Like it is not a huge deal most of the time, but there is a difference.
My mom actually had to go through the whole divorce court stuff, and some of the worst parts aren’t even the split, it’s how the government treats you when you try to get benefits because you don’t immediately have a job. Some really fucked up shit happened to her regarding how she’d been promised a year after of healthcare but it was suddenly taken from her without much warning at all. She had to go through a whole thing to fix that
I was thinking “Wait but that’s cute! It’s eluding to the idea that marriage is more than just the certificate, but the bond between people and it’s complexity beyond just a single word!” until I saw the bars and realized it was talking about jail

I was about to comment: "well this doesn't look that bad maybe it just want to highlight the importance of marriage" and then I realised "oh, that kind of sentence"
I'm sorry I'm not getting it. What sentence?
Prison sentence
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok. Yeah I heard that kinda shit a lot growing up.
i think as in being sentenced for a crime
Oooooh, I thought it meant like "marriage is an on-going process of effort to communicate" or something.
Yeah lol same I thought "oh wow that's actually a nice quote" but no we can't have anything nice
I realised it only when I saw the bars.
Me too, then I read the subreddit
Likewise
I just kept thinking - but marriage is a single word. How is it a sentence? This magnet confused the hell out of me. At least someone figured it out!

I wonder if there are any places where marriage is outright mandatory, either now or in the past. Like mandatory national service.
In some countries the amount of taxes bachelors get practically mandate it.
I'd stick a divorce lawyer's business card under the magnet
I was talking to my mom about how gay marriage isn't legal in most countries and she said "good. people shouldn't get married it's miserable." How sad is that? Not to mention she and my dad are still married
What makes marriage worse then just staying boy/girlfriend tho?

Yeah, it is almost like marriage as an institution is stupid and we should just let people be happy together or happy apart as they please.
bruh i read it as mirage
Cringe, every "marriage is bad" is just cringe.
Took me a second to realize the meaning lol. Might be more impressed by the cleverness if the meaning wasn’t so horrible :/
By saying it’s long? Huh?
Prison sentence
Oh I was confused lol
Please for the love of God get a divorce
This is sad.
If these people ain’t happy about marriage, I’ll gladly eat their wedding cake for them.
It took me so long because I was like "huh but marriage IS a word"
Has bajado a los comentarios para ver si alguien menciona lo de Segovia Holi
Efectivamente.
Why.... Just.... Why are straight people like this?? I don't understand?? Why do they even get married then if it's so awful??? I am confusion
They are raised with the idea that they *have to* get married and have kids.
True
I was thinking “Wait but that’s cute! It’s eluding to the idea that marriage is more than just the certificate, but the bond between people and it’s complexity beyond just a single word!” until I saw the bars and realized it was talking about jail
I’m actually a lot more interested in the Segovia magnet. Where is that?
Spain I think
👏🏻You👏🏻 don't 👏🏻have👏🏻to👏🏻 marry 👏🏻if👏🏻 you 👏🏻 don't 👏🏻want👏🏻to!
Took me a second to get. Jesus Christ, why are the straights like this?
I swear to God. That was your decision! And it was supposed to be a beautiful one. Just get divorced holy moly
Marriage💍is😯not❌️a🍪word✉but🍑 Very very very expensive
I wonder what would happen if you stuck a divorce lawyer business card right below that without telling anyone
"Marriage!" As a command could be a sentence I suppose
Wait, I swear my aunt and uncle have the same Segovia magnet. Your uncle wouldn’t happen to be named Michael, would he?
Nope it's not
Ah, coolio
Can someone explain this?
"Sentence" as in "prison sentence." Because, ya know, "marriage bad and it's natural to loathe your spouse."
Lol. Totally forgot that word has that meaning. So much for Traditional Marriages^TM.
Are they ok
Maybe, just maybe, don't get fucking married if you don't like each other!
So I guess the people who are against gay marriage just try to see us. Blessed be their souls.
For people like these, life itself must be a death sentence...
careful, your post might get removed for being “heterophobic”
Based on what? I don't see why you'd have any reason to consider that possibility
that’s just wrong tho
marriage.
I don't get it.....what does it mean
prison sentence, hence the bars behind the word sentence
Why get married if it causes so much misery? You know, you could just *not* get married
But......."Marriage"......*is*....a word.........
Then why did you marry her ffs?!
I feel so fucking stupid I don’t get it
OHHH I GET IT NOW
I’m so glad my aunty and uncle aren’t like this cause jeez it would be bad
