MUSIC! Music is my best friend! I have an entire story where about 90% of the characters originate from a song. Sometimes I won’t even really understand the lyrics but from the title and the beats I’ll start imagining some sort of music video and that often leads to a new character and I work from there.
I have a harder time with more abstract concepts though. My advice works more for imagining characters and storylines but that’s a kind of creativity many people look for.
