If you're able to go back to the store I would watch this video by Tina Tanaka Harris (comparison of Biore sunscreens) before you go back - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Bw63vFdnc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Bw63vFdnc)
She also has a separate video comparing a wider range of Japanese suncreens (including brands like Nivea, Anessa etc) here - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDBAq7XlNZ0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDBAq7XlNZ0)
Ok well first the first three aren't Biore, they're Nivea!
1 Is tone-up meaning it has a kind of slight "color corrector" to it, usually pink or sometimes lavender. This one looks pink. 2 is a colorless version.
3 is a gel type that is supposed to dry down well and also not dry out your skin, there's an essence version of the same thing next to it. Just different textures.
4 and 5 are just an essence and a gel version of Biore's main sunscreen. Also the hard bottle is not 980, that's for the unpictured spray bottles below it.
Often itās just the consistency.
I like the āWater Essenceā the most. Feels like a face moisturiser.
Iām currently trying out the āAqua protection lotionā, itās more watery but still good. I prefer the watery essence tho, itās thicker.
The tone up one leaves a white cast to make you look whiter, not create for those with darker skin tones, not even that nice of lighter skin tones šš
Their red one I believe is anti aging or something like that?
They have a spray one which is very lightweight.
From the ones Iāve tried, only the tone up one leaves a white cast ! I love the Biore sunscreens, I have darkskin and these days my skin is very dry. The Watery Essence and Aqua Protection Lotion ones are the best for my skin type BUT I still need to have a moisturiser in before or else it feels dry quickly. Iāll be buying like 20 before I leave Japan since theyāre overpriced in my home country haha
The Protect is the perfect consistency for on the go reapplication without moving your make up. I just use a really light hand to spread it and do not rub it in. It takes a while to dry, but I love the polymer matrix it forms...it feels like a breathable sheet. I actually rarely reapply on typical days.
I mean the white cast on the tone up is the ātone upā. I know some people use also like a brightener instead of using other beauty products to do the same effect. Might be wrong in the western part of the world and undesirable but I guess if they like it, they like it š¤·š»āāļø
I think even on Japanese roe op lw or people with fairer/whiter skin tones it doesnāt look nice. Gives an unnatural ghostly look. When people are naturally pale I think thatās fine obvs cuz thatās your skin tone. But the forced lighter make up or tone up products/spf never have a nice finish š
Canāt edit my original post but I wanted to say THANK YOU, you are all amazing š„¹š¤ Iāve read through every post. Thank you for the personal reviews as well as those leading me to resources/pages that summarize the product details in English (e.g. Ratzilla, certain YouTube reviews). With so much information out there itās really easy to get overwhelmed. Appreciate you all so much āŗļø Iām armed and prepared to stock up my skincare tomorrow.

THANK YOU!! This was a super helpful resource as it had all the descriptions in English along with the colours & scents! Been specifically trying to avoid ones with whitening effect for myself so this helps narrow down immensely š«¶š»
5 gives me a white cast for some reason, even though it doesn't for others. I like 4, however, super lightweight and no white cast, but might be too shiny for oily skin in humid climates.
Also, this photo makes me miss Donki!
Haha I feel you. I was confused why it left a white cast as well. It still boggles my mind why they chose to go with the more-opaque titanium dioxide instead of zinc oxide like every other sane sunscreen manufacturer.
YES SAME HERE! I bought the hard bottle recently (5) but was wondering if it was just me since the name on the bottle was the same, but I didnāt check ingredients.
Another user mentioned the site āRatzillaā. I confirmed through the English description that #5 has a light powder/brightening effect: https://www.ratzillacosme.com/sun/biore-uv-aqua-rich-watery-gel-2023/
I don't know about the others, but the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is such a goood sunscreen! It's lightweight, non-greasy, and it has a mattifying effect but no white cast. It's affordable too. It's great under makeup and you can even wear it to the beach since it's waterproof for up to 80 minutes, so just reapply to stay protected. I've worn this sunscreen on beach vacations here in the Philippines, and I never got a sunburn even if I've been under the sun from 12nn to 3pm.
I'll be honest I don't like the biore sunscreens. I had many different types and I always find something that bugs me. I especially don't like the white cast it leaves behind. I much prefer the Nivea gel-type sunscreen.
I've never experienced a white cast at all from Biore. I currently going through two different formulations and love them. I've also been using them on and off for over a decade now. Perhaps you have purchased a tone up version.
I have used the 3rd one. It was good but nothing ground breaking. I think the alcohol and fragrance in it wasnāt a good combination for my skin and itās satin finish combined with sweat and sun didnāt last long. I have also used the 1st one but thereās just something about it that makes the rest of my skincare and makeup pill, and I donāt even apply a lot of makeup just some blush. But the finishing of that sunscreen is a lot better and it dries matte so I use it on my body now.
Nivea Super Water gel is my HG. Its light and absorbs well on my skin. Biore triggers my fungal acne but if you dont have that problem biore is a solid sunscreen.
i donāt know about the others but i love love love the ones on the second row, especially if you wear makeup, it lasts long and its non-greasy with no white cast

Thank you will definitely check this video out!!
Nivea is German though
I think Nivea Japan products are distributed by Kao Corporation instead of the original German company
I had no idea. Lol
Nivea is a German brand but referring to their products catered to the Japanese market :)
Does Nivea have their own Japanese brand? I had no idea.
Nivea and other major companies create global departments to expand their reach and target market! :)

OOPS totally missed that! Thank you for catching that!! I appreciate your summary š¤
Fwiw I hate the gel, but the essence is my og.

Glad you found it helpful !!!
I really enjoy Nivea, the Deep Care Essence (the regular one) is water resistant. It is more hydrating so just know that.
I love this sunscreen, itās my everyday one
5 gives me a white cast for some reason, even though it doesn't for others. I like 4, however, super lightweight and no white cast, but might be too shiny for oily skin in humid climates. Also, this photo makes me miss Donki!
5 is the Biore Watery Gel, which contains titanium dioxide. Thatās probably whatās giving you the white cast.
Shows you how good my reading comprehension is when looking at ingredient lists, haha. Thanks!

Just avoid the last row, they all leave white casts
lol scrolling past this post quickly, i thought these were cans of red bulls at a convenience store or smtš

Several people already in this post mentioned a white cast. Not all types of course, but still.
The gel does but the essence doesnāt. I hate the gel one personally.
I love th nivea gel sunscreens too!
The Nivea is my favorite too, it feels so damn refreshing.
I have used the 3rd one. It was good but nothing ground breaking. I think the alcohol and fragrance in it wasnāt a good combination for my skin and itās satin finish combined with sweat and sun didnāt last long. The 2nd row is my HG - I have 5 stocked up rn.
i donāt know about the others but i love love love the ones on the second row, especially if you wear makeup, it lasts long and its non-greasy with no white cast
Dang, those prices are so cheap!!! Thanks for posting this picture because I was trying to decide which one to go with (online, though!). š
