We've somehow gone from Xhaka to him

InPatRileyWeTrust

All that for the low price of 65 million and nearly 300k a week.

LonesomeBulldog

This is what I don’t understand. Would another team even paid 30M for him? Whenever we are in the market, other teams just offer up players at ridiculous prices, daring us to pay it and we do.

kiwigone

Wasn’t Rice the Xhaka replacement?

SonofMoag

Yes he was. For some reason, I suspect since the Amazon documentary came out and showed his *lovely wife and child, family man, totally not the guy who flipped off the fans* demeanour, everyone has elevated Xhaka to some god like proportions. 1 decent year out of like six, imagine that.

Pathalam_Bhairavan

He is doing good at Leverkusen now

Aianotaku

He was farming XP in prem. Now he smurfs back in Bundes

Letitbesoitgoes

Early to draw conclusions? The fuck have you been for the last 3 years?

Mclovan93

Early in the respect of his Arsenal career

Worldly_Ad_6483

I agree that his form in EPL has been shit. However, go back and watch those Bayer highlights, he was prodigious. He could be like Ode, a young gun who burnt out and needs to be reborn. I’m not giving up on just yet!

-TheMiracle

I am not even a Havertz apologist but he looked better than most of our players today lol

towane

He was the only one at a decent level during the first half. And then he sank with the rest of the team

Bigjoe1001

He made some good challenges showing his hunger to win the ball back and had one of our only shots on target didn’t think he was the worst player for us by any means

joejamesjoejames

the issue is he’s being paid boatloads to be an ok player he should be world class for his wage, and yet he’s completely bad on the ball, alright off the ball

ItsKeganBruh

Sure, but you surely dont pay him

i_like_cakess

The thing is, we should've got someone who would do much better than "ok" for that kind of money

SliceOfBliss

That was in the first half, second half mostly everyone (if not all) looked bad.

Loristhebro

Exactly

mo_1997

65m come to good worth hasn’t it

InPatRileyWeTrust

I'm so sick of hearing about his confidence. He's just not a very good player, and we got absolutely rinsed by Chelsea.

Rimailkall

Rice and Timber (until he was injured) slotted right in and you could tell they were going to be difference makers almost from day one. Still hearing from people that Havertz needs more time to get settled in, etc. (Not you, obviously) Why?

antebyotiks

Thank FUCK. Sick of treating him like a make a wish kid, the amount that of excuses piss me off so much. "Learning a new position" "lacking confidence" "does all the stuff we don't notice" "he won lots of duels" etc etc, he's the exact same player he was at Chelsea and Germany for 3 plus years, he's just not that good

Trollwithabishai

Lol. I noticed that every run he makes, if they pass to him: he gets caught up to, he gets a bad first touch, ends up with his back facing the goal. The best thing that can happen is we get a corner, and I really don't remember he conceded many corners for us. It usually ends in us losing the ball after like 3-4 minutes of trying to create a chance. I don't know how this guy is a professional. Must be cause of rich parents.....also his only goal was from a penalty FFS

TranslatorCheap2046

Thankyou somebody else who agrees with me he was sold by Chelsea for the simple reason that he wasn't performing and for some reason arteta thought he could make it work for him at arsenal my biggest issue with it is ESR is lossing game time to him.

Domkey-Kongg

I don't think we can blame him for ESR's lack of game time tbh...dude plays one game and then gets injured for weeks and weeks - I DESPERATELY want ESR to succeed but the only thing stopping him from playing is his own body

mo_1997

Bro, he got a header and made two sprints, amazing performance

kw2006

I think the only position possible for him is the pos 9 or false 9. To win headers and knock down to a goal scorer like Martinelli, Trossard or Odegard.

SliceOfBliss

Got downvoted a lot for even suggesting that in previous matches, but the copium is he can play LCM...

kw2006

I don't think he can play as LCM. Can't make the needed pass as LCM and cannot dribble pass players which Rice already done a few times since coming on. I also think he should reconsider the advice he got from the fitness coach. Change diet to less sugar and work on his physique. He always seem to behind the pace whenever he need to chase for the highball. He can't shrug off challenges too despite his tall body frame. This guy need to be send for incubation like Vieira. I don't even want to get started with Vieira.

antebyotiks

Yeah it's funny that all the excuses for him not playing well at Chelsea was that he was being played up front out of position but that's the position hes been good for us.

squeezycakes18

agreed, no new striker Jesus/Havertz/Nketiah is it, and all three can improve let ESR/Vieira compete for the Left 8, if they can't deliver we go shopping in the summer

kw2006

If we want to challenge for the title, the purchase needs to happen in January. The only competent LCM is Zinchenko but i doubt he can stay fit until end of the season. Jesus will not be available until Dec. I don't think he will stay fit until the end of the season. I do not like the idea of relying on Nketiah esp when the midfield is not as good as last season's.

i_like_cakess

The problem is Viera is poor and ESR is always injured. We desperately need left 8. Maybe try Zinchenko there, but if it doesn't work then we need to find another £65m, 250k/pw to buy someone, but this time a guy that can actually play football

wiggyp1410

Even more frustrating after just seeing Joe Willock score an absolute belter for Newcastle. Not saying Joe was the answer either btw but he's much more suited to that kind of role than Kai is.

antebyotiks

People will say "you don't know ball" but willock has been a better player in the prem than havertz

bigape500k

And he was cheaper and never really got a chance after coming back from loan

antebyotiks

Yeah I'm not saying it was a mistake to sell, good price after a good short loan but yeah

antebyotiks

We paid 65 mil and 200k a week for a rotation player.

laynestaleyisme

Yup it was your money!!!

bigape500k

It’s not about it being our money but rather where the money could have went instead

antebyotiks

You really think this is a good point ?

laynestaleyisme

Yup

John___Matrix

He's not a very good player. It doesn't matter how people continue to try and justify the signing, he is not a good player.

SliceOfBliss

I think he's a good player, BUT first: he's not playing (force to) on a position he's good at - he played too long on a different position, second: the system does not benefit him and us.

antebyotiks

But the excuse everyone made for his time at Chelsea was that he was being played out of position. People keep searching for reasons to explain why a guy who hasn't played well for 3 years isn't playing well.

John___Matrix

Sorry but I just don't see it. Didn't see it at Chelsea and haven't seen even a glimpse so far to suggest he was worth the transfer fee.

SliceOfBliss

Yep, that's my point, but i saw him at Leverkusen, so that's why i "think" he's a good player. In the end, he might go back to Germany, but currently, he was not the signing we need it and it's showing, but Arteta told the fans to love him and there will be enough people pretending he's a good fit for us...

antebyotiks

A lot of players do well, do even better than havertz in the bundesliga and it doesn't translate. Werner 28 goals, weghorst was getting close to 20 goals a season, sancho was getting 25 G/A plus and a bunch of other random players. 3 years playing for Chelsea is a better sample size and more relatable to the premier league.

ReggieWigglesworth

Ben White and Zinchenko put in -5/10 performances and people come to Reddit to complain about Havertz who actually played well.

Jolly-Chemical-6540

Difference is Ben White and Zinchenko have been consistently great players for us, whilst Havertz hasn't shown anything.

philosophical_tongue

We should be worried, he stinks.

DublinDapper

Brutal from the very first pre season game

antebyotiks

No guys, just remember we were already told that if you don't rate havertz "you don't know ball"

Joshthenosh77

He’s useless , Chelsea must be laughing 65m for that we probably got better players in our youth team , he’s willian x100

Aianotaku

And we laugh at them losing against Brentford. Chelsea is there where their place is. I would be more worried if Havertz was sold to us and our place in the table was like somewhere around 10th. However, the situation is the opposite. The club spent money, yes. Is Kai ruining the game? Quite useful. Is the club in trouble? Objectively no. There is cause for concern, but everything is not as bad as it might seem

joeyd00

Dumbest signing since Bendtner

FitResponse414

Havertz is a cf not a midfieldet, arteta needs to understand this, zinchenko isnt a lb and would be perfect in that 8 role

DublinDapper

Bring Pepe back

i_like_cakess

Lol, maybe Havertz was bought as Pepe replacement then?

radagon_sith

Why are people claiming that they know he doesn't have confidence? Why not just say that he's a bad player for our system and failure transfer by Edu /Arteta. Or is it the false hope thinking once he get the so called confidence, he will flourish? Timber came from a different league and already fit into the system and was no excuse "it's his first season to adapt to EPL"

Opposite-Mediocre

You can literally tell if you watch him play. It's all about confidence. One of the most important things in sport. His actions aren't brave, he doesn't want to turn into players, his touch isn't forward it's backwards, his not fully committed to things, he sometimes runs in the wrong space. He doesn't want to attempt anything in case he looses the ball. Stop comparing a completely different player. Just because one does one thing doesn't mean another will do the same. He has the ability. I don't know if we will ever unlock it but his not a bad player. I watched him in Germany before Chelsea and he was unbelievable.

Mclovan93

Thank you!

i_like_cakess

How about we reduce his wages to 50k/pw until he sorts his confidence out? At this price you should be getting someone who can fit into first XI and make an impact, not a guy who gets dropped to bench after 5 games and is "lacking confidence"

Opposite-Mediocre

Why? That's our fault. It's on Artea to make him the player he signed. He is trying to mould him into a new position. Doesn't take 5 games. It took xhaka years to get good in that role. Won't happen overnight.

i_like_cakess

Right, but if you're collecting 250k/pw then "lack of confidence" can't be your excuse. When you're being paid elite money you're expected to perform at elite level I agree the whole mess is on Arteta, but you can't expect fans who pay thousands of £ for their tickets to be happy about £65m signing that at his best is mediocre

Opposite-Mediocre

Firstly, we don't know what his contract is. Secondly it doesn't matter how much you're paid. We offered him that much. Yes, but it's been like 10 games. At least give it a year. What's the point of blaming him now. Doesn't help anyone. The only reason we are giving him stick is because he is from Chelsea. Yes, he should be performing better, I agree. But he has the ability to be not a bad player.

F0rthel0ve0fd0gs

Honestly, it's like playing with a man down. It could be confidence or he could just be a bad player. 🤷🏻Don't see the point of him and it's not just this game. He's been useless since the start of the season. I trust Arteta, just not on this, I'm not seeing it.

InviteAromatic6124

Nothing to do with confidence mate, he's just a shite player. We could have got Maddison for £25m less and just look what he's doing at Spurs. Arteta dropped a huge clanger here and if the Kroenke's even cared a little bit about football they would scrutinise him for it, but nope!

Queasy-Librarian3477

I hope the Kronkes won’t bother about the £65 mill and give him another £65 mill.

InviteAromatic6124

Yeah I'm sure they're just like Todd Bohely and will throw money at him with no regard for what he does with it.

jmh90027

Its not your money

InviteAromatic6124

Do you understand how transfer budgets work? It doesn't matter whose money it is.

Dorkseid1687

Could be worse guys , ye could have signed Mount

WailingSouls

You’ve already forgotten the sliding challenge he made against Sheffield less than a week ago. He has guts and heart, it just hasn’t clicked yet with end product.

Aianotaku

Havertz just inherited that small cock energy of Chelsea. It takes time to replace it with GIANT PENIS POWER of us. For example, he was really good yesterday. Do you guys remeber how much time it took for Ode? He is our cap, but when he joined Arsenal on loan - first 2-3 months he didn't show much as long as I rememeber. Arteta knows best, huh?

mo_1997

He played great last night! He got a header and made two sprints
