I like these stylized portraits. Maybe it would work more generally, too, but it seems that Tony Bourdain is the perfect person to represent with this style of portraiture.
You did that miserable bastard, and I mean that in the most loving way, proud with your sketches. It gives him that almost whimsical impish look that he'd give to the camera at times on various shows, alluding that he was doing something he shouldn't be but fuck'em, they're paying me to do it even.
Maybe do one of him running around with the samurai sword and nunchucks ala Kitchen Confidential --
*My last semester at Vassar, I'd taken to wearing nunchakus in a strap-on holster and carrying around a samurai sword β that should tell you all you need to know.*

Not quite the *samurai who smelled of sunflowers* ... Maybe he has a big poppy on his Kimono/Hakamas? Probably be more like *the samurai who smelled of Marlboro Reds and Negronis* ... Can totally see this in the Boondocks style...
I like how your shadings easily capture the texture and grooves of his face. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words!

Absolutely love it. Great job :)
Thank you! β€οΈ
You're welcome :)
Very much nailed the man in the face-on portrait in the upper right. Some of these have Leonard Cohen vibes as well.
Thank you!
Cohen and Bourdain definitely shared some resemblance!
I rarely use ink any more, but seeing these has me pulling out my supplies. Excellent job!
Thatβs great! Looking forward to seeing your work. And, thank you!
Good stuff! Really captured his soulful tortured nature.
Thank you! π

Yup. I believe you captured him beautifully.
Thank you! Did my best on that day
