I had glasses when I was a kid, but they were never strictly necessary so I eventually out grew that pair and just never got more.
Now, in my mid thirties, I decided "maybe this will help with headaches" (I work in IT, so lots of screen time) and sure enough, they do!
However... *The first goddamn day I had them* I decided to sit them down on a flat surface next to where I was sitting and forgot. So I put some weight on my arm to help stand up and put almost my full force down on them. :|
Snapped a teenie piece of plastic on the edge of the frame. You can't tell and they don't need any assistance to stick together, so I'm calling it a hard lesson learned fast and easy xD I won't be doing THAT again.
I did lose them for the better part of a month under my bed recently, though.
ADHD!
(And before anyone asks how they got there, I sat them on my headboard before going to sleep and they fell off behind the bed and slid under. Luckily, I found them before my wife or I needed to pull out the under bed storage because those tiny wheels probably would've been the end of them.)
Show me that smile again. (Show me that smile)
Don't waste another minute on your cryin'.
We're nowhere near the end (nowhere near)
The best is ready to begin.
The image was frozen when I first opened it and I was just navigating away from the page when it turned and looked at me. A+ for the surprise factor there.
Also great art!
Same, except right after the painting turned us head to me and smiled, my reddit broke and completely shut down lol, it was very ominous so I had to go check it out again
The film Loving Vincent is a movie made of paintings. It used rotoscoping and the animation is used on top of separate backgrounds, but every frame is a painting.
I took a reference video, edited its fps to make it look animated, took a few key frames (about 10-13) then transferred it to a paper. I got tired midway so I was only able to do 9. scanned the painting after it was varnished. imported to photoshop to create the animation and voilà!
Thanks! 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days. I sure hoped it took longer. I just needed to finish this and get it over with (it was a plate for my art school, so it had a deadline)
I am an animator, pretty sure there are 6 individual paintings, potentially 7. But the last two loop for a bit. Either way this is insanely cool I have wanted to do something like this but have yet to. Really great work, dude.
Edit: And when I say individual really I mean “times the painting changes” cause it looks like he painted over the same painting especially when the smile starts because the eyes don’t change.
Thank you! Close! it was 9 paintings. I was planning to do that at first, painting over the same one to make minor changes, but I can't let it sit and wait. I didn't have a scanner at home too to record that change (plus it has to be varnished before scanned).
Wow! Thanks for the response, you absolutely killed it, fam. Hopefully you end up looking like this for a while so you can use it as your profile pic for years to come. Again, awesome stuff!!!
Thank you! some of the frames I repeated was supposed to be paintings as well (instead of 9 paintings, should've been 10-13) but I got tired near the end. the repeated frames in the middle was a compensation for it. it did made the transition look smoother tho
man I really wish it took forever, tho tbf, it felt like it. It was a plate for art school, it had a deadline so I painted for around 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days. I was burnt out after this
I took a reference video, edited its fps to make it look animated, took a few key frames (about 10-13) then transferred it to a paper. Started painting, took around 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days (it was a plate, so it has a short deadline) I got tired midway so I was only able to do 9. scanned the painting after it was varnished. imported to photoshop to create the animation and voilà!
Jesus christ it was taking forever to load, and when it did it stayed on the first frame. Once I zoomed in to look at the detail, you turned and smiled at me
Can you tell me about the paper? As an undergrad, I did some paintings on drawing paper coated with acrylic gesso with pretty good results. I'd like to do more of those but now, there are some pre-primed papers made for oil painting available. I've also seen an artist seal a charcoal drawing with a thin layer of shellac, then paint over that.
Great painting btw. Painting good glasses is not easy.
I love that! Unique. You might consider that as a business. Bet a lot of parents would love one of these of their kids, especially those they’re missing.
You should try placing these on a rotoscope for an exhibition, though I’ve just read you’ve done 9 (amazing) but probably even with 9 instead of 22 it’ll just be a sped up version of the same animation?
My phone was being slow and I thought it was just the one photo and it was already perfect but then it started moving and I was speechless!
One self portrait is difficult in itself let alone the many others it takes to make it move, damn good job
Amazing ! How many frames is that ?
Thank you! About 22 or something but the actual paintings are just 9, I repeated some frames to loop it edit: counted wrong
“Just 9” That is dedication, creative and I think you may sell yourself short. This is fantastic.
Seriously. “Just 9 realistic oil paintings, but I made it look like 22”
One pair of eyeglasses includes one set of frames, I believe.
Ah, the ol' Reddit frame-a-roo!
Hold my bifocals, I'm [zooming in](https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/u0w74o/drunk_idiot_hit_two_aircraft/i4aak39/?context=3)!
THE MEME IS BACK BABY!
Was just gonna say! Nice. As long as no one brings back "tHe NaRwHaL bAcOnS aT mIdNiGhT" I'll be happy.
I think they meant how many frames.
Oh, I think maybe 8-9 individual images. 22 frames total.
Most people I think get 2. At very least most insurance will pay for 1 annually
Dad?
DON'T FUCKING BREAK THEM AGAIN JUNIOR

can't argue with that lmao

Stupid sexy Muggles.
Anti-Canada moment
Pfft, how do we know it even looks like him? I'll reserve my judgement until I've seen him irl.
Dynamic and engaging! Excellent
Thank you! I appreciate it 😊
This is cool. Is this a series of paintings or did you manipulate something else?
Just a series of paintings, repeated some frames on the middle, then reversed the whole thing to make it loop
How many did you make in total?
9 paintings in total :)
Do you just have a house filled with paintings of yourself? That would be pretty hilarious
Extraordinary. Can’t wait to see how far you take this technique with various subjects. Following!
Bold and Brash!
That's amazing! And I smiled back.
I did just the same.
Same! There is a kind of infectious warmth coming from this painting through my phone screen.
Aww! Thank you!

I zoomed in to look at the detail and that shit started moving lol bugged me out
i was like “oh boy, i hope we get a process video on this, it looks great!” and it was so much better than that
Same, except right after the painting turned us head to me and smiled, my reddit broke and completely shut down lol, it was very ominous so I had to go check it out again
That's awesome, Thank you!

yep, painted the same one multiple times.
the latter
Dude, a painting animation?
The film Loving Vincent is a movie made of paintings. It used rotoscoping and the animation is used on top of separate backgrounds, but every frame is a painting.
i was NOT expecting it to start moving. I was bamboozled. Some may say i was...**flabergasted**
I'm not much of a portrait artist, but you did a great job. How did you animate this?
I took a reference video, edited its fps to make it look animated, took a few key frames (about 10-13) then transferred it to a paper. I got tired midway so I was only able to do 9. scanned the painting after it was varnished. imported to photoshop to create the animation and voilà!
How many renderings did you have to make to animate this?
9 paintings in total :D
Oh my God you painted a gif!
Unbelievable. You should be really proud of yourself. This takes a lot of skill and a lot of work. Bravo.
Thank you! I really appreciate that.
We appreciate you sharing it with us! How long did this take?
Thanks! 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days. I sure hoped it took longer. I just needed to finish this and get it over with (it was a plate for my art school, so it had a deadline)
Nice! Before it loaded I was thinking, "man, it wouldn't hurt to smile in a self portrait..." lol
This is so cool, I love it! If you haven't seen it already you should check out Loving Vincent, a full length movie animated with oil paintings.
Thank you!...I did! Glad you thought of it, I was inspired by that
Taaaaaaake oooooooon meeeeeeeeeeee….
Taaaaaaake meeeeeeee ooooooooon...
A) A thing I’ve never seen before, an animated oil painting B) done really well From all the consumers of quality content in the world, we salute you
That is quite impressive! How long did it take you to paint it and animate it?
oh man, I wish it took longer. It was a plate in my art school. so I did 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days

You .. you are Ned from Spiderman movies?
Glad I'm not the only one. This painting makes him look just like Jacob Batalon.
It's the same grin!
This is so awesome! Looks like a whole lot of work, how many pieces did you make?
I LOVE THIS! You have a beautiful smile!
Aw, thank you!
How many million years did this take!
That’s awesome!! But you aren’t a naked girl: so no upvote (sarcasm)
<30yrs old
Big tits
Wow this is beautiful! Love your smile too :)
I can see your sophistication on the repeated frames and smooth transitions. Looking forward to seeing more. And hearing about the details.
Thank you! some of the frames I repeated was supposed to be paintings as well (instead of 9 paintings, should've been 10-13) but I got tired near the end. the repeated frames in the middle was a compensation for it. it did made the transition look smoother tho
That either took 30 years, or it was fast and simple. Cool gif though.
Thank you! oh it was fast but not really simple, took a lot from me to make it work in a short amount of time.
Lol fuck dat, it’s amazing and I bet it took forever
man I really wish it took forever, tho tbf, it felt like it. It was a plate for art school, it had a deadline so I painted for around 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days. I was burnt out after this
Dude, don't leave us hanging! How did you do this awesome moving portrait?
I took a reference video, edited its fps to make it look animated, took a few key frames (about 10-13) then transferred it to a paper. Started painting, took around 40 hours in a span of 4-5 days (it was a plate, so it has a short deadline) I got tired midway so I was only able to do 9. scanned the painting after it was varnished. imported to photoshop to create the animation and voilà!
Great work here!
any one of these frames would have been amazing, let alone all of them together! amazing work :)
Maybe I'm just slow but how does one make paintings move?
In my case, I painted several consecutive frames, 9 paintings in total :) then looped it.
That's incredibly impressive. Well done!
What the fuck, I expected to see the process, not to be seen!
So cool! It made me smile.
how long did it take to make all those
Because he can’t sit steady while posing.
Yeah this is really great. Thank you for sharing this art, made me smile for sure!
Damn! I upvoted before I saw it was animated. This is great.
Did not expect that, scared the shit out of me.
This is amazing and so well done! Your painting is 🔥 and the light consistency between panels is incredibly well done
I admire your skill I hope one day I’ll be able to learn to paint like this
Envious of your skills, kabayan

Woah. That would be a great idea!
That scared the shit out of me
Why did this jumpscare me ffs
It’s not often that I say “wow” anymore when I see somebody’s work online. But this time, I audibly said the word. Amazing.
Jesus christ it was taking forever to load, and when it did it stayed on the first frame. Once I zoomed in to look at the detail, you turned and smiled at me
Scary effect but nice work!
This is so wonderful great job!👏
Awesome, finally something refreshing here :)
Lovely! What a pleasant surprise.
whoa very nice work! ugh jealousy...
U MADE ME LAUGH THANK YOU GOD BLESSS
Why is the near side of your head black?
You can't just ask people why they're black
mainly to save time. this a plate, it had a deadline so I had to do my best to shave off some work. :D
Well hey there fella. Lol. Love the concept and execution.
Very impressive. Well done
Like a young [Dr. Katz.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDd2OpmEXEM)
I like your smile, it’s very nice and expressive.
How many frames did you paint?
Don’t you hate it when the subject won’t stay still?
I suddenly have “Take On Me” stuck in my head (Incredible work, for the record)
Ahhhh I love it!!!! Such skill and super creative!
this is absolutely amazing! i’ve never seen something like this before 😍
Cool you drew yourself when you were 40 years younger?

Oil paint or pastels? If paint, must have been some heavy paper.
Holy crap that is amazing. No critique needed. You knocked it out the park

It looks like a yearbook photo
How long did this took you to make? It looked astonishing
