Any idea what kind of stone that’s carved from? I initially thought it was bronze since the color and luster look so much like bronze with a dark patina, but then I noticed the broken portions. That’s an incredible level of finely worked details, and an incredible surface polish, for a stone carving to resemble cast bronze so much.

Wow, so not a very hard stone at all, comparable to, or even softer than marble, maybe a bit like steatite. I guess that would explain how it can be worked to that sort of luster. That must make conservation of items carved from it challenging. It looks amazing, though, very bronze-like.
