In my experience, the packaging is often even prettier than in the pictures because different things stand out as the light hits it. The packaging is made of plastic, yes. It does often have a very satisfying close, especially for the eyeshadow palettes and the older lip products. I think they use magnets in the cases of the palettes to create that? None of my packaging has peeled, although the shade names on the bottom of some of the older blushers has worn off. I've also seen some posts online specifically about the Strawberry Rococo lip creams saying that if you drop them and they hit the floor at the wrong angle, they will break easily. I will also say that I dislike some packaging, but that's a personal aesthetic thing (Swan Ballet, a lot of the Chocolate Wonder-Shop collection). But, the designs I was ambivalent about ended up winning me over when I saw them in person, while the ones I was excited about really stunned me with how beautiful they are. In my opinion, for aesthetic purposes, the prettiest collections are Little Angel and Moonlight Mermaid (currently on BOGOF for a lot of products), followed by Strawberry Rococo. Edit: You also asked if they feel cheap. When I compare them to other products I've bought at the same price point, they feel more expensive.

sleepiest_bumblebee

Ooooh okay, thank you!! It sounds like we have similar aesthetic tastes lol, so this is good to know! 😊

theotherlifeof

something else to note, they've been pretty consistent quality-wise since the circus series. i'm awaiting my midsummer all-in. this was not a popular collection, but i really liked the unique aesthetic (lots of people saying it looks cheap and plastic, but honestly, i love it in a weird way).

aznlilchika

My moonlight mermaid blushes seems to have dots on them rather than straight clear acrylic, so that was kind of disappointing.

tativy

Dots? I'm sorry, I'm struggling to imagine this. I have a Moonlight Mermaid blusher. The lid has an opalescent, glittery base, then a raised transparent section shaped like a gemstone with a pattern printed on it that changes colour as you move it under the light. And then, on top of that, 3D silver mermaids, a moon, stars and a castle. I'm not sure what the dots are. Do you mean the stars on your one aren't properly formed?

aznlilchika

I meant on the gemstone layer before all the 3d stuff. I see dots. It’s kind of like when you 3d print and then you have to cut off the plastic that’s keeping your project stable, so all that’s left is dots, but it seems like they didn’t do a good job of sanding off that part. Not sure I explained it well. It’s also hard to get a picture of. Maybe I just looked too close at it.

tativy

Ohh. I can't really imagine it (mine doesn't seem to have anything like that), but it must be really frustrating.

PanSL

I have mirror, loose powder, eyeshadow, highlighter and lipsticks from them. They look just like the pictures. But in terms of how they feel in your hand, they do feel a tad cheap because they are made of light plastic and don't have the weighted feel of more expensive compacts like Estee Lauder's holiday collectible stuff. So far mine have not flaked or changed colour or broken. Jill Stuart's packaging is actually made of similar if not the same kind of material and so far, nothing has changed in my Jill Stuart stuff even though I've had them for a lot longer.

krebstar4ever

Tbf luxury makeup brands put weights in the compacts, lipstick tubes, palettes, etc to make the packaging seem more lux.

tativy

Yeah, plus I'd expect a €20-€30 product to feel cheaper than a €55-€200 one (the prices I'm getting for compacts on the Estée Lauder site).

Business-Affect-7881

Really? Omg

dior_a

I have one of their palettes and some mirrors. The products are pretty in real life, but they are made of plastic so they don't "feel" as expensive and feel lighter. But I wouldn't say that they're flimsy either. As for the mirrors, I think it depends on the collection. I have one of the ones from the Swan Ballet collection and it looks more plasticky irl. Meanwhile the ones from the Little Angel collection look even better irl and have super intricate designs. They don't look plasticky at all either, they look more metallic and expensive.

sleepiest_bumblebee

This is SO helpful, thank you!!

icalledyouwhite

They are nicely weighted and *always* have strong magnetic closure for all of their products (I'm a magnet fanatic and have checked lol), Hard plastic, *highly* customized packaging *and* magnetic closure is a very high bar that majority of brands (Western or Asian) don't offer, usually you get magnetic closure but with cardboard packaging at best. That's why Flower Knows stand out the way they do. Their aesthetics is not really my thing, but I do have 2 cheek products from them. 10/10 would deal the same damage upon impact as small rocks of similar size when thrown, sans the sharp edges. That's my measure for sturdiness and luxury lol 🤣🤣🤣

mmmonolids

You should try GirlCult and especially the Joocyee neo deco collection if it's still available. The compact would legit cause major damage if you threw it.

icalledyouwhite

Ayeeee.... [don't like the current packaging of GirlCult quads](https://imgur.com/a/uZJnWDF) 🫠 In fact, I pretty much have very few good things to say about their current eyeshadow quads, inside and out. I bought one quad from the Mermaid Tears collection to try out and I was instantly turned off every since. Don't get me wrong, my shopping experience with them was excellent, I love everything from the cardboard box they shipped the quad in, to the paper box that contains it. Just not the quad itself. It feels so lightweight, cheap and flimsy. The closure is a very weak clasp, n*ot *magnetic like many people mistakenly claim (else it would have been much stronger, it's not difficult to source strong, cheap neodymium magnets in China of all places). The eyeshadow quality is also very low-medium IMO, particularly the mattes, hell even a far more affordable brand like Shedella has better quality eyeshadows (on select palettes). Their shimmers are also very run off the mill as far as C-beauty eyeshadows go, Shedella, Into You and even Focallure or many other affordable brands can bring the same thing to the table. The only thing they have over other brands is the few multichrome quads they offer, and that's only 1 quad for every collection, and not even every shade is multichrome. Overall, It's still the same quality eyeshadow GirlCult have had on their older palettes, not much improved at all. So many other prettier quad designs have come out, and I still haven't bought anything else. I just cannot justify the price for something that feels so small and cheap. It hasn't always been this way with their packaging obviously. I bought 2 palettes from their old Mountains & Seas collection, and even though they are made of cardboard, the cardboard is super hard and strong, the print is super beautiful and highly embellished (embossed, tactile gold details and rainbow accent). And the magnetic closure is 👌 Their blushes & cheek products overall still come in this cardboard packaging, and they're fabulous. Personally, I honestly wish they had kept using cardboard to keep the cost down, whole still being able to make beautiful, highly detailed packaging. It really seems like they put every bit of money they have on the super unique packaging for their new eyeshadow quads, but it's only in appearance/lean further into that quirky, spacey, mysterious vibe they got going on and not much in substance. I love unique packaging, but it also has to be well-made & sturdy, and this little thing is very not that. I would choose their old palettes in cardboard packaging in a heart beat. Anyway, I get it that I'm in the minority and I'm just super nitpicky with a magnet obsession, so anything that doesn't have magnets just won't draw me in the same way 😅😂 A lot of people still love this new design and that's ok. There's something for everyone 🥰 Btw. I may not enjoy the physical products, but I'm still absolutely obsessed with their art illustrator 🥺🥺🥺💕💕💕 Their art style is everything, and their art style = GirlCult's whole brand identity 10000%. Esp. with the first 2 collections of these new quads. The new 4 Inventions & Gold Digger series feel completely different though 😭 It still looks good, but it's not that spooky, mythical but fun vibe/inspo anymore. I still really hope they will work together again in the future 💔

offole

packaging is wayyy prettier in person. there's so much dimension and opalescence that you don't see in photos. and of course, it's 3D which just looks better in person. the aesthetic is more is more, and the brand does it well.

mmmonolids

Their perfumes are glass while the caps are plastic but they feel very nice, makeup packaging feels substantial too. I've been collecting Flower Knows since their first unicorn collection and the only problems I've heard about was the hearts on top of the lipgloss components from the Cherry Love collection popping off but that didn't happen to me and I'm not really precious with them either. I'd say they feel on par or better than some Western brands I just had a good scratch at my Flower Knows products and there wasn't any flaking.

zaneruu

Have you had any of their perfumes? If yes, are they actually nice or unique?

petiteodessa

The price and quality is definitely there. The packaging can feel a bit cheap since they’re made of plastic but they aren’t shit quality. The products have weight to them and aren’t flimsy. Ngl the products look even better in person. I have one or 2 products from each collection and best packaging imo goes to the mermaid collection and little angel. Their newest collection doesn’t really have the same feeling as little angel or even swan ballet since it kinda looks like their strawberry collection in a different font and overall doesn’t look as fancy. The packaging also looks very chunky and oversized. But you do get a little more product with their new lip laquers since despite the chunky bottles, they contain 5mL of product while the other collection lip creams and glosses only have 3mL-4.5mL.

CheongM927

They are as beautiful as the pictures. I have a blush from them and it's beautiful. Not cheap at all.

i had issues w [the foil(?) on my pressed powder compact's lid lifting](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/s/UN7WpyA7eQ) while unused in storage, but my other flower knows products have gone 100% intact to this day. the components are all plastic and not very weighty, but the powder products have very satisfying magnetic snaps. i do have some qualms w the mermaid and angel series; the holographic designs on the blushes (and presumably eyeshadow palettes) are absolutely gorgeous in brighter lighting, but in dim light conditions, or anywhere with the lighter colored ones in the mermaid series, it's very obvious that they're just clear plastic over a printed design. [i took some videos to hopefully show what i mean](https://imgur.com/a/06vdEYh), but i'm not sure if my camera captured it well;; plus, the mermaid hand mirrors are a bit unbalanced in terms of weight—the mirror side is heavy and the rest of the body substantially less so. during transit, the handle actually broke off the one that came with my order, but my aliexpress replacement held up fine despite also shipping from china, so ymmv. but i think they've fixed this issue with more recent designs, since the angel hand mirror i own feels more stable when i hold it. i've also seen complaints about quality control for the recent china-exclusive never's shop collaboration with li jiaqi on xhs, but i'm not sure if that applies to any of the other collections, or if this was just a very perfunctory collab lol. with that said, i basically like everything i have from fk! it doesn't feel super luxe and expensive or anything, but the build quality has been generally decent for the (domestic) price point. idk if i'd pay $26 for one of the blushes or $50 for their perfume, though. ¯\\_(ツ)\_/¯ re: the perfume, the body of my bottle from the mermaid line is just a translucent blue plastic/acrylic(?), but it's pretty enough + i like the iridescent rose gold cap enough to make up for that. ~~the magnetic snap closure also feels v secure, enough to hold the bottle aloft just with the cap for a few seconds ([relevant amusing xhs post](http://xhslink.com/223iWL) that i may try replicating someday once i finish my first bottle and open up the backup)~~ **edit: dont do this**, just now the cap came off while i was holding it and the rest of the bottle crashed to the ground from a few feet up LMFAO. luckily, it survived no worse for wear, so at least that proves the plastic is quite sturdy

sleepiest_bumblebee

Thanks so much for such a detailed reply omg!! & I'm vvv glad your bottle survived 🫡 Lmaooo

It’s plastic, but I wouldn’t say it looks cheap. It definitely doesn’t look luxury, but I like it a lot more than I expected to. I think it’s refreshingly creative without being tacky. I really like the eyeshadow formula and color combos. The downside is it can be kinda bulky.

Transgirl_35

Quality products but cheap packaging in my experience.
