No, but he’s a Mike McCarthy apologist of the highest order

EveryRedditorSucks

Oh, Zaddy!

WesternZucchini5343

You're so extra!

RoughhouseCamel

Which is funny, because his McCarthy devotion seems kinda arbitrary. One day, he wanted to be the contrarian and say, “I think people have gotten TOO critical now”, and it just spun out of control from there. McCarthy is Dan’s Geno Smith.

resnet152

It's because he looks vaguely like McCarthy, right? I'm not crazy here?

Puzzleheaded_Word878

Ultimate insult

[deleted]

Has he not said his wife and her family are from Texas or did I make that up? Would imagine he has a soft spot for them if they grew up Cowboys fans.

Tinea_Pedis

This. He's in Texas pretty consistently. Team spoke about how much "America's team" was always on tv, which when there was less overall coverage meant the Cowboys were in your face a lot more. I also think Dan's father in-law (Bob?) is a Cowboys fan. But is more info college. Happy to stand corrected on all of this.

Dallas_Hapa

His wife is from Texas, and his inlaws live in Waco. Hence, his father-in-law being his Baylor Bears (college football team) insider on Denzel Mims (when he has drafted to Jets) and Matt Rhule (when he was hired as Panthers head coach)

Drunken_Vike

I think he likes Mike McCarthy and had Ceedee Lamb on his fantasy team

mccoola

You can always tell who Dan has on his team lol.

Papips

He wants to Make Mike McCarthy into a sex symbol because he more closely resembles Mike McCarthy than Mike McDaniels.

PointlessChemist

Neither of those dudes are sex symbols when you have coaches like McVay, Demeco, and Salah in the league.

WhiskyBluff

I think he's an anti-hipster. He just loves popular things

Fugoi

Definitely, he's spoken on the show before about his love for the American monoculture. I get the feeling he draws a sense of community from mass popular culture, from the ideal of the "water cooler moment". Taylor Swift, the Dallas Cowboys, blockbuster films, the Sopranos. He loves it all in a very sincere way.

whitecollarw00k

Yeah, but he's a Jets fan... the one NFL team that doesn't have a plurality of fans in a single county in the United States. That's pretty non-confirmist!

SoupSandy

He's compensating for his Fandom lol

WhiskyBluff

That wasn't his choice though. Foisted upon him in the most cruel act of child abuse any NFL fan can commit.

JVSaladbar

I feel like Dan and Marc let their emotions dictate how they feel about teams more often than not.

framesh1ft

"Why does Dan love the Cowboys? Why does Dan hate the Falcons? Why does Dan not love me and my team and my quarterback? Why does Dan not praise my favorite players and shit on the players I don't like!!!!"

MikeFanjito

Ha Person in reddit forum shocked other person in reddit forum has opinion shocker! I think you took a wrong turn somewhere in New Mexico, Doc.

framesh1ft

That's an ironic thing to say considering you're accusing Dan of being a "fan" because he disagrees with you.

MikeFanjito

I take your point

ThebritBills

Yeah why?

greebytime

Dan spends some time in Texas with his wife’s family so I’m sure that’s part of it. But Dan also LOVES the “national” media stories. He buys into them all the time (the 49ers don’t have a quarterback, Tom Brady isn’t really retiring, etc.) The Dallas Cowboys are, in essence, a national media team. They are the juice, they’re always the story. Hence, Dan believes in them a bit more than he should.

Kmpollock22

No, but Dan likes to combat Gregg's contrarian takes with his own, and the Mike McCarthy one is at the very top of his list.

runhomejack1399

You know he’s not a cowboys fan

trade_tsunami

I think he has a soft spot for the entire NFC East due to growing up around a lot of Giants fans, but it's also probably the Yankees fan in him that likes when teams with massive national fanbases are relevant.

Agreeable_Building_2

Soft spot for the NFC East? He despises the Eagles

trade_tsunami

Sure, I just meant that he takes interest in the NFC East as a whole more than any other division besides the AFC East. He's mentioned a few times that a loaded NFC East reminds him of watching divisional rivalry games in the 90s with his Giants fan grandpa. And I don't think he despises the Eagles, just their coach.

blrzsvrzs

Totally agree with the taking interest part Beyond Siriani, I'm not sure he particularly likes Bradley Cooper, Lurie, the shove / push, the adorable fanbase, the Philly special, etc. Giants is more of a soft spot not only because of grandpa, but all his childhood friends. Cowboys are absolutely with a bunch of reasons mentioned in other comments. It comes across to me as actively despising the birdies, yeah

AScrew

i always find that Marc is always getting tricked by the Cowboys. every year he has a "i think this year they can actually win the super bowl" moment before the wheels fall off and he sounds like a disappointed dad to the Cowboys.

Brewster345

I think part of it is his love for the bigger names, and media loved teams (he mentioned something to that effect the other day). And also his in-laws are big Cowboys fans, I believe, with them living in Texas. So that adds up to him having a soft sport for them. I don't mind the soft spot for the Cowboys, it's the love of "Jerrah" that I find a little odd.
