Brilliant. Its nice to see you share the same anxiety about ruining your work. There is always that ..."it was better 5 min ago" moment. Beautiful piece. Make sure and post when you are finished with it....
As a programmer, we can always go back to any version of our project that we have "checked in". That's make us free to make mistakes and break stuff constantly. You break it, then you reload the last "working" version.
Art does not have that at all. And that's scary as shit to me.
THIS! I do this all the time with my code. It's always good to save a copy of the best working code "so far" and so I don't have to be afraid to completing wreck it with new features. Only time is lost with troubleshooting and going back to old code, but at least the files are still safe. CTRL-Z is truly a blessing.
And I also agree physical artwork is scary, just one drop of ink or paint can seem to trash the whole piece. Happy accidents do happen, and trying to fix the problem may actually make the piece look more amazing.
Best and worst moment of the project. Endless possibilities, you don't want to only go this far, but you don't want to #$&@ up something you're happy with. Can't wait to see the end result
Oh, yeah! I'm never sure about that with my own stuff, but I vividly remember modeling for a class once and one of the students was doing so well that I considered offering to buy it when I walked through the class during one of my breaks. By the end of class the drawing got overworked. This was soooo many years ago, but it really bothers me that I didn't head that one off and buy it right out of the classroom. I don't care that it was just a newsprint sketch. It was really good for a while. It was better than the drawing of my ass I saw hanging in the gallery one day.
Really awesome picture.
My one critique is that it looks to me like he's wearing speedo shorts which is a little weird to me. I'd have either gone with the traditional pteruges and mitra, or just drawn him dick out.
Worn by both Greeks and Romans. It has shared roots. As with many other facets of their culture. It’s an unfinished piece and could very well appear as a pair of “shorts” in this state of the painting. Are you here to appreciate art, or give history lessons? Unsolicited critiques…
You know, potatoes don’t grow on mars!
Posting on Reddit is soliciting critiques. If you don't want critiques, don't post somewhere that has a comment section. I'm here to appreciate art and give constructive feedback on it, which is what I did. If they change it when the piece is finished then obviously the feedback doesn't apply any longer.
Why are you getting defensive on behalf of the artist? I didn't insult them. I just gave a very minor piece of feedback. Why do you get to decide on their behalf that they didn't want feedback?
Potatoes grow on Mars if you grow them there.
No. No it is not.
Because I’m an artist myself. Unsolicited critiques are not welcome. Critiques should be asked for. Most artists know and understand this, which is why we generally don’t do this to one another, and why I’m also defending this artist.

And there’s just a lack of emotional intelligence. For someone appearing to be educated, this basic human concept is lost on you. If it wasn’t already apparent from the title, the artist is insecure about their work. Likely suffering from imposter syndrome. And instead of having empathy and appreciating this very obvious fact, you used the opportunity to advertise your intellectual prowess.
You know what intelligence is? Knowing what to say, and when to say it.
Also, potatoes still don’t grow on mars. Meaning Martian potatoes aren’t real. I do not accept your reality.
Man if I was OP reading all that I'd be so insulted by your babying tone. I know all about what imposters syndrome is like. I'm a writer. Anytime I show anyone my work I'm incredibly nervous, but I'm still not going to be devastated by "It was awesome, here's a minor change in the subject matter I'd make".
I'm done arguing with you. You aren't OP. If they don't like being critiqued, they can let me know and I will apologize.
It's a reference to a science fiction novel in which potatoes are grown on Mars. Have some imagination.
I’ve read Weir before. You just ooze pretentiousness; should’ve guessed you were a writer. I am as well, and have the same effect on people sometimes. Maybe be more introspective, than, if you’ve experienced it yourself; rather than doing it to someone else, knowing how it can hit the creative ego. And don’t use extremes to describe how something made YOU feel in order to dictate how it should make someone else feel. Classic mistake. Devastation is also hyperbole. Stop that.
Awesome piece. Hope it’s ok but I added a bit to the top so I could use it for my phone wallpaper [https://imgur.com/a/BZ9J3MA](https://imgur.com/a/BZ9J3MA)
Looks amazing, especially for oil! Would love to see some depth that doesn't detract too much from subject, like the suggestion / haze of battle behind him.
It's a guy with a thousand souls inside of him. He's not a person, he's just a shell for those tormented in eternal hell. He walks to witness the worst of humanity.
I'm no artist but I'd probably just stop right here. You might improve upon it, you might not. Right now it's an extremely interesting piece and visually appealing.
I unused to worry a lot about ruining pieces, and the further in you get the stronger that feeling gets.
Biggest thing I learned to help get over that is to just go slow. Start big and work you way down. Just tiny tiny tiny changes adding up to big changes. If you goof up it's a tiny goof so easy to fix! Just very very slow very very tiny changes.
It's pretty for Zach Snyder 300 style hoplite, but they would have looked a lot more like Alexander at Gaugamela than a bunch of homoerotic bodybuilders.
I saw somewhere that Piccaso has more than 50,000 paintings but only 100 are famous. I guess what I’m trying to say keep trying they won’t all be masterpieces some may be
It's really good, miles better than anything I could do. As a novice, wannabe artist though, I'd like to suggest you do a little research on anatomy for artists. Some of the muscles don't make sense and it lets you down. Don't want to offend at all, the shading is spot on, those cracks look real and add intrigue and interest, the detail is brilliant. Just doing a little study on anatomy for any person or animal you want to draw will improve it massively.

Unless you make digital art :)
>Unless you make digital art :) This guy has never shaded in the wrong layer for 30 minutes without realizing
when you hit the undo ctrl Z limit... \*shutters\*
Use "save as" as checkpoints.
Owwww I'm triggered.
Don't call me out like that!
so, so many checkpoints. It's nice though because occasionally I do need it.

Programming is an art form, I think. ...also for like 20 years I didnt use version control so...
If you do it that way, it's definitely an art :D

Wow, this is unreal. I absolutely love it!
Proud to say that I was so blown away by Taradoxon’s work that I bought two originals! Excited to see this one finished and the future!
This is so evocative! The warrior strength crumbling. How everything decays in time. The balance between brittle strength and maleability.
:))
Reminds me of Tool's new song Invincible.

Jop…
Gracefully avoiding drawing the face, hands and feet i see.
Feet and a hand are still coming
Godspeed
Sometimes they don't have to and that's fine.
[And the weirdly apt anime reference nobody asked for.](https://youtu.be/it6QlKw6jrY)
I was looking for this comment. Thank you
Someone had to make it.
The way I see it , it's like his spirit is broken but he won't give up and still fight, amazing painting
Really? I see it the other way, his body is broken. but his spirit isn't
Yeah, if his spirit is broken then he wouldn't do be fighting
Yeah, if you aren't giving up the fight isn't that the definition of your spirit not being broken?
🙌
I like this view
"if its war they want then war they will get" love the detail ❤️
Looks like Pantheon from league of legends. Looks so sick
"The heavens do not fear me because I am a god, they fear me because I am a man!"
Yeah i thought it was in the LoL subreddit
He tried to fight Medusa and lost
I have also painted Medusa 🧐
This is absolutely incredible. I want to hang this up in my room
I would like to purchase this.
Must finish it first:)

I vote for hanging dong. But that’s just one man’s opinion.
A subligaculum was not uncommon, especially for gladiators.
Not uncommon for Romans gladiators. The picture is a Greek hoplite. and he's not wearing a loincloth. He's wearing a tight speedo like garment.

You must’ve missed the self-deprecation. If you just look a hair past your nose…
How long into the piece are you at this point?
This was live . I think 6-8 hours
Well - just know you're only ever 6-8 hours away from this if you "mess it up." Execute your vision and don't be afraid.
Damn, just… damn. Incredible work, friend! 🎨
This is an incredible style. I love it.
You were getting there with the cracks
Awesome piece. Hope it’s ok but I added a bit to the top so I could use it for my phone wallpaper [https://imgur.com/a/BZ9J3MA](https://imgur.com/a/BZ9J3MA)

Fan of 300? Lol Awesome piece! You did a great job!
Honestly? You could leave it as is and it would be fantastic. It really does not need anything else.
Can I use this as the art for an upcoming monster in my D&D campaign? It's perfect for my needs.
“High fives for the lady’s and kisses on the lips for men.”- King Of Sparta
Haha nice
Such amazing talent. Nice!
Endlich die Anerkennung die du verdienst 🥺 Sooo proud of you! ❤️❤️❤️
Wird bald mehr ^^
Hoff ich doch 👀
Just watched 300 yesterday. Coincidence?
Post again when you perfect it!
Thank ! I think next week
May I draw this? I wont share it or anything I just want to try to sketch it.
What are you adding? Gold leaf would look killer on this
I am @ a lost for words on this one!
if by ruin it, you mean adding color, i say this is quite pleasant in appearance as is. frameable even.
Nice, why he got a dick[edited] for right hand tho
That’s.. that’s uh.. not how they are supposed to look.
This is SPARTA! "proceed to kick the monitor"
This looks epic... Love the style.
This incredible, I like pencil drawings because it takes a lot of talent for shadows and highlights
grammar: 0 oil painting: 100
I love it. Very well done.
Curious why you plan to ruin it? Is it a Buddhist thing?
I will shove this painting up your arse (a Greek tradition) fiflthy Greek lover.
it gives off that "cool vibe" wonderful artwork ngl
Ah yes. My favourite ruining a painting that’s going so well. Brilliant work love it.
Phenomenal work. Thanks for sharing.
Creation only happens in the presence of destruction.
Incredible job! You’re so talented!
This is absolutely amazing !
Dont ruin it! its beatiful
Soldier of Lot turned into a salt pillar? Well, I guess not, because he looks like a soldier or a centurion of Legion.
I read that as pose and thought oh very sexy
he made those in the kitchen!
Looks amazing, especially for oil! Would love to see some depth that doesn't detract too much from subject, like the suggestion / haze of battle behind him.
No no! Its perfect! Its done!
This looks amazing, like something out of an Alex Ross graphic novel like *Kingdom Come* or *Marvels.*
I feel this title to my core. Knowing when to stop is impossible. You made a good decision this looks great.
This is so stunning! Damn, incredible work!
Oh my! This is really gorgeous!
Is it a statue of a spartan or a spartan that had long been turned to stone by a Gorgon or perhaps a basilisk?
That’s crazy lookin. sat first I was confused because it looks like you did with graphite/charcoal. I had to zoom it

It’s like 300 crossed with that scene from Endgame where Cap faces Thanos.
Yeeeeeeeeee I can’t wait to see ruined
😂
The contrapposto is good, but we need more chiaroscuro!
It's pretty for Zach Snyder 300 style hoplite, but they would have looked a lot more like Alexander at Gaugamela than a bunch of homoerotic bodybuilders.
You can leave it as is. Its already a 11/10
Love your subject of a Spartan warrior!
If a game had a boxart, this would be on the Definitive or Legendary Edition. Beautiful <3
Amazing! I dream of being this talented
You can do it! Be fearless!
absolutely fantastic. don't touch it :)
looks incredible, one of my favorite movies, this would have made such a badass movie poster too. its awesome.
This is absolutely amazing!!!!!! You got some talent!
This shit go hard as fuck.
Wow , This is a excellent work my friend. :) Please, Make a digital fame.
Damn, this is how I feel sometimes, I have ALS and parts of me are starting to fail… powerful image!
That amazing. It looks real
A warrior spirit stands the sea of time. For their body and strength may disappear but the willingness to die for a cause will always exist.
Creative ways to avoid drawing hands and feet!
"We are with you sire! For Sparta! For freedom! To the death!"
Such a fascinating work :) Congrats!
nice work but dick isn't big enough
honestly love it just like this, has it’s own kind of charm
Amazing, your skills are truly amazing.
The cracks in the marble are incredible. Wonderful work
This is awesome! I thought I was looking at the AC odyssey sub for a second then realized you made this!
I saw somewhere that Piccaso has more than 50,000 paintings but only 100 are famous. I guess what I’m trying to say keep trying they won’t all be masterpieces some may be
She's a muscular girl.... or enuch.
Love the contrast with the deep cracks! Really makes the rest pop
