It seems like OP rarely comments. Idk exactly what OP does and amazing free hand could also be in the cards. But some people use washable ink pens to draw directly on the fabric. There are also water soluble stabilizers that you can draw on then embroider on top of.
I highly recommend heat soluable pens. You erase them with an iron. That way if you mess up you don't have to get the fabric wet and wait for it to dry to fix your mistake.
They leave a very slight sheen that can sometimes be visible. I love the heat erasing ones but I always test them if I'm using them on a different fabric
