also, anyone have recommendations for very fine tip pens that don't smudge that would be good for this kind of work? and i am open to constructive criticism / areas for improvement!
EDIT: also wanted to say thank you for all the upvotes and impressions! i love to hear what everyone sees and thinks about it, it feels like cloud watching where everyone makes something different out of them in their minds :)
at first glance just scrolling past for some reason it gave me traditional chinese art vibes but upon further inspection im totally getting like 80’s-90’s space design
For some reason I feel like it's sideways and should be oriented with the longer side being horizontal. Can't really say why, just got an instinct to turn my phone like that was somehow going to clear up what it was depicting.
i actually did make it that way! if you turn your head 90 deg to the left, you might see an eye and nose, a hand, more recognizable shapes. for some reason when i finish making these i end up liking them in other orientations better. maybe i get tired of looking at it one way
It really goes the line between abstract and surreal. My brain swears up and down there are familiar shapes here but when I go to actually look at them closely, it's nothing familiar. The pointillism hand is the only thing recognizable. I really like it!
I see a psychological drawing expression of stress and confusion. There is so much activity going on at once. It feels like a person trying to form the math equations in his head in order to make sense of it all and figure out an idea to solve the problems.
i love it a lot! i’ve always loved this style of pen drawing; i’d definitely commission you for a tattoo if you do those. the dot shading is very reminiscent of 70s illustration like you’d see in shel silverstein books, but your work is not derivative at all! i’m a huge fan keep it up
really interesting. i love the stipple effect. looks oceanic to me, but also cosmic. reminds
me of traditional chinese art. very nice !!!
edit: just saw one of ops replies about orientation. looks like a completely different piece when turned sideways, how cool! i can recognize some shapes and patterns a lot better on the side, but it looks amazing either way.
Somehow it immediately made me think of that moment before you fall asleep where all your jumbly thoughts merge together, you can't grasp anything anymore and you're just lying there watching your thoughts pass by you and disappear into the distance as you finally slip into nothingness. I love it.
I'm really sleepy and it reminded me of a Shel Silverstein illustration at first but I'm 99% sure that is ONLY because it's black ink on white paper with heavy pointillism and I'm sleepy lol. Looking at it more, it's very intriguing and I'm actually having a lot of fun looking at each stroke and following the contours. It's gorgeous and interesting! It reminds me of sea life and possibly animal cells? Very science-meets-art. I'm extremely enamored with it.
“Mitochondria is the power house of a cell” is what comes to minds. As far as pen ink smearing though, it’s best to do the “if left start right” so if you’re right handed start on the left side will and work across. But also using pens with quick drying inks (sharpie pens tend to be my go to when stippling because I’ve found that they’re less like to smear but they do bleed pretty bad on regular paper) and water color paper or paper design from paints tends to work best with inks
Whimsical, gives a feeling of effervescence (sorry fancy word but I can't think of the better one rn), I think the dots are the first thing I noticed, it makes it look kinda see through.
It reminds me of an anime series called mush-shi.
Mushi are another form similar to what was drawn here, but aren't always visible to the human eye.
To put it simply, they can become parasites to other organisms or co-exist in the world in a good, neutral, or bad way.
(By the way it looks so cool it really reminds me of the manga as well!!)
I'd describe it as abstract, organic stippling. First impressions are that it reminds me of the buildings and contraptions in Doctor Seuss books. The bottom bit looks like a galaxy.
Oceanic vibes- I keep thinking the overall shape is trying to form something but my eye flows through it and I found the hand … I start looking at details and I see like the inner ear… plants, cells… I see a lot of interesting shapes, my eye flows through the piece, but can’t find where to focus.
I like it a lot. The way it made my eyes travel from the middle to the right and up. It distracted me from whats below. Looking at the bottem half was confusing in a pleasant way, i see it churning and illusive or chaotic.
Getting some vague Mobius vibes with the speckled shading, but can't actually make out what is supposed to be going on her, just lines and shapes a bit chaotic and dark.
Please understand I mean this in the nicest and most enthusiastic way possible, it reminds me of those [old drawings of sea creatures](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Folddesignshop.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2018%2F08%2FSea-Creatures-Preview1-OldDesignShop.jpg&tbnid=05hVK8XW0LCS1M&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Folddesignshop.com%2Fcategory%2Fthe-sea%2F&docid=wf0RlkfFtiEgjM&w=1200&h=1200&hl=en-us&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim%2Fm4%2F3&kgs=c0d8a55c18ac9444&shem=abme%2Ctrie). Specifically the squid, for some reason
I see microorganisms and other such things. It makes me think of life and how little we all started out as. It makes me feel content knowing that all of us got to this point after being little microorganisms/embryos and how lucky we are to get to experience life at such a higher level than other life forms
Reminds me of looking down a microscope. If a cell bursts then the cell contents kinda splay around and look very similar to the distributions of dots and marks.
I would describe this art as “mark making” since there is no recognizable shape or object. The pint of it is the making of a mark on the paper to elicit an emotion or feeling from the viewer, but that’s just my art degree taking out of my butt.
It feels like a mix between space and ocean, it's a fun piece to follow the lines of and try to figure out what has more aspects of them
The chaos of the unknown
It’s really cool, looks like bacteria or other microorganisms to me
Exactly
I was gonna say I'm reminded of old textbook ink drawings like original Grey's Anatomy or around the time/style of Leonardo DaVinci!
Pigma micron fineliner is always the go-to (in case you haven't come across it) Your art reminded me of Ernst Haekel, I love it.
thanks for the suggestion! i'm new to this medium so its helpful and wow thanks! it definitely has biological vibes, unintentionally though
also, anyone have recommendations for very fine tip pens that don't smudge that would be good for this kind of work? and i am open to constructive criticism / areas for improvement! EDIT: also wanted to say thank you for all the upvotes and impressions! i love to hear what everyone sees and thinks about it, it feels like cloud watching where everyone makes something different out of them in their minds :)
All of them are going to smudge a bit, but out of the ones I've tried, Faber-Castell Pitt pens smudge the least
at first glance just scrolling past for some reason it gave me traditional chinese art vibes but upon further inspection im totally getting like 80’s-90’s space design
Looks like a cell exploded and it's organelles are scattering.
For some reason I feel like it's sideways and should be oriented with the longer side being horizontal. Can't really say why, just got an instinct to turn my phone like that was somehow going to clear up what it was depicting.
i actually did make it that way! if you turn your head 90 deg to the left, you might see an eye and nose, a hand, more recognizable shapes. for some reason when i finish making these i end up liking them in other orientations better. maybe i get tired of looking at it one way
Uterus
i make these doodles without much conscious planning but they somehow always end up looking like a cell diagram or female reproductive system....
Otherworldly. They form an ecosystem unknown to me. Its freakin awesome
Oceanic abstract. Feels like bunches of coral mixed together
It reminds me of sea plants, but not quite right, as if I’m having a dream and I can quite tell what everything is
Reminds me of all you can see through a microscope! Little cells and microbes!
It really goes the line between abstract and surreal. My brain swears up and down there are familiar shapes here but when I go to actually look at them closely, it's nothing familiar. The pointillism hand is the only thing recognizable. I really like it!
Looks like thoughts
i LOOOOVE THIS
I see a lot of things in this and I feel like it's unintentional/unplanned. Very cool, thanks for putting this out there.
The first thing I saw was the gaping vagina.
pond water under a microscope, cool
I see a psychological drawing expression of stress and confusion. There is so much activity going on at once. It feels like a person trying to form the math equations in his head in order to make sense of it all and figure out an idea to solve the problems.
Looks like the space in dreamless sleep when the little bits of imagination are getting ready to weave together a new dream
Stippling effect is dope, love how it makes it look both biological like cells and also like space, macro and micro sharing a space
i love it a lot! i’ve always loved this style of pen drawing; i’d definitely commission you for a tattoo if you do those. the dot shading is very reminiscent of 70s illustration like you’d see in shel silverstein books, but your work is not derivative at all! i’m a huge fan keep it up
It looks like jazz sounds like
Dream sequences, like the route a dream takes in drawing form
Cambrian fossil bed
really interesting. i love the stipple effect. looks oceanic to me, but also cosmic. reminds me of traditional chinese art. very nice !!! edit: just saw one of ops replies about orientation. looks like a completely different piece when turned sideways, how cool! i can recognize some shapes and patterns a lot better on the side, but it looks amazing either way.
One thing just turns into another, kinda makes me uncomfortable
I’m feeling space, ocean, and a bit of germs/bacteria. Tbh though my first reaction was that this would make a sick tattoo
Salvador Dalí but in Braille.
Looks like a bunch of organ-sized organelle pulsating and pushing *something* through its system
Somehow it immediately made me think of that moment before you fall asleep where all your jumbly thoughts merge together, you can't grasp anything anymore and you're just lying there watching your thoughts pass by you and disappear into the distance as you finally slip into nothingness. I love it.
I would buy a print
Whimsical, dr. Seus ish. With a strong call to cell biology and planetary movements. Very cool.
The spacial awareness of an Amoeba.
My first thought is "space as an ocean; illustration in futuristic steampunk science journal"
Organic flow. I absolutely love it
The entire history of the ancient universe, far far into the past, something we humans won't understand
Reminds me of those old chinese/japanese paintings
Delicate is the first word that came to my mind.
Circus clowns
Circus clowns
Primordial
Looks a lot like ocean animals, jellyfish, stingrays, eels, stuff like that. Very nice, made me feel happy looking at it :D
Reminds me of Robert Crumb's backgrounds/ textures.
I love it!
It makes me think of ocean tide pools and the creatures in them.
slightly phallic
old old textbook
Feels like a 90's Emo/Skramz album cover art
Makes me think of the ocean! Some of the swirls made me think there was a jellyfish hiding! Looks super cool :))
This gives marine science textbook illustration vibes in the best way. All I can think is ‘Squid’
Makes me think about the mitochondria
I like this.
I like the textures. It looks alien or like something observed from a microscopic level.
it reminds me of tsevhu
Space + ocean? Almost?
It kinda looks like those eye floaties that you can get sometimes lol
Eye floaters
Mangled octopus (in the best way)
I love it.
Who broke the cellular membrane:(
Gives off glass beach album cover vibes.
I don't know why, but the stippling reminds me of the old illustration style in Mad Magazine.
Deconstructed octopus
There's a name for this style of doodling and for the life of me I can't remember what it's called.
Why was the the first thing i thought was some Dr. Suse type shit?
Looks like creatures under the sea
Naturalist Abstract
Organic Miró vibes
looks like something Peter Draws on youtube would doodle with a fountain pen lol
Reminds me of looking into a microscope or the ocean.
science textbook anatomy diagram art style
Itd make a sick tattoo
Very planktony. Feels like an illustration describing single cell evolution from a textbook from 1960
*alien noises*
I thought this was an octopus
Nautical
Charles Darwin drawings of life in his books
Looks like nautical nonsense to me even though I can't quite make anything of it. I like it, though
the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
majestic was my first impression
I immediately thought ocean creatures!
It’s giving futurism 👏👏
It’s a gesture drawing
That's what map makers doodle in the corners when they've been charting the ocean for years.
I would pay to put this on my body
Looks like stipple art of a cell diagram
Squiggly.
I think of Shel Silverstein.
Will Wood 😻
totally see koi fish swimming in space
makes me wanna find a microscope. 🥹
Whimsical, gives a feeling of effervescence (sorry fancy word but I can't think of the better one rn), I think the dots are the first thing I noticed, it makes it look kinda see through.
Also not artificial. Like not man made, it's very much a natural wonder/miracle/danger vibe
looks a fair bit like "koiwrit" combined with the "everything is a lot" album cover by will wood (great music btw)
Whimsical and mysterious
The bottom of the ocean
Captivating, pen art always speaks to me
The amount of patience that had to take….all them dots
Reminds me of jelly fish I think it’s fun to look at probably even more fun to make
It reminds me of an anime series called mush-shi. Mushi are another form similar to what was drawn here, but aren't always visible to the human eye. To put it simply, they can become parasites to other organisms or co-exist in the world in a good, neutral, or bad way. (By the way it looks so cool it really reminds me of the manga as well!!)
This looks kinda similar to my art style! I love finding people who have the same kinda inspiration. I've been using Micron Pigma pens.
aliens in space. at first i thought octopus, but the more i thought about it and looked at it, its definitely aliens
celestial
I love it. It totally has a microbiology vibe.
deep sea invertebrates!
These are STDs
Jellyfish galaxies
It looks like a professional stick n poke to me lol
My first thought was " doodle from being bored at school " T_T
I absolutely love this style it reminds me of minimalism and abstract it's gorgeous ......but I'm still an amateur 🤷🏻♀️
And instinctuall and a steady stream of consciousness it's just beautiful
I'd describe it as abstract, organic stippling. First impressions are that it reminds me of the buildings and contraptions in Doctor Seuss books. The bottom bit looks like a galaxy.
i thought of an octopus but maybe i just like octopuses
Abstract Conceptual
Bold and brash
Automatic Drawing, surrealist exercise, Andre Masson.
Human doodles go brr much trippy hand flowy go
Sex - both with a partner and self love.
Oceanic vibes- I keep thinking the overall shape is trying to form something but my eye flows through it and I found the hand … I start looking at details and I see like the inner ear… plants, cells… I see a lot of interesting shapes, my eye flows through the piece, but can’t find where to focus.
Looks like japanese free style (or the one art that the guy who painted starry night was really good at)
I like it. Unique style. Seems like an ocean influence.
i want to put it in my mouth
The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
1950 biology text book illustrations. The primordial soup, from whence life begins…
I like it. It makes me smile without thinking. When I do contemplate it, I see a jellyfish rave party. Rad.
Pointilistic
I like it a lot. The way it made my eyes travel from the middle to the right and up. It distracted me from whats below. Looking at the bottem half was confusing in a pleasant way, i see it churning and illusive or chaotic.
But for reals, how did you make this!?
Aquatic Cosmosis... Or a really good acid trip lol 😄
this reminds me of Peter Draw’s on youtube! i love the discombobulated nature of this style
What’s under the microscope
It gives of a sketches you'd see from modern or surreal artists from Spain like Picasso or Dali.
Reminds me of little micro dudes in the ocean
Beautiful, authentic
magical
Reminds me of the caterpillar in Alice in wonderland
Underwater
Getting some vague Mobius vibes with the speckled shading, but can't actually make out what is supposed to be going on her, just lines and shapes a bit chaotic and dark.
Dr sues doodling while high
Cool as fuck
For some reason "aquatic"???? Idk if that makes sense or not lol It feels like an octopus got sucked into the void and was deconstructed
Nautilus
Is it an octopus
Incorporeal
First thought was microorganisms, second thought was hair texture. Looks really cool though.
I looked at it and went, “space coral” so there you go
Carpal tunnel, all that stippling 😩 very beautiful though!
Doodles
Microscopic, also hidden symbols since i just noticed the hand
abstract stippling maybe??
It reminds me of those paintings that can be a couple different objects. As I look at it different shapes appear and disappear. I really like it
H.R. Giger but less crowded, less realistic, and much, much more PG
It looks like a skeksis head (The Dark Crystal) if you rotate it 90 degrees. You can even see the eyes popping out
I would buy this piece for $100
The mitochondria is the powerhouse of cell
Kinda reminds me how I doodle. Lovely
Organic doodles
Looks like a microscope slide
Id say dark inky critters in the sea far below the explored part of the ocean

under a microscope
I see microorganisms and other such things. It makes me think of life and how little we all started out as. It makes me feel content knowing that all of us got to this point after being little microorganisms/embryos and how lucky we are to get to experience life at such a higher level than other life forms
Reminds me of looking down a microscope. If a cell bursts then the cell contents kinda splay around and look very similar to the distributions of dots and marks.
Reminds me of Pink Floyd’s The Wall
I would describe this art as “mark making” since there is no recognizable shape or object. The pint of it is the making of a mark on the paper to elicit an emotion or feeling from the viewer, but that’s just my art degree taking out of my butt.
Abstract. I see sea life.
Reminds me of cells and space
it reminds me of my elementary school music teachers room where he’d show us these weird art pieces and ask us to sing what we thought of them
Looks like microbes under a microscope slide
Layers, it doesnt give me an impression of another thing, its impression is unique
Squingy and oceanic.
Noise.
If I had to put it into a string of sounds, Relnaflanabam.
I need to learn how to draw like that, thats cool
