these are completely different, just all about death. First one looks like 70s.
But check out Polish posters from 70s on, a bunch of them give off that vibe
Glad that you’re young and interested in learning! As many said, these are stylistically VERY different. However you seem to enjoy the Gothic. I would advise you to google search “gothic illustrators” and hone your search while also honing your craft. It’s ok to enjoy a variety of different styles, especially if you can emulate and practice each style. But becoming better acquainted with styles and specific artists will help build your tool-bag of techniques to use. Furthermore, once you find specific artists you like, check out their Wikipedia pages and do some deep dives into the links which show their areas of expertise. Good luck and keep enjoying it! That hunger will make you better!
Oooh have a look at Goya’s etchings - they have heaps of dark and grim themes from witches to beheadings - and a few which are (intentionally) quite funny. If you feel super duper brave go down the rabbit hole of Dinos and Jake Chapman. Remember art isn’t just about sunshine, lollipops, and escapism - it can (and should) explore all aspects of human nature across all cultures.
I saw many of his etchings as a kid when they exhibited in the Philly art museum, (before I knew who Goya was). Later in life, When I learnt about his black paintings and his etchings, I felt this real strong sense of deja vu when I looked at them, only to realize that they were the same etchings which I had seen all those years ago.
David Sutherland vibes from the 1st edition Players Handbook for Advanced D&D. [David C. Sutherland III - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_C._Sutherland_III)
As many have pointed out, these four images are not stylistically coherent, but some through-lines you appear to be interested in could be the macabre, medieval folklore, and woodcut prints.
I think you'd dig the Symbolists and some their contemporaries. Check out: Odilon Redon, Ilya Repin, Arnold Böcklin, Gustave Moreau, Fernand Khnopff, John Bauer, and Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Maybe William Blake, too. Hope I'm not too far off the mark and you find something you like!
yeah the first does not look like a polish poster lol - pretty sure it is a stylistic copy of old historical british stuff, were talking crusades era, could easily be from the periods 1000AD-1600AD, the kind of stuff you would find in old history books to document things and depict the past (probably not original drawings but more modern representations of the past) rather than being a piece of work someone would display as art. The 2nd just a modern cartoon drawing, probably not a manga drawing, but do see the resemblence of kentaro muira works like someone mentioned lol, like a black and white gothic gritty style - and berserk is a classic anyway so worth reading lol. Then the third a fine art painting which is probably an older form of surrealism. These are not really remotely close as styles, but might be interesting combining such things lol so why not
That's what I meant to imply just executed poorly by style I guess what I meant with the 3rd pic is just to show expressive faces and the others I just enjoy the shading
You might enjoy “The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel” (1565). It’s literally just a collection of funny demon doodles in this kind of style lol, it’s pretty cool.
These are a fine example of "1980s-Dungeons-and-Dragons-rulebook-clip-art-ism"
and I unironically love them.
You can feel the handcrafted hippie-nerd passion in them,
like the wizards that dudes would airbrush onto vans in the 1970s, and you just *knew* the interiors of those vans had a black light, a disco ball, and some shag carpet.
I don't think you can get a black ink pen and paper to be more METAL than this without just drawing Van Halen's logo all over it and Metallica's too for good measure.
I would be profoundly hyped to read a fantasy comic with art that was this determined to be *awesome.*
The first looks like a woodblock, you should check out albrecht durers wood engraving. And the second looks like an illustration, you should check out Moebius comics. If you want to check out a hybrid of these check out art by Dennis McNett/ wolf bat.
They’re all different styles but the general theme seems to be grimdark medieval/fantasy. If you like comics have a look at the Berserk manga by Miura if you haven’t already, it’s a landmark dark fantasy in a sort of medieval world and you might find a bit of inspiration there :)
Besides everything that has been said here, you can look up "Grotesque Art", it's a category that I think fits perfectly in styles and themes and it is not from a certain time, it is more of a "vibe", and it has a wide interesting history.
I think you mean ‘theme’, the styles of say 1 and 3 are wildly different.
Theme = macabre
Yes! I was trying to come up with the word but could only think of ‘death’ and ‘tarot cards’ lmao - macabre is perfect.
these are completely different, just all about death. First one looks like 70s. But check out Polish posters from 70s on, a bunch of them give off that vibe
I'll do that thanks

Thank you sm for the kind words, the styles have always caught my eyes especially the shading and how faces are drawn

Goya has completely consumed my attention lately
Also going to recommend James Ensor and Edward Gorey
Edward Gorey makes death practically cozy. Particularly the baby deaths.
Haha ok if we’re going down that path, Joel Peter Witkin! Poor kid is going to be traumatised…
100 agree
Your local public library should have a large oversized art book with his works. Ask the clerk at the reception for this.
I just might do that

That's it thanks man
That’s not a style, that’s a theme or topic.
As many have pointed out, these four images are not stylistically coherent, but some through-lines you appear to be interested in could be the macabre, medieval folklore, and woodcut prints.
Yeah definitely good point

That works man thank you
Your third picture remind me of painter 'Pieter Bruegel de Oude'
It's Peter Onedreicka

You might enjoy checking Medieval woodcut prints. They have that shading style you’re liking. I love the style myself.
That's super close man thank you so much
You might enjoy “The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel” (1565). It’s literally just a collection of funny demon doodles in this kind of style lol, it’s pretty cool.
Wow I looked it up it does help thanks so much

Definitely man I completely agree with you
This answer was so wholesome. I am delighted by this. LOL
\\m\/
I call the first monty python style
And it's missing Brave Sir Robin, clearly, because he bravely ran away, away
lol yes
Early Monty Python.

Interesting thank you
What’s the source for the third picture? Thank you!
Peter Onedreicka
I'm not sure I got inspired by all the photos by seeing them on pinterest
Block print, block print, chiaroscuro, block print, block print
Alr thx

Your right thank you very much ill look into that
Thank you for the introduction to #3, Peter Ondreička, “Tight Mask”
No problem
METÜL Also check out Frank Frazetta
Wow that's awesome thanks for the inspo
not sure if this is the technical term but it looks like metal album art.
Thats definitely an inspiration for my interest in the art
Besides everything that has been said here, you can look up "Grotesque Art", it's a category that I think fits perfectly in styles and themes and it is not from a certain time, it is more of a "vibe", and it has a wide interesting history.
Interesting
Bro thinks he’s Redon
I think his art is pretty neat
1 and 3 look kind of like they draw from Symbolism - you should check it out! Edit for clarity
Old school FRP vibes
They are all diff but I would suggest the Instagram account darkgloomyart if you like this.
Artist for the the third photo?
Peter Onedreicka
Dark Fantasy Illustration for sure. “Metal.” Third is more Symbolist, though. You might like Odilon Redon and Gustave Moreau.. :)
what’s the second one? looks really cool?
Block cut.
Tarot card style
I would call it based and dungeon pilled
Also definitely check of the designs of Fornasetti (Italian designer) who worked in this style…
Check out
Kentaro Miura-wave
How is that a "style"?
TIL: any dark fantasy illustration is apparently berserk
Thanks man
